This is the episode that truly sets the tone for the show. So well done.
glad you guys have mentioned the editing of the show. To be able to squeeze so much into a 25-minute episode and make it truly flow is top talent.
Curious how Hader got so many talented people to work with him. The script must've been really good.
This is personally my favorite episode of this season. Taking such a heavy part and then ending that moment with Winkler's comedic timing is what makes this show so great.
I've read a few stories about Winkler with other actors and fans. They all said he's such a friendly and kind person. Just fyi
@@playedout148 I live in L.A. and have met him & know other people who have (it just happens here, it's a small town and I work at a studio.) He is the nicest most lovely person in H'wood. I'm so happy he found so much success with "Barry." He deserves it.
Nah, the comedic ending ruined it for me. Not the episode to do that on.
Hader and Henry Winkler both won Emmys for their performances in this season
This was a terrific episode. I love Bill. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for Barry. Well deserved. He’s very talented. Big fan!
It's probably the highlight of the season, the performances are so pitch perfect, it's impossible to improve. Watching Chris abruptly realizing he's in imminent danger of being killed by his friend and try to talk his way out is fascinating. And to drive the point that he's a fundamentally good person, he doesn't alert the passerby. And the scenes of guilt shown later by the flashes of Barry's imagination, perfect
One line and that was the most powerful thing that happened on the stage that night.
Biggest oh shit moment so far. The tension was crazy
The craziest aspect of this show is it only gets better from here.
I’m so glad you’re watching Barry. If you can believe it, it gets better and better as it goes….
I actually thought the first 2 seasons were the better ones. The third season and beyond had some holes in it for me personally.
I love the day dreams and dreams and fantasy sequences in this show that give us a deep insight to Barry's twisted mind. Surreal is a good thing on this show. Glad you guys are digging this show!
The whole series, acting writing sound design etc etc
AMAZING
Such an amazing episode. I have now watched all 4 seasons and can honestly say this show gets better and better with each one, loved it.
If it’s any consolation, lots of actors don’t torture themselves with real past trauma to get emotional: instead, they just work hard to connect with the imaginary circumstances, and put themselves in the character’s shoes enough that their emotions naturally get activated. Generally speaking, it’s much healthier than all the “method” stuff, and still creates great performances.
I always wondered about that. I would assume the best performances find some way to personally connect with the material. But maybe it's an unconscious process.
@@ct6852 Oh, absolutely - but there's a big difference between empathizing with a character, and dredging up your own personal trauma. After all, people watching movies/TV get emotional simply because they're empathizing and investing in those imaginary circumstances (and relating to the characters in some personal way). Many actors do the same thing for the characters they're playing. :)
@@dlweiss I've seen interviews with big name musicians and it's like they don't even know where their biggest hits came from. Like they were beamed down to them. Maybe with actors they just do the homework on the subject, read the lines and just channel it all somehow.
Love how authentic you are lads💪
My favorite episode of this season and probably the top 3 of the entire series.
Everyone is so good on this show. Sarah Goldberg regularly kills it in every scene.
Great episode and great reaction. When you finish all the seasons of Barry, keep in mind another series "Patriot" (only 2 seasons and 30 min episodes). Very similar humor and stress to Barry. Third season was abandoned because the main character had a conflict doing "For All Mankind." It's thoroughly enjoyable.
Where other shows would keep going the dexter route where it’s good guy does bad things to bad people, Barry just subverts expectations. By killing Chris, a truly innocent friend, Barry has become irredeemable and it really turns into a different show.
So Barry became irredeemable to you when he killed Chris.
Not when he started out as a hitman?
Interesting.
@@DanteRU0312 in a sense yeah. Like almost every tv show ever made, protagonists are written to be likeable/entertaining/endearing so that the audience will earnestly follow from week to week. It wasn’t until recently where mainstream shows had anti-heroes or straight up villains be protagonists. So after a lifetime of watching tv you suspend your morals/beliefs for a protagonist like Dexter, Walter White or Elliot from Mr.Robot. You think as long as they’re doing the bad things to bad people then it’s ok. There was this video essay recently where they claimed that Tony Soprano was the first time a protagonist did a straight up murder on tv, if true that really explains that through a tv medium people are conditioned to “root” for the protagonist because in the end tv shows are a product that studios want to sell to us and make sure we come back every week and advertisers don’t want to invest in commercial space of a show where people will be turned off from watching.
So in the case of Barry we can compartmentalize ethics and morals because he’s admittingly only taking out “bad guys” who do bad things. It’s not like in novels where the rules of the medium isn’t the same for each story. It wasn’t until I started watching shows like The Wire, Mad Men and Succession where I started to notice amoral subjects.
@@DanteRU0312 when he worked as a hitman he was groomed by Fuches, or was naive enough to believe he was going after bad people. This is the first time he kills someone who knows is a decent person
@@orlanmejia You're confused. Dexter killed serial killers. Barry started the show hired by Chechen bandits to kill a simple actor guy. There's no "they're doing bad things to bad people".
@@DanteRU0312 to be fair I never fully watched dexter, I gave it a shot and thought it was a horrible show. I guess yeah that’s right I overlooked the Ryan Madison thing and referred to Barry’s confession/monologue to Gene in the parking lot. Other than those minute details I feel my point still stands.
Many thanks to Shaun and Tom! 🩸 Alec Berg directed this episode. The tale and characters really are exquisite, aren't they? They become evermore so.
"I remember my first beer!" Lol
Kidding. Yes. Favorite episode of season one for sure. But season one is the 4th best season! So prepare yourself.
This show is such an anxiety trip.
Hey dudes, you can do Barry once a week and first finish up Chernobyl. Just an idea.
Not all vets see combat.
perfect episode
barry is sooooo good
The funniest thing is watching British people watch American people do British accents 😂👍🏾
👍
did y’all do ‘Fargo’? Movie and/or series?
We did the movie yes, not the show yet 😊
@@CinemaRulesIf you like Barry you'll love Fargo, they're both heavily inspired by the Coen Brothers. Definitely give it a shot
Yes guys, people are mostly about themselves. Congratulations on your incredible insight into the human mind.
The weird hatred for Sally and idolization of a murderer is very strange to me. I get he’s the lead of the show but damn, I thought y’all were better than this lol.
@@DNotzz Goes to show how powerful the narrator of the story is...or whichever star the show is about. once people establish their sympathies, it's hard to change.
