      If there are many differences, it's imo that the Tories try and do some things and Labour blocks them. Or the social fabric goes crazy and the Tories sit idly by. There's a Rizla paper of difference between them, though if you dig down you'll find that the Tories do have some good ideas that fail to get translated by Labour councils. And the Tories fail to follow up or even check where the money is going. The Lib Dems are the Middle Class version of Labour and the Greens are self-confessed international Marxists and not to be trusted either.
      But most Brits are conditioned to swing from red to blue (or red to yellow in Scotland) in an endless tedium of same old, same old. It'll only change if people are brave enough to go and vote (turnout is usually quite apathetic), research these parties, and think outside the boxes we are placed in from our youth upwards.

      It's a slow process to win elections. Reform candidates will have to be prepared to stand over and over again and lose before the voting public begins to consider them. It's frustrating, because we are going to have to tolerate five years of a Labour government, at least, but if Reform give up because they don't get seats immediately they'll never get anywhere. It might be 2030 before they get any MPs.

      Under the First Past the Post voting system, you never get what you asked for. Most votes are wasted in safe seats, regardless of whether you are on the winning or the losing side. In non-safe seats, you cannot vote for whom you actually want with any strong expectation of winning. We do not have a two-party democracy: we have a two-party, nominally "elected" dictatorship.

      If you make voting compulsory, you would either have to add a "none of the above" choice to the ballot paper or risk large numbers of spoilt ballot papers. Why would either of those options be an advantage over what we have now?
      Or, would you make it illegal to spoil you ballot paper, how would you check if the ballot is secret, what penaties wouldyou impose and would it be democratic or totalitarian to make people vote for candidates they do not support the way they have to in autocratic regimes where the incumbent polls 110% of the vote?

What point would there be in making this change? It would not "signal" anything which the political parties do not already know: that many people do not vote because there is no one worth voting for. All you would be doing is to punish a large section of the electorate for the failure of any of the politicians on offer to be sufficiently appealing. It's the politicians and the system of electing them which needs to change, not the electorate.
