    Two reasons I don't think anyone else has called out Disney for the lies in the marketing:
    1: I think most people are wise enough to not fall for ANY marketing for The Marvels which referenced the old (good) movies.
    2: People didn't go see the movie, so they never found out if the marketing was telling the truth or not.

      There were literally articles from portals regarding Carol Denvers referring her defeating Thanos & brand new unused Thanos dialogues in trailers to hype up the movie. Other Phase 4 movies trailers did used the old Endgame footage of Thanos but it never marketed as brand new dialogues & the main hero referring him that weren't in the final cut of movies/shows.

      @Ed_Scott Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@5150Amrit I get all of that. But this is another case of people going in with preconceived notions of what they wanted to see. Most people can go IMDB the cast list to see if Brolin is credited with a voice over. Hell, if you don’t go to that site it would be been all over the net that he was back as Thanos.
      We’re all a little too savvy in the movie game to not get got like that. It sounds like a super duper far reach to blame Disney for someone else’s fan theories not panning out.

      @@Ed_Scott IMDB doesn't give credit to voice-over cameos more often, take example of Jeremy Renner's voice over cameo in Black Widow movie which was uncredited. People generally watch trailers & when they see Captain Marvel referring destroying Thanos & new unheard dialogues of Thanos himself quoting & hyping his unfinished work, it will create confusion that the movie might have something related to Thanos & that confusion won't be cleared until they see the movie themselves or follow spoilers review of someone else which many people avoid these days.

    As a marketing student who studies this stuff, I fully recognize that The Marvels suffered from a lot of things that prevented it from doing well at the box office. The marketing just happens to be one of them. It sucks the actors could not help with it due to the strikes because outside of the movie like inside of it they all seem to have a good time with each other. That being said, I at this point can't defend that last trailer they put out. It makes no sense, it didn't matter what movie or show this trailer was attached whether it was Falcon and Winter Solider or a movie like Ant Man 3. It makes no sense in context with the movie. It's nostalgia bait and the best way to do nostalgia is if it makes sense. It's a well made trailer, but again it makes no sense. At the same time none of the trailers did a good job to communicate what this story was about even without the actors talking about it. They also seemed to forget this movie had a director because I barely saw Nia DaCosta promote it. It just sucks all around and I hate that this is the movie that it all came to happen to...

    I’m a huge fan of John and this show and a big Marvel fan. But I saw this trailer several times and not once did I ever think any part of the plot had to do with Thanos. I thought it was a general comment, that there will always be another villain to fight.

    Marvel did a very similar thing with Ant-Man this year, framing it as a Ant-Man bargaining with Kang to get time with his daughter back when that has no place in the plot.

    Disney marketing was set behind the 8-ball the minute Zawe Ashton was named as the baddie. She has zero "baddie" chops...

      Agreed. I was stunned that they chose her to be the villain.. but I later learned that the actress is Tom Hiddleson's wife lol. No wonder she got the gig. It was probably a clause in his contract for the Loki D+ show.

    They could have at least taken from BvS and had the opening scene show Carol wtecking the planet from Dar Benn's pov, and show Dar Benn trying to mitigate the destruction and death.
    You know, so she has a character.

    There definitely needs to be questions around what trailers can and can't do. This already happened with game trailers, namely around in the 2000s where trailers had to say what was and wasn't in game footage because otherwise they'd render beautiful animations and make it seem like that level of graphics is what you would get in game. The same needs to be said of movie trailers. That if a trailer does contains X% of footage from the movie, the trailer must be removed from all official social media, third party official media and broadcast before the release of a movie.
    I had to admit, the claims in those trailers did have me feeling like maybe I should go check out the Marvels, that maybe there was more to the movie than first thought. To find out that is not at all the case is odd and offensive.
    Makes you wonder as well, was that voice line even recorded by Josh Brolin even or did they use some kind of voice generator purely to fake out audiences further? I guess we won't know for sure but that is really underhanded if they went through that much effort.
