the upgrade is the best thing. since you can go in tell lcd screen what you want. also mph km also let set the thing to read what tire your using too. its life saver for people want to know how fast they are going and how many miles you done or to see how far from your place it its.

Hi, Chris. Thanks for sharing. I liked, I subscribed. I can't imagine riding my Mini without a speedometer and watt meter. Takes away half the fun!

@@PedalWithPower How could I forget to mention the odometer? How is one to brag to one's spouse and friends??? Oh, and if you have a sec, you might want to be the first real subscriber to my own brand new bike channel. 😁 Cheers.

I had a bit of a windfall so I decided to blow some of it on the LCD Display Upgrade for my RadExpand 5. I didn't like the orange LEDs on the stock display. They are too bright (to see the labels on the panel) and I always had to think twice about which row was battery reserve, and which was PAS level. And they remind me too much of dashboard trouble lights.
I wanted the odometer so that I could plan regular maintenance, or at least record when I last did some.
With the speedometer, I can now leave my phone on the geo-tracking app (and plugged into the USB power port) and not depend on it as a speedometer. Oh - it just occurred to me that my bike can now serve as an emergency phone charging station during extended power blackouts, which are mostly in the winter anyway.
The wattmeter is just a nice extra.
I regard zip-ties as "stress risers", so I cut them off and used some 20 mm diameter spiral cable wrap to organize all the cables in front of the handlebars and down.
I also bought a pair of RAD folding pedals (the same as on the RadMini) because we will be stuffing it and the RadMini into the back of our CRV. They are a bit smaller than the non-folding stock pedals, but are made of metal instead of plastic.

To make it neater, I would have run both wires below the straight bar instead of over it. Good description of the different functions. Thanks!

I just bought a new rad expand bike. I fell the first time I drove it. Do you have a simple video of how this bike works. I am now intimidated a little bit. Your guidance would be very helpful, I have ridden bikes and motorcycles all my life but not together. So know I am not totally clear on how this works. Hello from Ladysmith BC

As of now, the upgrade Display for the RadExpand 5 is Out of Stock in both Canada and the US. I'm pretty sure that they are branded King displays. Is there an aftermarket display that will do? I can't find specs for the upgrade screen to be able to check with King suppliers. Not sure where to look now. Any advice?

Hi Chris, informative video, I got the upgrade, and it is great. Question I have is what is the max. wattage output you have seen on your display? Mine has a hard time getting to 500W and falls bat to about 470w fairly quickly.

Hey Chris, finally got my Expand yesterday, love it! The bike shop added my display and I think it was defaulted to 20 in tires. Do you recommend changing to 22? I also notice a lot of reviewers got the "other" brakes, I got the Tektro with the integrated bell, it looks like you got that also. Wonder if that was just a first run item substitute.
Anyway, thanks for all of the videos on the bike, it made my wait less excruciating. Excited to learn more tricks from you.

    • @PedalWithPower
      @PedalWithPower  Před 2 lety

That's awesome! I'm excited for you. It's a great bike, good call on the display. Tire pressure depends more on your rider weight. I'm pretty big and have the Tannus liners installed, so I put them around 22. 20 works too.
Just know, all bike tires will lose air over time so 22 will be 20 in a couple weeks. Always good to check your tire pressure regularly. Lower pressure will give better traction and a more comfortable ride, but be a little slower because of the resistance.
Let me know if there is anything specific you'd like me to cover. I'm always open to ideas 👍

Thanks for the video! I was planning on getting the Rad Mini step-through for my wife, but it was discontinued the same week we tried to buy one. Looks like I'll have to get the Expand and upgrade it. I wonder if the front suspension fork from the Mini would fit this?
