The North Crimean Canal is around the Krinki area. You can see it on a map.
The Canal supplied 85-90% of freshwater to the Crimean peninsula.
When Russia took control of Crimea in 2014, Ukraine responded by blocking the Canal for 8 years (2014-2022).
The North Crimean Canal was unblocked within the first couple of days of the current conflict in February 2022 and water supply was restored to Crimea. You can find articles about that.
The Ukrainian strategy is to starve Crimea of water to force Russia to capitulate and leave the peninsula. That means Russia would give up its warm water port in Sevastopol, in addition to fertile farmland when water is supplied.
So the Krinki area connects the waterway to the North Crimean Canal, and its of vital strategic importance to both sides.
I dont believe that is true. The mouth of the canal was above the dam that was destroyed. When the water level fell behind the dam the water supply was cut off. The water in the river at Krinki is tidal and therefore salt contaminated. Why would anyone source a freshwater cabal at Krinki?

@@quinnard9750 Assume it's 3,000 who were KIA there (I don't know the actual number). If I am correct about the importance to both sides, 30,000 can be KIA there, and it doesn't change the reason for either side being there.
For Ukraine:
Get Russia out of Crimea, control the industry and population, and tax the businesses and people accordingly
For Russia:
Retain the warm water Black Sea port of Sevastopol, and retain the ability to supply water to agriculture and citizens

Why U have so many channels
That large patch of land assumed to be under Russian control puts Ukraine's own peoples to question about knowing their own land if it is Ukraine lead leadership.
Otherwise those are the kind of land mark mistakes a foreign commander would make over a land that they do not know personally of a people they command.
Hundreds of thousands of the soldiers fighting with Russia are Ukrainian born. Including high level officers. They know the land better than ukrianians coming from Lwow or Kiev.
What does the blue shaded land mean?
Blue shaded areas are areas controlled by the Ukrainian army.
There's no such thing as too much progress, just as there's no such thing as too much money or too much firepower.
It seems that whatever Ukraine is taking at this point, is only a temporary hold that has to be given up as Russia presses on.

Russian forces quickly adapted and became the most battled hardened army in the world. Now they have experience in fighting with NATO weapons, surveillance, and tactics, I feel sad for Ukrainian citizens as they are just fighting someone else's war. Negotiate now and end this bloodbath. I simply don't understand what kind of leader Zelensky is.
