  • In Devon, I've been building confidence cycling on hills and on roads - two things I don't have much practice in. I'm currently visiting Brett in Hamburg, where it is flat and cycle paths are everywhere, so I decided I should try training distance. On a sunny Saturday, we cycled from Lübeck to Lüneburg, following the Old Salt Route (or Alte Salzstraße) that traces the Lübeck-Elbe canal. We ended up cycling over 100 kilometres, one of my furthest cycle rides to date! It was definitely a bit of a struggle, but I'm excited to tackle some more longer distances in the future!
    Additional footage thanks to Brett!

I'm a big fan of Luneburg Heide/heath and the people of northern Germany! I've visited friends many times and everyone is SO very nice! They have an amusing rivalry with southern Germans - Bavarians - that seems similar to the Scottish/English rivalry but not quite so 'hot'. More friendly. I strongly recommend the Heidschnucke stew (sheep - no idea if it is lamb or mutton).
If you ever go back there don't ask for Heideschnecke stew as I once did (heathland snail). I don't think it was an option but they had a good laugh at the silly British guy, then bought me a beer.
    I really enjoyed your video

@@Neilhuny Thanks for your kind words and for sharing your experience! Snail stew doesn’t sound too enticing aha 😂 We really did enjoy it there, and everyone was very friendly!
