Viewer Question: Rodrigo - Hello John, Crew and Sir Robert. I was just browsing the movies on Google Play and I saw Mulan for the same price it was originally available on Disney+. I thought that with all the drama, they would at least make the new Mulan a Disney+ exclusive. What are your thoughts? And go Canada!

I’ll wait until Dec 4 when everyone with a Disney + subscription will get access at no extra cost.
Pirate Bay exists
Yes!
Yeah, have patience & do the sensible thing & wait! Your wallet will thankyou!
@@MYMINDism and it exists because of BS like this that Disney pulled smh
I love John's rants, it's pathetic what Disney pulled off.
I always enjoy a good old campea rant
This really made my day, I love to see John so passionate
.....Screaming intensifies😗😂😂😂😂5:00
🤣😂🤣😂
@@voicecrack7951 For real my ears disintegrated😂I was so caught off guard
Highlight of the video lmao
His shouting is hilarious 😂
Accurate!
Rob probably laughed his ass off at first with his mic on mute like: "And ya'll tried to clown me for owning physical media?! 😂"
i just sunk about $400 into disney's movies anywhere digital library, now im kinda half expecting the service to be canceled as Disney tries to think of ways to keep its head above water
I'll forever love my physical media collection
If Disney plans to keep releasing films through Premier Access on Disney+, then they’re going to HAVE to allow customers to link their account to Movies Anywhere so that their purchases sync to iTunes, VUDU, and Google Play once they become available on those platforms. That way, earlybird customers actually get to keep the films they buy through Premier Access.
Exactly
yes
The problem is that they want you to subscribe. They can't guarantee you will keep your subscription after you purchase the film. I honestly think they are going to scrap the Premiere Acess all together.
@@jianthonnierojas7436 But they CAN guarantee that subscribers will be pissed that non-subscribers get a better deal. If anything, THAT is what will cause people to unsubscribe -- the lack of consumer trust in Disney.
@@MovieCrazeYT I definitely agree on that with you
I always expected this to happen. The getting Mulan for $30 on D+ thing was in place of the movie going to theaters where you wouldn't get bonus features. Following the theatrical run the movie would then appear on itunes etc. and then finally appear for "free" as part of a streaming package.
Exactly. And Disney + subscribers got to watch it early. Of course they were gonna release the movie in order to be bought and owned as always. I don't understand the surprise and anger.
Yeah I don't see this as such a horrible move on their part. It was actually a foregone outcome of releasing it VOD.
@@andreoliveira191 You don't. Then think a little harder. It is not something that sits well. They straight up said that it would be free on Diney+ later. As such,, there was no reason to expect that within a few weeks, it would available to everyone at the same price,, but with more.
I'm pretty sure Disney even told us this was their plan from the start.
@@Man_of_the_Dark Not that I recall. They were very specific about when it would be free o D+, but that was all I saw.
So Mulan is the most expensive movie rental and most expensive movie to own, WOW Disney SUCKS for that.
You know Rob is about to go in when you hear the deep breath! Lol
Take a long deep breath. Disney has always been out to rip us off with remakes.
logirex Disney not making Star Wars movies is a good thing after the garbage trilogy they made.
Back in the 90's Disney made a lot of cheap direct to VHS sequels to all their famous movies. The animation was noticably cheaper and most times without the original voice cast. Back then they charged you the same as you would for a normal blockbuster movies.
Disney has always been doing stuff like that in order to make more money. Nothing ever really changes, just the mediums.
True
See company lose customers
Poor John. So glad I canceled my trial period right after Mandolorrian 😂
Season 2 drops soon
I can't believe john doesn't see what is going on...this movie bombed so hard that Disney were force to do this to get as much money as they can out of it.
trust me, they wouldn't be doing this if they made the money they thought they were gonna make through Disney plus.
Well imagine paying $30 for a movie. Not everyone has kids and families
They talked about that. It was the first thing they discussed when John threw it over to Robert.
Nah, they'd still do it.
Exactly. And Disney + subscribers got to watch it early. Of course they were gonna release the movie in order to be bought and owned as always.
Most small businesses loose money periodically to take care of their customers. Why? Because trust in their customers is more profitable in the long run. Why can't Disney do the same thing? Yeah it's a lot of money but they are disney they will be fine.
John definitely watched Max Kellermann too often 😂😂
Yeah apt, he is as good of an analyst in movies as Max is to boxing, i'm a boxing fan, i rate Max very highly as an analyst of the Sport!!
LoL 😂😂
It's free on this website called onion play that's where I watched it I'll be damned if I pay for something but the movie was trash
First take call out nice!
@@kayvee4425 yeah man. You can knock max for anything, but when it comes to boxing, the guy is just a repository of boxing knowledge.
Me: So Mulan is going to be a Disney + exclusive?
Disney: Yes.
Me: But why did you release it digitally for other companies to release to their customers?
Disney: Yes.
😝
Ya, Disney needs to change that PVOD so people own the movie.
Not worth it because the movie is dogshit
At this point I’m starting to wonder if Disney is actively trying to make everyone who subscribed to Disney+ regret their decision
This really stings admittedly. But like Rob said, they are just trying to figure things out in what is effectively an unprecedented situation.
You never own movies on streaming platforms, you’re given access to stream it from their servers. They can remove it anytime they want.
Digital = non ownership . That's the real bend over of it all.
Physical media 🥳
Well good thing I didn’t buy this garbage
Me either
Not interested in the first place... Look if i want to watch a chinese colosal period drama, i would have watched an actual chinese-produced colosal period drama in chinese not in english
You could see this coming from a mile away..
Already cancelled Disney +. Will pay monthly for my man, Mando
Omg your rants are so good! Made a smile on me today :-)
I never understood why anyone would ever have bought it to begin with. Who would pay $30 for a movie where on the same service, there's essentially exactly the same movie, which most people regard as significantly better, and in addition to that, the $30 movie that wasn't even well reviewed, and people had the opportunity to see those reviews before purchase, is just going to be released in December for Disney+ subscribers as part of their subscription anyway?
They lost a lot of money with this movie and the D+ experiment didn’t workout as well so they’re trying other options and maximizing it. I don’t see why this is a surprise lol
Exactly. And Disney + subscribers got to watch it early. Of course they were gonna release the movie in order to be bought and owned as always.
A good old Campea rant like back in the Collider days. How much I missed that!
Back when it was announced Disney was doing this in the first place I said this was a terrible idea. In fact any movies, new or not, renting for $30 is a bad idea for the consumer. I had a lot of pushback on reddit with people saying “if I go out with my family to the movies it costs more than $30” etc Yes but that’s an experience and you are OUT with your family. Right now the cost of renting a movie is $6 or less and the cost of owning a movie, digital or physical is $30 or less. Once we as the consumer say it is ok to charge us $30 for a rental than we lose permanently.
lol, if this guy feels screwed over by the release of Mulan, imagine how Hong Kong must feel.
Damn straight lol
LOL!
What sold me was their claim that future releases would be available for the initial 30 you paid. There was discussion about Black Widow being released to premium. I’m really pissed about this
If you listen carefully you can hear the sound of *Mickey Mouse laughing* at his subscribers while getting high in China with Randy Marsh.
I really really missed pissed off Campea lol thank you for that!
Wait for it, wait for it. Hot damn there it is. Meltdown at starts at 4:30sec mark. I love it give'm hell Brother Johnny, Hell Ah Lou Ah, A Man, Frak D+
The thing is that with the old model, studios could triple dip their customers. First you pay to see the movie in a theatre, then you pay for either a physical copy or a rented version and finally they could license the movie to tv channels.
No PVOD model could replace that.
I dumped Disney + after watching Hamilton four times.
wait till john hear that it’s only $13.50 in my country on itunes 😜
4:59 - 5:29 Jesus John scared me there getting all heated😂
LBM yeah that's the first time I saw him like this
Overreact much?
@@nelly13b
Imagine being this clueless...
Him screaming about Mulan made me want to go clean my room, wash the dishes and take the trash out.....and I already took it out this morning.
No one who "bought" it in Disney wasn't going to keep it to begin with & it was always paying extra for earlier viewing. It sucks but honestly nothing I wouldn't expect anyway.
Remember this time last year when Disney+ first dropped, Disney/Marvel stans were saying Disney+ was gonna kill Netlifx. I remember reading comments like RIP Netlifx lmao
Almost a year in and D plus has one original and that's Mandalorian. Everything else is just nostagic shit that you'll watch and get bored off a week after watching it. Granted, COVID has deleyed a lot of the Marvel shows, but launching with just one orignal was stupid.
Woah...this is how I felt listening to my mom and dad screaming at each other. 😂
It doesn't get my blood boiling. With my physical media, my physical books, my Marvel Unlimited app, my Kindle packed with e-books, Amazon Prime, HBO and D+ there is so much content that I would not pay extra to watch a single movie. Not even Black Widow. Like Rob said, I will just wait.
You both are spot on. Premium releases are done. I'm a Disney+ customer in the UK. I would never pay £30/$30 for a film unless they provide better seats for me. They need to 'give' this film to those who did buy it at that exorbitant amount, to get those people back onside and show they aren't the type of mouse, that steals everyone's cheese. Paying for a theatrical release at home is fine, but not when it's available elsewhere so soon and to buy for at the same cost with all those added benefits of extras etc. Wow they have really dropped the ball. I bet some people are getting fired over these poor decisions/choices.
Although I subscribe to Disney+ (Hulu/ESPN+), I would not be interested in renting any movie for $30 on that platform. With that said, I don't understand what the issue is. If you're a Disney+ subscriber, you have the privilege of seeing the movie firsthand before anyone else. If you're willing to pay the rental fee, then go ahead. If you don't want to, then just wait until it becomes available on another platform with or without the bonus features or on regular Disney+. This is no different than going to see a movie in a theater when it comes out ($50+ for two people-- including snacks/food, etc.) or wait until it comes out on VOD or Blu-Ray after the theatrical window (as you guys mentioned). There are tons of movies where my partner and I have decided to wait to watch them on HBO/Cinemax/Showtime or VOD. We look at different reviews and the subject of the movie (blockbusters, artsy, etc.) and then make a decision if we'll see it "as premium" in a movie theater or later at home.
And this is why i still have a hard copy DVD collection.
In the current crazy world we live in, a John rant, just makes me feel so much better and content. Bring on the filthy dude.
Disney after seeing this video: Why are you yelling at me 🥺
I really hope they find some way to apologize to their fanbase for this.
Plot Twist. "Buying" on other platforms and you still don't own Mulan. You own a license to stream that movie.
Semantics. Even if you buy it on blu-ray you still don't "own" the movie.
@@nabetse1999 But you own the blu-ray or DVD. No one can take that away from you. If the service you buy the movie on shuts down, you're shit out of luck.
@@nabetse1999 Except you do own it on blu-ray. You can throw the disk away, give it away to someone for free or even sell it. You can do none of these things with the "license" plus if you stop paying for Disney+ you can't even watch the movie you paid for.
@@cloudtx When you buy a blu-ray it's also just the license. I love physical media, I'm just saying that you shouldn't complain because you will never "own" it fully either way.
Incorrect, you own the movie. I purchased Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Infinity War, Endgame, Searching and 24: The Complete Series and own all of them. Once you make the purchase(s) you have the option to download and you get all the bonus features.
I do got to correct John on one thing: my Google Play ownership of the newer Star Wars movies did not come with their deleted scenes or special features. Disney held that for the Disney+ releases. Maybe they'll update my owned copy, but right now, I had to go to Disney+ to watch deleted scenes for movies I own.
Yep, upon checking my Google Play Movies account, my copy of Rise of Skywalker does NOT have any of the deleted scenes or special features. My copy of The Last Jedi does after an update. Disney+ had all that stuff day one.
There is the risk of spoilers if someone waits several months to watch certain movies so in those cases people will try to access the movie as soon as possible. I cannot imagine what would have happened back in 2019 with Avengers: Endgame.
It reminds me of every few years when i decide to upgrade my phone. I see that "New Customers" get the flavor of the month phone for $250 with a new contract whereas me being with the company for 20 years almost has to pay $700. Where is my reward for staying loyal?? Why treat new/non customers to something special while I get no incentive?? Its really messed up.
I'll be honest, I'm not that mad. I think the decision was made because they didn't get the numbers they wanted in China or on Disney+ and to make up the money, they had to open it up for sale at other places as well. Its kind of an unprecedented situation so strategies are being made on the go and a little bit of rope has to be given to the studios. I don't think they made a particular plan to screw their Disney+ consumers because why would they? I think they should lower the price on Disney+ now to show at least some monetary advantage to buying on Disney+.
Very much agree. My mindset about it exactly.
Also, they didn’t actually lie. They called it “premiere access”, meaning you were paying to see it early, not exclusively. As far as I know, they never specified how early.
@@raphaeldelaghetto85 Agreed
@@raphaeldelaghetto85 Yeah.... but that's kind of dodgy. Its just one of those expected things that Disney+ would get Mulan exclusively for a lot longer. Like I said, I get it, so I'm not mad or anything. They are just figuring this situation out on the fly which is honestly the best they can do.
Lol John went off so angry that my mom thought I was watching those rage gamers compilation
Rob hit right on head....the VOD premium will never replace the actual movie going experience. I pay $14/ticket for the experience of enjoying the theater experience.
Lmfaoooooooo 🤣 John's explosions kill me 😂
Disney's made so many bad decisions lately, like this and opening up the parks and having shitty results, but they're god damn stock still won't go down. -.-'
Its going to be free to watch on D+ from the start of December with no uplift fee and that was always the plan. So you only paid the $30 to have early access for a couple months
Disney should send subscribers a redeem code to own Mulan if they purchased to unlock it in Disney+
I know I'm late to the party on this conversation but just the other day I talked to my wife about this and I told her that I thought about ordering Mulan on Disney+ but I couldn't figure it out. she pulled her phone out and showed me the order button. I opened Disney+ on my Xbox and showed her that there was no order button and told her I also looked at the App on the TV upstairs and it wasn't there either. I'm not saying this makes it okay to do what they did with other digital services, but I do believe it caused fewer people to buy it.
YES JOHN! More rants like this!! Love the passion and well said!!
That's why I don't want to let go of physical media!
Yeah still getting a error code for EndGame 😐 on Disney+
@@kieranhealy8279 Disney should really Imburst us, but I guess what The Mouse wants The Mouse Gets
When you mentioned that the vod have extensive special features is when I got pissed.
I've decided to cancel Disney+ the moment Mandalorian season 2 is over. There is no reason to have the streaming platform, but I had it anyway just to watch simpsons and support disney. After this stunt? Fuck em.
I am shocked, shocked...... people actually use Google Play!!!!!!
Wow how desperate Disney has to be to do do such a thing.
As a Marketing learner, Disney was always focusing on Customer Experience first, but now they lost the respect and needs to do strategies to start earning that trust again.
Pathetic move.
The Netflix controversy and now this Disney thing are helping HBO-Max more and more.
I logged into the PSN store the other day and saw Mulan for sale. I wasn't furious about it but I was like " wtf ". I praised Disney plus for taking a stand against other apps and making their content exclusive, but in the end it was just another false advertisement. Expect WandaVision to show up on Amazon Prime in 5 months
I would think they make this D+ means you get it a month before everyone else AND once its released elsewhere now you "own" it. That or D+ is cheaper than other outlets.
Jesus John!!!! You want some cheese to go with that whine!!! My only question is how did you NOT know that this was going to happen!!! This is why we, as a family, are waiting for it to drop for free on Disney +
I wonder if Disney will somehow make it possible for people who purchased early access to have it linked in their Movies Anywhere account so that they can actually own it.
Honestly, as a collector, I would have been fine paying that much for a 4K BluRay combo. But they said they're not doing physical media anymore so to hell with them.
So it also turns out that the 30$ to-own product is significantly better 30$ to-rent product due to extended extras available
It's videos like these is the reason why i love John 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I can’t believe John is raising this stink about a difference in the sale method. The perk was we watched first, as if we went to the movies.
Slight correction, Mulan on Disney+ is in 4K. I paid for the premium viewing the weekend it was available and watched it in 4K
Disney+ has a $69.99 a year plan so those who plan to keep Disney+ can pay less year to year (until Disney raises the price).
Mulan was available in 4K thru Premier Access (so it’s not a advantage that VOD providers have). I’m sure some of the extras will be added to Disney+ at some point, although some films still had more extras on their BD releases than on Disney+ or VOD.
I didn’t get Mulan as I was waiting for 4K Blu-ray or VOD. Now that VOD has arrived, I’m not sure if I will get the 4K BD and may just wait for Disney+ general access in December.
Makes me wonder when loyal Disney customers will finally wake up and walk away from this abusive relationship lol. Disney will only change if people stop giving them money for the crap they put out and pull.
Um.... that's how VOD works. You're renting for an early access like going to a theatre where you don't own the movie - you just get to watch it early.
After leaving theatres the movie becomes available to purchase on digital platforms with extras. Then becomes available to purchase on disc with extras. Then shows up for free on streaming platforms.
Mulan does this exact same theatrical pattern, except that they subbed Disney+ VOD in place of the theatrical release part.
Disney+ members will get to have free access to Mulan without any additional fees in a few months. They were transparent about their intentions to do so. If you paid for it, you paid the equivalent of taking your family to the theatres. If you don't want to pay for that, just be patient and wait for the usual other distribution methods that you DO feel like paying for.
Disney didn't "pull a fast one", you just weren't paying attention or thinking it through.
I cant even figure out how to get premere access on my disney plus so I couldnt watch it even if i wanted to watch it.
I’ve been busting my ass being a Disney+ subscriber 😂. Also, Disney doesn’t put consumers first!? 😮Shocking!
LOVE Campea rants😂
Me too. They are funny. One of my favorite rants of his was when he was yelling about the fact that Regal and Cinemark were extending their previews to 30 minutes.
Peyton Michael Thats a GREAT one
I don’t really care tbh. How Rob says, “it’s show business, not show friends.”
Didn't Disney tell us before hand this was their plan?
I have bought Disney+ subscription back in March. I have watched one movie and one series since then. I have been loyal subsciber despite the fact that there is no new content whatsoever. And they doing this? Mulan should be shared to us FOR FREE! At this point I am seriously considering cancellation and visiting my old friend Pirates Bay and his other homies....
Not all the general population understands paying 30 bucks to stream a movie, that's true.
That, and not everywhere has high speed internet so not everyone has access to it.
I wonder if that's why Netflix hasn't shuttered their mail-in DVD service yet.
Great podcast btw today! We gotta understand in a pandemic world Disney is losing way more money domestically and in foreign markets. Their hand is forced to streaming content on a production that cost 250 million US to make. Disney cannot now make their normal profits with a theatrical release that’s the problem. I do agree more perks for the $ make some people happy.
Disney has just laid off 8800+ staff at Orlando. They are bleeding from everywhere as a mult-billion dollar business.
Disney be like.
This is business
I always thought releasing on streaming was a mistake to begin with. Most people CAN wait for a movie. It would have performed better in the theater simply because it would have felt like a bigger deal. Anyway, hope Disney learned their lesson here.
Waiting for that The Mandalorian Blu-Ray release
Maybe in future premier access should come with a hard copy of the movie, either a blu ray or DVD sent out to customers.
The Disney+ Version is 4K as well. At least here in Germany.
All they had to do was run a bundle, pay for the premium movie and get a few months free of Disney plus, so at the very least as a consumer of Disney plus when they release it for people to own you can look back and say, well at least I have a few months free. I also think more people would’ve been inclined to pay for it.
Wow! That’s an Epic Rant!
Should have got the popcorn ready first 😊
I haven't watched JC in a while, makes me miss the AMC and Collider days with John Schnepp
I am surprised it wasn't in 4K on Disney+ .
Yeah. Idiotic move on their part. Glad I didn't buy in it their trap.
Omg this video made my day 😂🤣🤣🤣😂. I understand that some people don't like the DC universe app but at least they reward you with tokens and you can get stuff with the tokens which I think is cool giving us rewards for being a long time subscriber would be awesome
Basically, he is mad, that he didn't get something, that he was never promised.
Extras are included when you buy it on itunes etc. but not on D+
Having fun paying that $30, yet?! I'm still waiting on December. LOL
I'm not surprised that Disney gave the same price for customers of other streaming services. I'm surprised that they gave MORE FEATURES to those that aren't subscribed to Disney+ like the extras and the documentary.
What is the point of you, Disney? WHAT. IS. THE. POINT.
I'm planning on keeping my Disney + subscription until I see Mandolorian season 2. There hasn't been any other content that Disney has made exclusively for the digital platform that really makes me want to update my subscription for a second year. This Mulan fiasco serves as another nail in the coffin for me...
Disney did the opposite of what they SHOULD do.
Allow the disney plus customers to purchase AND DOWNLOAD the film with special features.
Make all the other sites rent it for the same price as the disney us ownership & recieve no special content on other sites.
