It’s estimated that there have been more than 400 pets who have called the White House home, even though it wasn’t called the White House until Teddy Roosevelt began calling it that, but you know what I meant.
Guess what? There’s a Presidential Pet Museum in Annapolis, Maryland. Unfortunately, it’s closed right now for renovations, but once it’s back open you should definitely check it out.
Oh geez. He pooped on my rug.
A shout out to Zachary F. Parker, one of my Patreon supporters who suggested this video topic. He donates to me on Patreon, which is why I made the video. Thanks Zachary! So which President had the coolest pets? What kind of pet should President Trump get for the White House? Let me know in the comments below. I vote ferret, by the way. Thanks for watching!

@OUTLAW NEVADA Dude. No offense to you at all, but a lot of what you just said was wrong.
Grant wasn't a drunkard. In fact, many political opponents tried to spread that rumor to make him seem bad (www.quora.com/What-was-Ulysses-S-Grant-like-in-real-life ,or you could do some further reading if you'd like). From what I've read, he was actually a nice person. He made large efforts to better life for African Americans during the Reconstruction.
(Side note- many historians actually say he was a skilled general, so your comment on that confuses me)
However, it's not fair to say he should be hung- I don't believe he, nor anyone like him, was deserving of such a terrible fate like that solely because of his army-leading and presidential capabilities, especially with his *straight up abusive childhood and lack of self-worth in life.* He ended up dying of throat cancer anyway.

One of my favorite stories about the President's pets is how JFK's dog, Charlie, had a “romance” with Pushinka, which is a direct descendant of Strelka, one of the first living beings that successfully completed an orbital flight, making it back alive, alongside Belka and other animals. Pushinka was a gift from Nikita Khrushchev to JFK back then.

I think people probably take better care of their pets these days, or at least think of their pets as more of a commitment than they did in the past. Like with cats, yeah people in the past enjoyed their company, but they were also largely seen as live-in exterminators who would come and go as they pleased. Whereas nowadays people mostly keep their cats inside and rarely have use for their hunting skills. Also, there's a book about Lincoln's dog called "Abe & Fido" and IIRC, Fido had also been a stray who, even after being adopted by the Lincolns, mostly lived outside and was actually left in Illinois when the family moved to DC.

Honestly, you could've done one full video explaining all about Theodore Roosevelt's pets :)

Hey Mr. Beat, I never thought that the U.S. presidents had so much pets. I only knew about Barack Obama's dogs.

It's pretty crazy, but then again, they had all the people they needed to help take care of them.

Checkers is absolutely famous and i knew about Bill CLinton's cat "Socks".
And that the first 10 or 12 presidents WOULD have had at least Horses (and probably hunting Dogs) was a pretty safe bet as that was what gentlemen of their stand and wealth were expected to have.

The only presidential pet I’ve ever known about before this video was Ford’s golden retriever Liberty. Mostly just because I really like Gerald Ford.
(Edit:) Oh and Grits. I didn’t even think of it until Carter showed up in the video, but I remember knowing about Grits.
