- in this video Leah provides an in-depth guide for veterans undergoing an ankle pain Compensation and Pension (C&P) exam for VA disability. Leah discusses how ankle injuries can be service-connected, either through direct injuries during active duty or secondarily due to other service-connected disabilities. She explains the process of scheduling and preparing for the C&P exam, emphasizing the importance of understanding and reviewing the Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) sent by the VA. Leah provides a detailed walkthrough of the ankle condition DBQ, highlighting key sections such as medical history, symptoms, functional impairment, range of motion assessments, joint stability, surgeries, and the impact of the condition on the veteran’s life and work.

Thank you for watching sir.

@@prestigeveteranmedical also I've been getting steroids in my back for 20 years and those shot are know to cause GERD and constipation

Good afternoon, I had my appointment c&p exam appt for my knee and ankle and the exam didn't used the measurement tool for my knee he only did my ankle. I know there a some da from talk about a statement on how the exam went. What should I do? On this matter
Do you have a VSO? That might be someone you could speak to about this
I had chronic ankle issue's from my time in service(USMC,86-92),never went to sickbay unless I was ordered to do so,high ankle sprains multiple times on both ankles which is documented 6 times in my medical records,I have had issues ever since and have been receiving care on both ankles since 2009.First claim was submitted in 2010 when I learned about the disability process, lost all appeals after 10 years of waiting, there excuse" not service connected due to insufficient evedenvce that my injuries were aggravated by military service..WTF !!! Just had another CP exam and I think this went well, fingers crossed.
Best of luck to you on this sir and keep us posted. Thank you for watching!
Just got granted 10%,now to get the other ankle rated..Upsets me that I had crappy examiners with my first attempts who failed to examine my ankles correctly.
@josephestrada5214 were you given back pay at the 10% rate for the years that have passed? Usually they will go all the way back to the date of your 1st claim.
to get 20% for ankle if you have plantar flexion at less then 5 degree will that get you 20% or does the same anle also have to have dorsiflexition ROM limitations as well?
That is a great question! You might want to discuss with a legal professional like a VSO. Thank you for watching
Ms Leah , thanks for your infomation. I just had a C&P exam. I've had osteoarthritis of the left knee for over 30 years I also have a post-op ACL tear in the same knee I currently have a 50% service-connected disability rating for this knee over the past 10 months I begin having issues with my left ankle I was being treated for gout but I felt that there was something other than gout going on with my ankle because he was unstable and giving way I was finally able to convince medical staff to give me an MRI turns out I have a grade 2 sprain of the anterior talofibular ligament I also have a grade-one sprain of the posterior talofibular ligament also a longitudinal tear of the peroneus brevis tendon I file the secondary claim for my ankle connecting it to my knee I was referred to physical therapy based on abnormal gait mechanics do you feel I filed my claim under proper circumstances , I would appreciate your feed back ?
Sounds reasonable for sure. Meniscal gears are know to cause instability and gait changes but I suppose it just depends on your records and what the examiner thinks it that makes sense. Best of luck and keep us posted
@@prestigeveteranmedical Thank you for all of your valuable information !

Just did an examination and informed the FNP that I have arthritis on both knees and both feet. She pulled really hard on my right foot on purpose. Have been in the military since the early 90s. We were always informed not to say anything.
Best of luck on this and thank you for watching
If I'm unsuccesful on my secondary ankle to knee osteoarthitis and the affects it has on the ankle and hip. I found this article on Pubmed , Can I use it as new evidence as it decribes my condition spot on , for a supplimental claim ?
You would want to check with a legal professional as to the specifics of what is considered new and relevant evidence. Thank you for watching!
@@prestigeveteranmedical Thank You !
@@jeffery2350 You are very welcome sir
I don't ever get any of this information before a c & p exam, I just get when to show up
Sorry to hear that and thank you for watching
Just curious. Im rated at 10 percent for right but rated 0 percent for left. Can i get rated for the left one even though it was 0 percent when active?. Its gotten worse. I should have went in to the va more but i kept putting it off. Can i get an increase for the left one?
If you believe your condition has worsened tog can always request this.
You’re not supposed to break your foot In karate you’re supposed to break the BOARDS!! Lolol silly goose!
Jokes aside thanks for the video! Very informative! :)
100% agree!!! Big hugs and thank you for watching
Has anybody had the VA ro add body parts to a claim. I filed for arthritic knees and hips and they added ankles and back. What are they doing?
Hopefully giving you more connections if they are related to service!
My nurse practitioner didn’t use anything and didn’t ask too many questions. Granted, I was being seen for five conditions. I guess I’ll see when I get my decision.
Best of luck and keep us posted!
What was the results?
Question. The C&P examiner stated I have a "strained ligament" but not Achilles Tendinopathy as the xrays and private medical provider stated.
How do you challenge a changed diagnosis?
Have you spoken to an attorney or other accredited legal professional about this?
Question: Can you me a copy of the ankle DBQ?? thanks in advance
I cannot make you a copy but you can go to the VA's website and download one
I had an ankle C&P exam yesterday and they didn't use anything to measure it with or do the motion test 3 times. Also, I have a several other issues going on that they did not take a look at. Is it normal to only look at one item at a time? I was sort of expecting them to go over everything in one exam.
Hi sir the VA may have only sent them a request for the ankle. You may want to call the VA and inquire
US Army Veteran with 70% total and 20% on my right ankle....chronic arthritis. My range of motion is decreasing as the years go
Is 20% the highest for this condition?
Hi sir I am sorry to hear this. I am not sure you will want to check with a legal professional on that.
AIRBORNE-- feet ankles knees hip and back in long run
Thank you for watching sir!
Please pray, send good vibes, wish me luck...I've got to get "new and relevant evidence", new current diagnosis' and thoroughly notated visits for old and new claims...I'm dreading it and need help but can't afford private care or attorneys etc. - thank you all. God SAVE the USA!
Best of luck to you. Remember that accredited VA attorneys do not have any upfront fees so that makes them easily accessible for veterans. Thank you for watching
That form is horrid.
😱😱
If you provide a nexus letter will the supporting studies and the va drs disagree, how is that possible, They are disagreeing with established case studies that support your disability. I guess we just NOD with DENORVO review because the va dr is ignoring established case study and supporting evidence that you provided. But let's be honest here. The VA doctor does not work for the veteran. They work for the VA and they work to try to discredit the veterand deny his claim.
Each examining medical professional can have a different opinion or interpretation of the individual specifics of the case. Always best to follow up with an accredited legal professional to look at your options
@@prestigeveteranmedical Actually you can file a Notice of Disagreement with DRO and an SR level rater will rereview your record again. I did it twice in 2012 and got my rating. You don't need to contact a lawyer so quick.
@@christophert7251 I never said that someone should contact a lawyer. There are also free options like VSOs. I’m not in the business of giving claims filling advice such as what you just suggested as it is a federal offense. This is why, when individuals ask me these types of questions I tell them to seek council from an accredited representative.

Of course you're right. The first step is to get a vso. If it weren't for my vso I'd be sleeping in a ditch somewhere with a bad ankle. And after three surgeries last year I can tell you that you'd better have a serious problem or you're not going to get paid much.
