Somebody informed me that some of the gunwriters and such are referring to this new blued Python as the "2024 Python." I could not confirm that anywhere on the Colt site.
Surely, every finish on the same firearm is not going to get a new model name???? How weird would THAT be. Sorry if I'm not in sync with the rest of the world, but to ME it will always be a "2020 Python" with a Blue finish. If they offer it with Cerekote finishes or in nickel finish, it will still be a "2020 Python" with a different finish. Now if they change the design of the action or something, that's a different story.
Interestingly they restarted the serial number range. All the stainless guns start with PY and then count up. The blue one is PB and counting up again from 1.
The fact it has a different serial number range suggests further that Colt is treating it like a different model (although I admit to a lack of expertise and don’t know how they numbered the original stainless guns as compared to the original blued guns-did they have a separate serial number sequence also?)
It's a Python!! Doesn't make a difference what year it was made to substantiate it name!!
The new blue pythons are $100 (US) higher than the Stainless Steel models. $1,599 for blue and $1,499 for stainless. I am a Colt dealer. I sold the grips to Hickok45 as shown in the video.
@@user-yg3vj1gn4z does the blued gun come in a 3 or 2/3-4 " barrel?
Nice that Colt (CZ owned) had decided to make the new Python not just in stainless steel, but now in blued carbon steel. Stainless makes for a firearm that requires less anti-corrosion maintenance, but there is something special about a well polished and deeply blued firearm.
CZ does not own Colt, CZ and Colt is both own by a investment company that run them independently. CZ has no say over Colt and vice versa.
I hope that is true!@@norseman5041
The Colt Python was something none of us could afford, even back in the ‘70s.
It is amazing how cheap guns are nowadays.
I saw a 4" one in a pawn shop in Anchorage AK back in the 80’s for less than $300. It was beautiful. I still could kick myself for passing on it. Even if it was broken, it would have been worth it as time passed.
Yes Sir I know what you are saying. In 1970 I was bringing home after taxes $42. And a little change. That was driving a truck
Yeah, for the most part, Colt has never made guns for average people.
It's too bad
The Rolls Royce of double action 357 revolvers. Just stunning! Unfortunately back in the day only affordable to those who could afford to drive Rolls Royces. Lol!!!
I am glad they have brought them back. Maybe not a 100% capture of the past, but All forged steel, with improved durability, no unsightly hole, no barrel sleeve, and still a work of art. I hope to collect all the snakes they come out with. Thanks for the video.
The internal parts are MIM, not forged.
Modern mim fitted parts are better parts. The old python design was bad
@@logangodofcandy , agreed. Colt allegedly has the best quality MIM parts, hardened all the way.
I have two vintage Pythons. I think Colt should have copied the new Python exactly like old one the with new internals-four inch barrel, old style grips, trigger.... But it is a nice gun less the old school swagger.
@@scottweisz and there he was, not a day wasted without making some lame comment.
Just bought one. 5” stainless. Beautiful firearm. Life’s too short not to enjoy some of the finer things in it. Thanks HK45!
Man, I have dreamed of owning a Colt Python since I was just a little kid. It was the revolver that initially got me interested in firearms. I was thrilled when I heard there would be a new production line of them in 2020 but man, the price was just a bit above what I could easily do and then they were gone so fast I didn't realized I had blinked. I love the blued version, it looks great.
God bless you sir - love your channel. Having a matching pair of .357's is always a good thing!
I pick up mine tomorrow!
He hit the nail on the head. The original python was made on 50s tooling, had hours of hand fitting by trained and expensive humans. If you want such a gun today- ok fine. expect $5k and a long wait list. See the MR73 for reference. Todays machining is and production methods are to the point that we can get 95% of there for $1500. All new products have teething trouble. My python is from 2022- zero issues. I have the feeling the people who dog the new guns are old farts who want a 1975 python at less than $1k and "it aint like it was blah blah". As an older fart myself, there is nothing I hate more than people who complain that "it isn't what it used to be"...well not all things can be or are necessarily worse.
1968, 6” python owner here -
Single Action second to none ☺️😎
1971 6” blued Python owner here -
Single Action second to none - CONFIRMED 🤣
Babe wake up Hickok45 just posted!
😂
I'm up
These guns shine in double action as they come stock. The 2020 pythons have a small ridge on the sear that was built in to make them drop safe. If you watch really closely when pulling in single action, the hammer actually moves a little bit backwards before being released.
A 4" Blued Python is the prettiest handgun ever IMNSHO. Love me some Magnum Force.
I have been seeing many people unhappy with the rear sight. For a $1,500 firearm , brand new, you shouldn't have to seek out an aftermarket sight. Colt, get with the program.
You don't need an aftermarket sight, you can loctite down the factory one.
Optimal, no, but doesn't take much effort to keep it from drifting. Considering I go over every screw on every firearm I buy anyway (as should everybody,) I don't consider it a very big deal.
@@stevem4783on mine, the whole site rocks in the mortise. It would need to be shimmed.
I agree, I ended up with Wilson combat sights but the oem are rubbish. Shouldn't have to loctite adjustable sights unless you only shoot 1 load ever. No excuses at 1500 dollars.
The Wilson Combat ones are what the factory sights should be.
All of these people unhappy must not own a 70’s or 80ms model. The sights have always been terrible. Breaking off or falling out.
phew im so glad they did NOT go with the 4 vent holes on the rib like I saw in the SHOT show coverage of the new blued python. looked like a taurus with the extra vent. colt python = 2 vents for 4 inch and 3 for 6 inch
They sort of did - the 4.25" barrel models have three vents now instead of the proper two. Only the blued models have the three vents. It looks crowded and more like a Taurus than a Python, especially since the stainless 4.25" models retain the correct 2-vent look.
@@FCV0511 oh thats what it was, the 3 vents on the 4.25 inch looked awful.
@@JaredAF Apparently they've caught so much backlash over it rumor is they're going to make the proper change.
Which, in time, will make the 4.25s with 3 vent ribs big time collector pieces.
@@stevem4783 Is there a source on this? I'm gonna hold off on settling for a 6" model if there'll be a 4.25" model on the horizon with the proper two-vent setup.
@@FCV0511 nothing official, hence why I said rumor. But I personally think it has legs, you're hearing a lot of grumbling about it.
Funny, I "settled" for a stainless 4.25" when I really wanted the 6" because I found a great deal. And I prefer stainless over blued 100%. Everyone's preferences are so wildly different even on the same platform.
“I’m a Smith guy. I’m a Colt guy. I’m a Ruger guy.” Ok, really, he’s a REVOLVER GUY. I see a blued Python in my future.
I remember looking at the Colt Python in 1982 $350 brand new in a sporting good store in my small town when I was making $3.35 an hour, minimum wage ,that’s like $2000 in today’s times ,I couldn’t afford it back then , then colt went out of business later on and changed hands more than once and quality was all over the board . But the 80”s was Really Great Quality Firearms 😀
Wow Hickok45 that is a nice new blued colt python you got there I can’t believe the colt company made a new blued colt python this video is awesome you did wonderful.👍
I have a 4 inch 2020. Why can't Colt put a functional rear sight on a $1600 revolver?
They can. They don't want to and you can't make them
Colt screwed up the machining, Wilson Combat jumped and came out with a proper rear site that fits perfectly. I got on and it’s solid. But one expensive piece of metal.
Yeah I put Wilson on mine, they should be stock.
Had a vintage 6” years ago, just ordered a 5” in stainless. Really looking forward to having the new model, thanks hickoc !
Always love watching your videos. Seems like I learn something new in every one of them. Watching from a little town called New Castle, Indiana
I hoped Colt would be able to bring back the blued Pythons. I'm thrilled at the result - they look fantastic compared to the originals, and their timing should hold up better over time. My only big complaint is that they added an additional vent on top of the barrel on the 4.25" model. It makes the gun look too crowded and more like an older Taurus than an actual Python. Not sure what Colt was thinking when they changed a highly anticipated legacy design randomly, especially since the 4.25" stainless models retain the standard 2-vent setup and look great.
Deer Hollow makes excellent reproduction grips that are closer to the originals, thicker, and better looking than the laminate ones that come on the new guns too IMO. And hey, at least that silly QR code is better than the ugly S&W internal lock and the J/K frame reshape that came with it! And as always, thanks for the excellent wheelgun content.
Rumor is they have received sumo much backlash, they’ll be putting the tow ribs back on the 4 in model. If that’s true then the ones with the 3 ribs might be collectors items in the future.
The extra vent hole is on the limited run of 5" guns. The 4.25" models only have 2. At least that's the way it is on the stainless model.
edit: I just looked up a blued 4.25" and yep, 3 vent holes. I don't like it either! Why wouldn't they stick with the same machining they do on the stainless???
@@notdave2993 I hope they revert back to the two ribs on the 4.25". More power to those who want to collect the three.
@@toddschutter6535 On the stainless models, yes. But the only barrel lengths presently announced for the new blued models are 6" and 4.25". The 6" has the proper 3-vent setup, but they added a vent to make three on the 4.25", which usually only had two. The stainless guns still have the proper setup, which makes it even more strange that Colt would change things for the blued ones.
Edit: Just saw your edit. I agree - it's a disagreeable decision at best, and I'm not a fan since it crowds the top of the gun on the 4.25" models.
Yeah, the 5" is great with three vents. The 4.2" not so much
I’ve got a blued Dan Wesson 15-2 and I hesitate to pull it out of the safe just due to its collectibility but I absolutely love the look of it. Might have to pick up a blued Python just so I have a nice ranch revolver to carry around.
Gorgeous revolvers, beautiful craftsmanship.
I can't go to the range with my python anymore. Everytime I start to take it out they tell me to put my pants back on.
Finest revolver ever made!!!! The new blued one is pretty, but definitely lacks the deep, wet luster of the originals……give it some time and I bet Colt will be offering a “deluxe” polished one for WAY more than it should cost!
I gotta say, I’m really liking the new thumbnails. Simple, yet effective
The grips you bought for the old one are great.
Regarding the rear sight looseness I was under the impression that when the stainless 5 inch was released that Colt had addressed that with a tighter spec’d one. 🤷♂️ Surprised to learn that your new blue version was a bit loose.
Thanks for another entertaining and informative video.
They both do the lead toss! 🤠
I have a 1974 6" .357 Trooper Mk III. Looks very similar, minus about $1000 😂
It's about time they brought out a blued version The finish on the new one is pretty nice but it's definitely not the same as that original gun, not bad but different. Guess I'll have to start saving for one.
I laughed out loud at the Kentucky joke because it hits home so hard. I too have family in Kentucky. Been watching your videos since I started my love for guns in September of 2022. I now have a Colt Python. Always enjoy your videos Hickok! Keep it up!
I have a 4.25 stainless and I love mine..fit and finish is great, I'm a smith man as well but the colt has a great feel and, for me, shoots great 👍
Watching from NW Illinois, where I go to Iowa to purchase ammo
Love this channel!
Oh shit hiccok 45 still postin vids💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Right off the bat, the orange sight and the missing “hump” that prevents the cylinder from sliding out of the gun on the left hand side of the frame gave away the new one.
I handled a new SS Python last week and found the trigger pull to be smooth, but a bit heavier or longer than the smaller King Cobra. The latter had a slow, springy reset.
Hello Hickok45.
Very nice, new blued Python revolver.
Cool gun. 👍🏼
I really like classic weapons
Awesome colt python 2020 thanks for sharing Hickok45
I have a beautiful blued 81 python with 8in barrel. I love it! Smoothest pistol ive ever owned
Nice revolver!!
Were you in that movie: No Country for Old Men?
Blackstrap on the grip frame is also textured on the vintage ones, smooth on the new ones.
I would like to request a video of Hickock45 talking about happiness and his philosophy of "Life is good"...Thanks
I bought a stainless steel 6 inch model back in 2021. I would love to own a blued model eventually. Preferrably a 3 inch model.
Rear sights are fixed in the last 3 colts I Boughts. Rock solid.
This looks like a great option. It sounds like you’d put the blueing or finish at 90% of the original?
My first time with a Python was in 1976, when a fellow 2nd Lieutenant and former LEO let me shoot his. I had the lowly Ruger Super Blackhawk .357 Magnum with a 6-1/5” barrel. The Python was very smooth. We would shoot out in the desert at old ammo cans full of water. My take away from that brief time with his Python was the harshness of the checkered grips. Brutal, combined with the .357 jolt. But a prettier revolver was never made. I have so many semi-autos but will have to set aside some dineros some day for a blue six incher
The one in your right hand. Can tell by the sight insect. Beautiful pistols.
Held a newer stainless python almost bought it but decided to wait.Glad I did I will be getting the blued 6 inch.I want a older classic but I know I wouldn't shoot it much. The newer version I definitely would.
What do you call a snake that works for the government?
A civil serpent.
😂
😂🤣😂❤
And they all REPTILIAN 😱😱😱........😁❤️
Almost everybody that works for the government is a snake
A liberal!! But actually there the leftist ! There's no such thing as liberals anymore! We are literally under attack from the international left!
I bought my 2020 Python 2 years ago and got a great deal on it. If the Blued Python would been available I would have paid the extra money to get it. I did replace the rear sight on my Python and Anaconda (new model) with a Wilson Combat rear sight, big improvement. Im old school, I grew up with blued steel guns and wood and even before stainless guns were around. Yes I am old. 😉
Beautiful revolvers...I love it. - Greetings from South Africa
I’ll be getting a blue 6” to go with my stainless this year, probably as a birthday present to myself. Still want a 3” also not sure what finish yet.
You sir, are a legend.
I love colt and smith. Love revolvers
i was SO excited when i saw this on their website today. i used to be sad that they only had stainless (even tho it looks gorgeous), so i am very happy they came out with official blued versions. we are so back to the 1900s lol
Even on video, the finish looks really good.
Never liked SS guns of any make but I realized how hard it would be to get the polish of the original Python to make em blue a bad blue job would kill the Python! Was glad to see that they did get a more than decent polish on em.. course they are $100 more than the SS version. My 1969 Python has a look that... I doubt could be commercially done these days. But the new one looks way better than other stuff out there..
Why in the heck would they put a QR code on such a beautiful revolver?
Mass production.
@@66smithra They mass produce toilet paper and I don’t recall seeing a QR code when I’m whipping.
@@pamdemic7848 okay. I’m just telling you why it’s there. It’s so the frame can be inventoried digitally on the assembly line. Believe it, or not.
Man! I should have waited! I bought a stainless one a couple of years ago.
I always liked colt more now because S&W is off my buy list due to the killing of ThompsonCenter.
Nice guns! Pythons look so cool! But for EDC I have a Kimber 1911. No timing issues. In fact, no issues at all except for ammo prices. 45 acp is quite expensive these days.
Thanks for posting and sharing.
I still want colt to come out with some of their older classics like the New Service or the Official Police.
Hi Hickok,45 were ever able to get some one to see if you can test a .44 AutoMag the one in Dirty Harry's film Sudden Impact . Yeah that film .highly recommend you test it out . There not cheap .very pricey weapon to have now .
I know the guy that has Clint's gun, it is here in Dayton Ohio. He even has the delivery receipt signed by Clint. The auto mag was never a hit though, it was not very reliable.
Ottima la recensione del sempre verde revolver Colt Python. Al "PROFESSORE" un meritato plauso. Cordiali saluti 😊
The back-strap jumps right out at you.
I can’t believe Hickok ended a video on a bunch of misses! That’s a first!
I most love my guns blued. Parkerized comes in as a close 2nd
I don't care for the fully blued hammer on the 2020 Python. But, I'm glad Colt brought them to market.
Beautiful revolver
FC Hickok45 From Thailand 🇹🇭
I really like those grips on the old one. It's like us! We might be a little older but we look good lol
Thanks CZ for doing a great job 👏
CZ has nothing to do with COLT, CZ and COLT are owned by the same investor group, but the two companies have nothing to do with each other. they are run parallel and separately.
red ramp sight, different method of mounting the front sight, different backstrap, different hammer spur, among some of the things that stand out.
Definitely a Great Gun❤
Sad I already bought a python before the blue'd variant came out but the stainless did grow on me over time mainly due to that desirable QR code on it.
No idea why Colt couldn't have put the QR on the underside of the revolver.
Or even under the cylinder crane.
I agree, that QR code would drive me nuts and ruins the gun in my opinion.
They’re already on consignment up here for 2500+
Nice gun...master
Can you do a review of the Girsan Witness 2311, the 15rd 10mm version? Thank you!
I saw the writing on the wall a couple years ago. Sold my 1979 Blued Colt Python for a premium, then turned around and bought a 2020 Stainless Python. (I love shooting my guns). I don't know if I could get the same price for my old python as I could today (Probably less). I'd rather have a gun I can shoot and get parts for (My old python would have to go to a good gunsmith if anything was wrong as everything was hand fit).
Matter of fact there is a reputable gunsmith that advises that at this point , people stay away from used older Pythons bc spare parts are scarce
The 2020 is a better shooting gun, anyway. It's also more durable.
Most of the nostalgia about the old one is exactly that.
Original python in your right ✋🏿 hickok45
turn lines on the cylinder . . .
9:23 was that hammer not cocked all the way back or was that some kind of a malfunction?
I'd like to see them do a case color hardened frame with royal blue cylinder and barrel. Kinda a nod to the SAA.
Boy,how would you like to clean the front end of those cylinders!! Haha
The QR Code joke cracked me up.
Is that the combat elite? did you change the grips??
Awesome!
Beautiful!
Love the Colt 357... Lol love the little adjustments . Click click click, click, click click 😁😁 shoot , click click click click
I just purchased the security 9. Is yours still doing well?
I love ya Hick❤
Never got to fire, or even handle an original snake gun. Have always wanted a Python. Love my 2020 6" Python. Really want a blued 2020 in 5" but I'll take the 4.25" if I can't find a blued 5".
You're not missing much. They're cool collector pieces, but as shooters the new ones are better weapons.
As a non gun owner, is the QR code so the pistol can be tracked?Do you have to scan the QR at the time of purchase to go into an ATF database?
I think it shot a tad left on the plates. Confirmed on the red 2 liter misses at the end.
I hope they do the blue in the shorter barrels too. I’m sure they will
You tell a lot of stuff worth wild, Hickok 😅
