    It is borderline criminal 327 Fed Magnum isn’t more popular. You’re right it is noticeably more blast, but it’s a defensive round. However, you can shoot more prevalent 32 H&R mag and 32 SW long for cheaper, quieter, and have less blast/recoil for practice and plinking in the same revolver. You can also shoot 32 SW short in the gun as well.

    327 Fed Mag also chambers 32 H&R, 32 S&W Long, 32 S&W Short and even 32 ACP since it’s a semi-rimmed case!

    • @danielboggan2479

    It provides a good measure of power without being quite as snappy as a .357 would be, and my sense of it is that as a "get off me" gun, the difference wouldn't matter.

      I love the idea of the Taurus 327, especially the optic ready one... But they're kinda heavy for a J frame sized revolver, around 6 oz heavier than an LCR.
      I don't mind the weight as much on a 3 or 4 incher like the SP101, I feel like that's more of a range or woods gun.

    • @CyborgZeta
      @CyborgZeta Před měsícem +1

      @@TheOfficialCaseMade I consider the extra weight of the Taurus 327 in my pocket an acceptable tradeoff for the ability to comfortably shoot .327. Yeah, I prefer to shoot .32 Long and .32 H&R, and carry the latter; but I can at least manage shooting .327 in the Taurus, if I wanted to carry it loaded with .327.
      By contrast, there is no way I would shoot .327 out of a lightweight snub like the LCR.

      2008, the year it was released was the WORST possible time to release a new cartridge in my lifetime. The economy collapsed, so people weren’t buying new guns, and definitely not new guns in exotic chamberings.

    I have the SP101 and the Taurus 327, both in .327 Federal Magnum. My SP101 came pretty "gritty" from the factory, so I ended up doing an MCarbo springs & shims upgrade, which made a night and day difference... DA pull is now very smooth and around 8.5 lbs, while SA is significantly under 4 lbs. I really like the ability to carry six rounds of "nearly' 357 mag performance in such a tiny package. I also did a Galloway hammer spring & trigger return spring swap on that Taurus 327, and it too is a fantastic little shooter! I only wish that S&W's "327" offering was rated for 327 Federal Magnum, rather than the less powerful 32 H&R Magnum!

    I purchased a Ruger SP101 327 Federal with the 4.2 inch barrel a few years ago. Love the gun. Solid revolver that’s versatile and packs a punch. The main reason I opted for the 327 over the 357 was the extra round gives you 20% more firepower. The 327 round is a great defensive round but too expensive to use for the range. I have found that the .32 short and .32 long are difficult to find and when you do the price is also high. In short I love the gun, love the ammo, just hate the availability and cost of ammo.

      I can also make my own 32 mag +p and the revolver handles it all.

    I think the .327 has great potential as a field cartridge, generally loaded down a bit to .32/20 speeds for small game with the hot ones in reserve, but no one seems to do that much anymore, and the .22 mag is excellent in that role as well with the right loads. A longer barrel would be nice for field carry, and might tone down the blast a bit. The blast is also a common complaint about the .30 Super Carry, the latest attempt to gin up a hot .32 defense round.

    I got a Bond arms chambered in 327. Ammo for 327 is pretty much unavailable on shelves. But I have bought 32 short, 32 long, and 32 h&r mag from various gun stores. 327 you gotta pretty much order online. But the ammo I really want isn't available. That being the HST federals and the Speer Gold dots. However double tap makes great ammo for it that I have great results with, and presumably buffalo bore too. I have great results with Buffalo bore but I haven't shot it in 327

I have a Ruger LCR 38 special. Maybe I’ll get another LCR in 327 and get the SP101 in 38 special. Something to think about. What’s the best way to close a cylinder on a revolver? I had someone tell me; never, by the cylinder. Always by the crane.

    Picked up one years ago. With .327 FM you are not going to be out-gunned. And, with S&W .32 or even .32 Mag it's something my wife can handle if needed. I wish Federal would do more .327 ammo runs to help availability and hopefully price gouging (which has gotten me into re-loading).

    As a proper member of the WWII generation, Hickok prefers a J-frame. But for the blast noise of the 327 and size of that Ruger I think I'd prefer a Glock 32 on my belt. Never thought I'd describe a 357 as being quieter but it is in this case.
