  • In the video Leah provides an overview of how insomnia and tinnitus are considered in the context of VA disability. She explains that insomnia, defined by the DSM-5, is a mental health condition rated according to the schedule of mental health ratings, with specific diagnostic criteria including dissatisfaction with sleep quality and issues like difficulty in falling or staying asleep. Leah emphasizes the possibility of insomnia being service-connected directly if diagnosed during service or secondarily due to other conditions like tinnitus. She cites several studies highlighting the link between tinnitus and mental health issues in veterans. Finally, Leah briefly discusses the VA's rating system for mental health disorders, which ranges from 0% for mild symptoms to 100% for total occupational and social impairment. She advises veterans to consult legal professionals for claim filing and strategy, and suggests discussing these issues with healthcare providers for potential support in claims.

Insomnia and I are very close friends. Some nights I can't go to sleep until 3-4 am and have to be up by 7 and other nights I fall asleep pretty easily by 10ish but wake up at 3-4 am still having to get up at 7. Seriously makes it difficult the next day at work to concentrate or even stay awake.

I have all of this. So it is real hard to be in public situations for me. But I had no idea all this information was tied together. Here I have been struggling for years with all this and just thought that is the way I have to try and live.

Just recently underwent a Sleep APNEA study after the evaluation the doctor recommended a C-PAP for me, but I was surprised to see that insomnia was never entertained I wrote a letter to the physician addressing just that, now they are asking me to come in for a study on insomnia. Thx for the info.

  • @paulbeavers5270

I have really bad tinnitus and am service connected. Filed for insomnia had nexus and dbq from doctors and VA basically told me to pound sand. So sick in dealing with VA now hiring a attorney to fight them.

  • @coachvee7719

Omg they have denied me several times for tinnitus even though I’m diagnosed, in the program, have hearing aids, insomnia and everything you’ve stated connecting it.

  • @2short1968

    Great information thank you....👌

  • @jtbrown5801

    Thank you great information

  • @potpie67

    Thank you y'all are great...

  • @bryanhough

Rated for tinnitus, just denied insomnia secondary because the examiner stated I didn’t appear tired on a video exam. 3 cups of coffee and an energy drink, I would hope not

  • @siddkid3169

I believe any chronic "issues" could lead to insomnia. Your best friends are DBQ'S. They will help you focus in on your symptoms. 😊

  • @bigtime911

Tinnitus serviced connected. Secondary mental health currently in pipeline

  • @marvinjenkins4901

Great video. Can a insomnia diagnosis come from a At Home sleep study?

  • @kokicubano

I suffer from both of the above and have developed diabetes now as well. Obviously my poor sleeping habits led to weight gain and poor food habits as well. Is there a link between them as there is for sleep apnea? Thanks

  • @BornToFly4031

I just got awarded 30% for Insomnia (unspecified) secondary to tinnitus. Of course, I had to undergo the mental health C & P and the process took 10 months from filing.

  • @001Hank

I have ratings for tinnitus and ptsd and have sleep apnea no VA rating yet. I do think I have insomnia. I have lots of those symptoms you talk about. Would I qualify for an Insomnia rating?

  • @davidbrandstatter4643

I was service connected for prostrate cancer a few years ago and elected to receive external beam radiation treatment for same. As a result of the radiation treatment I experience residual urinary frequency (nocturia). What are your thoughts on claiming VA disability for insomnia secondary to the nocturia caused by the prostrate cancer? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

  • @JerryKeizer-up5nn

I have these conditions in addition to constant neck pain. Also frequent periods of numbness in my arms and hands... mostly the left (probably twice as much as the right). Also have frequent bad headaches. Service connected 10 for hearing loss, 10 for tinnitus, zero for headaches and 10 for each knee. Total is 40 percent. I currently see a chiropractor for the neck pain among other things...hip pain, lower back pain and tingling in arms.

  • @wallys7016

Off topic: I’m going for an MRI in a couple of weeks on my back. Saw a doctor and she did a reflex test and it wasn’t normal. Looked at my notes and she thinks it could be myelopathy. I’m 20% for intervertebral disc syndrome and 10% radiculopathy. If that’s the case is that something that can be claimed in addition to my back? What section of the CFR can I find more on this? Can you shed any light on this for me please? I was reading up on it and it said can cause paralysis or even death so it’s worrisome. Thanks for your time.
