- In this video Leah explores the complex relationships between tinnitus and various conditions in the context of VA disability. She emphasizes the individuality of each case, cautioning that the presence of tinnitus doesn't guarantee a causal link to other conditions like depression, anxiety, or migraines. Leab provides a comprehensive overview of tinnitus, describing it as a common issue characterized by ringing or other internal noises in the ears, often associated with acoustic noise exposure among veterans. She details the secondary conditions frequently connected with tinnitus on a service-connected basis, including migraines, insomnia, anxiety, and depression, and discusses the concept of tinnitus as an intermediate step, potentially leading to other medical conditions indirectly.

I sleep with a spare tire with the valve stem missing and a endless supply of air ! 24 - 7
Mine is about 2.5K hz, and loud enough to drown out a jet engine when I am sitting on the wing.

another fine video. I have a hearing c and p exam feb 8th by a contractor. It comes a year after my first ever hearing test at the VA where the tester seem to want to confine my answer to ringing in the ears. I dont have a lot of ringing but I have lots hissing, like steam leak ever since I had to fire a hand piston and m 16 3 times a year late 60s early 70s. I learned of my hearing loss in 2006 after I sold my business and went for a CDL license and my left ear (i fire left handed) was borderline to pass to drive a school bus. Unlike a lung function test however there is a part of a hearing test that can be construed as subjective. Still waiting for decisions. My non VA lawyer neighbor thinks hey may be having problems with my non combat ptsd of which I had solid evidence of only 2 so far. thanks for your videos, we are grateful
I am sorry to hear this. Thank you for watching!
I finally got my rating last week for tinnitus! wish me luck on my secondary..
Congrats and best of luck!!
Am a vet.. you helped me today.
Good Job!!
I am so glad to hear this sir. Thank you for watching!
your information was both helpful & informative, i need information or direction on filing an tinnitus appeal , was denied in 2007, never really followed up, now i have interest in exploring options for a long over due resolution
I am so glad you found it helpful! If you are looking for assistance with an appeal you may want to contact your local VSO. If you are looking for assistance with a nexus letter you can discuss with your treating doctor and we are also happy to assist if possible. Please reach out to us at info@prestigeveteranmctx.com
Great Video Mam

Best of luck to you! Thank you for watching!
Good video ma'am
Thank you for watching!!
I would like to add that Prestige/Leah's DBQ and Nexus letter for anxiety and depression did help getting my approved rating
Glad to hear! Thank you for watching!
If you don't mind my asking, what rating percent did you get just for depression?
@@prestigeveteranmedical I'll be reaching out soon as I was SC for Tinnitus last December. Three of those you mentioned are for my next claim.
Best of luck to you sir and keep us posted@@jetfan6129

Thanks! I've found 30 medical conditions in my service records that contribute to the onset of OSA and never realised that I completely overlooked anxiety, which is also in my active duty medical records. Now I have 31 medical conditions and 13 medications that I took in service that contribute to the onset of OSA from over 40 years ago. (This makes me think of that 99 bottles of beer on the wall song - "You take one down and pass it around."). Even though tinnitus is one of them, it contributes to feeling anxious. The dizziness, or vertigo, headaches and tinnitus definitely makes me more anxious - especially when my walking is already challenged - increasing the risk of falling. Wish me luck in my tinnitus and OSA claims.
Best of luck to you with this! Keep us posted
Any of those 30 ptsd cfs copd ibs hearing tinnitus or gerd ?
@@combatdouglas1306 I have three of those, GERD, Tinnitus, IBS. and would be glad to answer any questions about other contributing factors I've discovered.
@@combatdouglas1306 Not the COPD, or PTSD. No hearing loss, but have the tinnitus and dizziness and gerd. Most of my current conditions that I had back in the service are pain in different body parts causing fragmented sleep and inability to find a comfortable sleeping position, then the rhinitis/sinusitis causing breathing problems and then the opioids, muscle relaxants, steroids etc. causing the
throat muscles to collapse and tissues to swell when sleeping. Some head impacts - possible low level tbi symptoms from that, a few medical complications from back surgery, heavy anaesthesia, TMJ, repeated Ear infections, Bruxism and Insomnia too. Almost the whole menu.
How about listing the 31 ?
I’ve had tinnitus for over a decade with zero side effects. I do eat well, stay active and take vitamins.
That is great to hear. Thank you for watching
I had no idea you did nexus and dbq. I will contact you for my SA that was denied. May need new nexus. Thnks
Yes sir keep us posted and Thank you for watching!!!
Filed for insomnia secondary to tinnitus 2/24, along with your nexus letter. Had the C&P exam 3/24, still waiting from the VA as of today 6/24!!!
That is crazy to hear. Please keep us posted!
Yes keep us posted as the new rules state you can not claim insomnia secondary to anything. Just curious if you were lucky enough to get in must in time.
@@tjpont2149 Was granted a 0% rating 6/17/24!
Great video .. question.. already service connected for tinnitus & insomnia..diagnosed for anxiety, depression , sleep apnea but not service connected.. what do you have to do to show tinnitus or insomnia as intermediate step for the anxiety, depression, sleep apnea?
Hey sir I am so glad you enjoyed the video and I am sorry to hear you are struggling with those conditions. I have several videos on these conditions and their connections that may be helpful. Beyond that from an admin standpoint have you reached out to your local VSO that may be helpful
I finally got rated at 50% for migraines secondary to tinnitus 🎊 🎉
Sorry to hear you are suffering from this but glad you got connected. Thank you for watching
Damn how did you pull that off I'm seeing plenty of Vets on FB Disability groups that had headache logs Diagnosis personal statements, nexus from private doctor an still get Denied headaches 2nd to Tinnitus
@@eli-jr2148 It took me 2 years and 2 HLR’s!
Thank got all those symptoms cuz
Glad you found it helpful!! Thank you for watching!
I recently made request per Directive 1134 asking my VA primary care physician to write Nexus letter for Insomnia secondary to my SC tinnitus. He replied, 'I could not find any study that shows that tinnitus leads to insomnia.' I have seen many articles the relationship tinnitus and insomnia as well as VA HLR cases granting veterans insomnia rating. I will have to seek private provider for the Nexus.
Did you consider providing him some of those articles?
NO. With the many articles establishing a connection and the number of HLR cases granting veterans did not think be necessary
What about Meniere's disease? I've heard that being mentioned as a secondary condition related to tinnitus
Meniere's is often related to noise exposures. Thank you for watching
my tinnitus is a ringing sound like in a well and the banging and clanging sound you would hear inside an MRI tube. trouble sleeping. VA has rated me service connected 10% and also service connected bilateral hearing loss 60% that has seeming worsened so i have filed for an upgrade...
Best of luck to you and thank you for watching
I appreciate your video offering help, however, you refer to medical publications and say they are good for us to go look at (time stamp 4:53), yet you don't include any links to the articles that you are reading on your computer screen. It would be nice of you to list the links to the articles you referenced in this video, so we can read them for ourselves? Thanks
You can look them up and click on the links if you would like. That is why I provide the names of the articles so that you may independently do that if you choose to do so.
I just received a 10% disability for tinnitus with a 0% for left ear hearing loss (my right ear is not too far behind). Besides monetary compensation is there anything that is available with regards to being eligible for VA care (e.g. hearing aids).
What is the purpose of giving a 0% rating for loss of hearing and what is its implications with regards to benefits and compensation.
If the hearing becomes worse over time, can I ask for an increase in rating?
I now have an eye exam/review coming up for my double vision. The only evidence I have of the double vision is my personal physician confirming it. Nothing is in my military medical records. Can you give me your opinion as to why the VA is willing to do an eye exam? It seems that this would be just as hard to tie it to my service and thus deny it like the other conditions that I applied for.
When I applied for the above conditions (in addition to several other which were denied) I forgot to list an occasional dizzy spell. Should I put in for another claim or use the appeal process and add it there?
I am not to sure about that sir. Have you followed up with your healthcare provider regarding the hearing aid? If it worsens over time you can always request an increase if you are an eligible veteran. You may want to follow up with a legal professional about this for clarification.
Mine is not a buzz or hiss.
It's a _CONSTANT_ 10 kHz almost sinewave tone.
I am sorry to hear this sir!
@@prestigeveteranmedical I appreciate the kind words.
It is really annoying. Mine sounds like when you hear electrical powerlines or radiowaves.
I am sorry to hear this! Thank you for watching
Mine sounds like a high voltage transformer buzzing really high pitched sound. Really drives me up a wall at times. I have to aleep with a tv on or music playing to get a bit of relief to sleep.
@@chrishensley33 Yes! That’s a great way to describe it! Yes, I sometimes listen to rain on YT to fall asleep.
Just went to a p&t for tinnitus and hearing loss . And yes it does get worse with age . You mam hit on every subject the examiner had for me . And i also agree sleep apnea is not related . It dont make sense
Thank you for the feedback and thank you for watching!
Steps, I need simple, plain English steps on where to start, who to call to help me navigate the path to getting this all resolved.
Call your local county Veterans Service officer and they should be able to assist
would you please post the links to your articles that you quote I paid for your DBQ and nexus statment for migraines with the articles as evidence and was denied I am going to file a supplemental claim but i need new information
Hey Sir I am unable to do that but you should be able to find them by searching the internet. That is why I provide the article titles. Best of luck to you
currently 10% for tinnitus. My fear is that if I file for other conditions that the VA might re-evaluate me and I could lose my rating. How often does this happen? Thanks.
I have no idea to be honest with you. You may want to follow up with a legal professional on this
I got a DBQ and IMO from Prestige trying to get my migraines secondary to tinnitus. My VA neurologist said there isn't a connection and my C&P examiner said there is no evidence that tinnitus causes migraines. When my examiner told me that I knew I wouldn't get rated.
Thank you for the opportunity. Please keep us posted on the outcome
