Cycling from Exeter to Dawlish Warren on the NCN2
On a warm morning in June, I cycled 38km from Exeter to Dawlish Warren, and then back to Exeter following the Exe Estuary Trail. It was a hot day, so I loved going for a sea swim at Dawlish Warren!

Cycling from Lübeck to Lüneburg on the Alte Salzstraße

In Devon, I've been building confidence cycling on hills and on roads - two things I don't have much practice in. I'm currently visiting Brett in Hamburg, where it is flat and cycle paths are everywhere, so I decided I should try training distance. On a sunny Saturday, we cycled from Lübeck to Lüneburg, following the Old Salt Route (or Alte Salzstraße) that traces the Lübeck-Elbe canal. We ende...

Our Lockdown Puzzle Project

While back home in the Netherlands during the first coronavirus lockdown, my mum and I completed 27 puzzles - all without looking at the pictures on the boxes! The puzzles we enjoyed the most were the Jan van Haasteren ones - and so we decided to keep 16 puzzles intact so we could take some photos with the drone. Here (finally) is the video from our lockdown puzzle project! Special thanks to Br...

Noice! I may try this sometime on my 7 speed Electra Beach Cruiser. It's not ideal for hills, but . . .
Lovely video and great ride…one of my favourites too. 😀👍 The pedant in me asks you not to lay your bike down on that side as it can easily bend the derailleur hanger. Happy riding. 😀
Thanks for the kind words and for the advice re: laying my bike down! A few others have mentioned this too, will keep it in mind for future trips :)
I'm a big fan of Luneburg Heide/heath and the people of northern Germany! I've visited friends many times and everyone is SO very nice! They have an amusing rivalry with southern Germans - Bavarians - that seems similar to the Scottish/English rivalry but not quite so 'hot'. More friendly. I strongly recommend the Heidschnucke stew (sheep - no idea if it is lamb or mutton). If you ever go back there don't ask for Heideschnecke stew as I once did (heathland snail). I don't think it was an option but they had a good laugh at the silly British guy, then bought me a beer. I really enjoyed your video
@@Neilhuny Thanks for your kind words and for sharing your experience! Snail stew doesn’t sound too enticing aha 😂 We really did enjoy it there, and everyone was very friendly!
Lovely video. I did Devon c2c last year at 2nd attempt, 1st attempt rear wheel packed in. It’s really a nice route. We did those rides from Exeter to Dawlish / Exmouth last year and my wife found it ok as it’s not too hilly.
I've cycled this route many times . One of my favorite . I'ts a shame the cafe at the old lock keepers cottage is no longer there .
I didn’t know there used to be a cafe there, that does sound lovely!
I did this yesterday! Stopped at Starcross & got the ferry to Exmouth.
@@Farmlandsfallfan No way! We might have passed each other! I still haven’t done the ferry across the estuary, but it’s definitely something I’d like to do at some point!
cool video
Excellent idea for a day out. Great video.
Thanks for your kind comment!
A+. Looks a good ride. You need Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres. The Gold Standard in puncture resistance. Never had a puncture using these tyres on any of my bikes in 20+ years of cycling many many thousands of miles.
Thanks for the recommendation! We did end up buying new back tyres for both bikes and haven't had an issue since!
I must admit that I'm a great fan of, and owner of, Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres, but if they aren't available in the local bike shop I would be very happy with the Continental Contact Plus. Plus I'm a road tourer type and would avoid gravel if I have panniers - if I really want/need to tour using gravel tracks I definitely would go for the Contact Pluses (Plus's?)
@@Neilhuny These are the tyres I had before SMP and got too many punctures.
Great video. Beautiful area.
Nice video, beautiful scenery and nice commentary.
Thanks for your kind words and for subscribing!
Such beauty to ride through, especially those paths through the forest. Looks like you had a great weekend. 🙂
It was really lovely - and you're right - the paths through the forest were especially wonderful! It was a fab weekend, really enjoyable!
Put the bag on your bike, not on your back - if you do a longer ride you will soon find out why!

If you come to kenya i will host you lol we might make great content using our bikes ......
Such lovely landscape to ride around. 🙂 Greetings from Canada
It was honestly such a beautiful day, and such a fun way to explore! Thanks for watching and for following along!
thank you for a lovely video, very relaxing, did you have any problems with regard to taking your bike on the train
Thanks for your kind comment! No problems taking my bike on the train, although it does depend which train you're trying to get on! This was a local Great Western Rail service, so you don't need to book in advance.
Buy Schwalb German/Deutschland tyres! I have had my tourer for nearly fifteen years and no punctures!😊 The odd valve has failed, but had no punctures!
Ooh thanks for the advice - will have to look into that :)
I've just happened across your channel. I'm entranced! I have family living in Plymouth, and family living to the east of Okehampton. Both brothers of mine and their families. I grew up in Toronto (and area) after emigrating in the late fifties from London, and the rest of the family returned to the UK some twenty years later, but being the brash North American, I stayed here, but often visited and did work sojourns in the UK (mostly London). When I was in the UK last, I cycled most of the route you've taken in this vid, up from Plymouth and back down again. It was only in the last two years or so that a younger brother had moved to east of Okehampton, and I've been tempted by the thought of doing the trail from near Meldon down to Plymouth, and more. Even in my Seventies, I'm an incurable distance cyclist, and my choice of trails, when offered, are like yours. There's some great ones in North Am, but nothing like what the UK offers. Thank you so much for this, and your Exmouth to Budleigh one, which I always relished doing. In my past trips to that part of the country, I'd done many from the Taunton area where yet another brother was living up in the Blackdown Hills, my father was in Wellington, and aunt and uncle in North Somerset. It's gorgeous cycling country, and you're doing it so well.
Aw thank you so much for your kind comment! It really is lovely cycling here (when the weather isn’t too miserable!)
I have to correct "to the east of Okehampton"...it's to the west.
Great video. More on the bikes, what to pack, how you navigate, and plan your ride etc.👍
Thanks for posting. Looks a great route, and perfect weather to ride it.
Thanks for your comment! It was a great ride and you’re right, we got so lucky with the weather!!
Just come across your very charming and laid back video. Cinematic tones, interesting narration, a very well put together vid, very well done. You have an interesting accent (I detect USA (maybe Canada), Scottish and regional English accent). Sorry I’m a bit of an Accent geek, lol. Keep up the Cycle vids, from a fellow Travel Vlogger/Cyclist and new Subber 😎👍
Haha thanks for your kind comment! You’re right about a mix of accents - I’m American but have lived abroad since I was 8!
My niece does this sort of thing (swimming anywhere and anytime) I’m afraid I think she’s bonkers . But there you are……say no more . Thank you Ms W
