Great introduction to Nassim Taleb and overall good video. Very well put together. Never heard of Nassim till this moment; without a doubt a profound thinker. Will read his stuff and you good sir just earned a new subscriber! Great work!!
His stuff is interesting. But, after reading Incerto, I've realized he repeats a lot of pre-existing work. The Lindy-Effect, his one-direction take to Popper's paradox of tolerance (which is proving invalid recently), and the list goes on. He tends to also muddy the water on what applies at which scale. He is a brilliant investor, though. He turned that success into a life-long effort of exploring things many have been working on. There's nothing wrong with that, but he tends to not be as upfront on it as he should be. It tends to give me a more "popular" intellectual vibe, similar to Ryan Holiday.
The only problem with Talib himself is his belief in “ God” . As he debated atheists . Other than that , he is spot on . His books are a major criticism of American capitalist / financial system .
How did you deal with all the egotism? I was highly annoyed by Taleb's constant self-praise in "Antifragile", then bored by it, then forced by it to stop reading. Is this a cultural thing or an individual foible of his? His ideas speak for themselves without his salesmanship.
Taleb has some great material, but I stopped following him on Twitter when he we was wrong on COVID. He first bought into fear-mongering and then pushed the jab in a very naive way. He compromised some of his own principles and seemed to just double down rather than admit he was wrong. Of course, you can still learn a lot from his books.
He was right on COVID. He supported masking and vaccines before most people, and even wrote a white paper about it in JANUARY 2020. What are you on about?
@@animalstylefry He was atrociously wrong on both, which did more harm than good. The only people I know who've gotten COVID in the last 2 years were jabbed. Social distancing was also a joke based on zero science. But keep being programmed if that's your thing.
