    Hey there, Donnie. Thank you so much for this video and information - liked and subscribed! You just made me safer on my RadCity Step-Thru 3 because I ride along a tight, windy, narrow road where 20 MPH max. makes me have to ride along the far-right edge of the road so that cars can pass me. But, now that I can ride that section at 25 MPH, I’d be riding at about the same speed that cars drive on it and can more safely ride in the middle of this single lane road. My wife and I thank you! Cheers, and safe riding all around to you and your family!

    i've had my radrover for almost a year now, and really like it a lot. i'm working from home now, but i use it more for exercise, so i use minimal pedal assist - only that which is needed to get up hard hills, etc, that i couldn't manage otherwise, cuz i'm an old man. i did do a flank speed run one time to the credit union before they closed after work, and made it. so it will do all of this, i just seldom do that. my average speed is around 18 mph, and i get a decent workout from that.

    Thanks for the LCD hacking tip, it is much easier than I thought. At 24mph though, I feel like I/ my kid would need to be bubble-wrapped in case of sudden break and fall (the what if approach), it is just soooo fast. As a new ebike owner, I feel safest at 14mph :)

    I'm a healthy 83 year old, and bought a 2019 Rad Rover over a year ago. I've never had my bike up to its top speed, and in fact have never ridden it on pavement. I've never had any problems with the bike and have ridden it on the sand trails in the remote section of the Southern California Mojave Desert where I live. E bikes are great because of their quiet mode of transportation and in the fact that the government institutions have not slapped the need for them to be registered and licensed, nor for the riders to be licensed. For the price, I think the Rad Company in Seattle, puts out the best product line of electric bikes...

    So is the wheel size setting the rim size or the actual wheel with tire diameter? My Rad Mini originally came with 4” tires and they worked their way down to 3” over the yrs, I don’t know how much of the profile decreased however? I might add though my mileage is off and reads a little over 10% further than other popular EB’s.

    Since I posted this video some have questioned why I set the wheel size to 28". I also stated in the video that 28" is the correct size for this bike. I'm aware that the RadRover has 26" x 4" tires (mine has Kenda Juggernaut 26"x4" tires).
    There are 2 reasons I set the wheel size in my controller to 28".
    (1) That is the way it was set up when I received it from Rad Power Bikes, and
    (2) That is the setting that gives me the most accurate speed and mileage readings when compared to GPS.
    The point of this portion of the video is that you can program your tire size or any of the other settings on your RadRover and this is how to do it. I hope the video was helpful to you in some way and thanks for watching.

    • @TheJcdm327
      @TheJcdm327 Před 3 lety

      I saw your other video to explain the speed setting...thanks. However I also experimented by changingg the wheel size to 14" ..... The bike computer doesn't really know except for what you tell it. So during my one and only short test, I used a GPS on my phone. I got a ground speed of 27 mph while the screen said 23 mph. Of course if I left the settings that way my odometer and speedometer would not be accurate, so I returned the wheel size to factory 26".

    • @backyard3749
      @backyard3749 Před 3 lety

      I just got my RR5 and it was set to 26. I don't know why yours would have been at 28 when received? Mistake? If a GPS indicates actual/correct mileage and speed that is different from the RR5, that means ALL RR5s are inaccurate out of the box.
      The way to check this is to do a measured mile somewhere because either the bike or the GPS is consistently incorrect. In any case, more testing needed!

    Try changing the wheel size setting down to a smaller size. The speedometer will under read your speed and should let the bike go faster. You will need an alternate speedometer (or just use you phone’s GPS) to actually measure your correct speed and to get an accurate top speed.

      Thanks for watching! You can read the warranty info if you download the radrover manual from the rad power bikes website. It references warranty exclusions for non-standard equipment, parts or modifications. Not sure if that would be considered a modification but I don't think they would have any way to know since warranty claims don't typically involve sending the bike back to them. For me, I modify everything that rolls into my garage so I don't worry too much about warranties. Go ahead and get your order in, you'll love it.

      There is a white wire that you can cut to get more speed without the lcd

    Thx for posting this. Is there any way to change settings to go over 25 mph?

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie

      Not that I know of. The 40 kph (25 mph) is the highest setting. The motor and battery aren't capable of much more anyway. Thanks for watching!

    What happens if you set it to a 14 inch wheel but actually have a 28 ? Is the top speed still 40km or would it be 80km?

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie
      @DirtBikingwithDonnie  Před 4 lety +1

      I tried that in my previous video and found that it does trick the computer to keep providing power beyond 25 mph, but it runs out of power. I could only get to 27mph that way. Thanks for watching!

    Turn wheel size all the way down to go even faster. Smaller circumference means it thinks your going slower than you really are.

      @gregorsamsomeone1184 Před 3 lety +1

      @@cameronseelye5787 It would if the motor is currently cutting out while you're bombing down hills. Radrovers probably arn't designed to ever be able to surpass max legal limit on level ground if the engineer was being practical though. Plus you'd have to do subtract ur mileage b4 the adjustment and then divide to get your real mileage after the change. I have a Chinese 1500W that came with 250W & 500W stickers to trick inspectors if I wanted lol. I set my governor to 99MPH which basically turns it off. I've done 41 going down a hill but it usually cruises flats around 27ish. I'd say dropping wheel size is something I'd do only on bikes capped this low. If you want a fast bike don't buy something designed to be a rental bike that conforms to every possible ebike law to maximize where it can be sold. They seem really well built and I'm sure spare parts are way easier to find than my ricesr but if you want speed get a mid drive >1000W.
      PS with all the $ I spent replacing parts get a high end US made bike. The miles add up a lot faster than you'd ever expect with these things, and it's the only thing between you and an asphalt belt-sander.

    The mistake lot of people make is they think faster = more fun . That’s not true at all . In neighborhood , I would set the speed to like 16 mph max . That way u can full throttle and cruise . If u set the speed to max which is 25 , now u have to constantly adjust throttle to keep the bike from goin to fast , have to break all the time . Sucks . One thing I wish rad bike had was engine breaking . When goin down a slope . The bike just goes way to fast . I have to hold the hand breaks non stop which wears on the breaks . I try to avoid down hills as much as possible
