This is a great video for anyone uncomfortable on a sportbike. There shouldn’t be pressure on the wrist you nailed it. All I ride is sportbikes and have never been uncomfortable. For this closure I’m 5ft2.
If you get it, you get it! 😉
Yup. I rode cruisers for years...sore ass and back on most over time. My experiences now are exactly how you described it. I'm 6'1", sit close to the tank, and there's no actual weight on my wrists while riding. And, sport bikes are WAY more maneuverable.
If you get, you get it! 😉 I hope you are doing well, Randy.
I love all the autumn colors. Awesome day to go for a ride on the bike. You wouldn't be able to ride for a long time in Asia. Very hot
If it's hot, I ride in the early morning or late in the evening. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. Eric
the smaller CC sport bikes are so much fun to whip around. I know a few guys that do the hugging the tank thing, seems to work for them too.
They really are fun to toss around in the corners.
I have explained this a thousand times at least. People can not believe that I can do a thousand mile day on a sportbike and not be completely destroyed. I tell them about your body being able to absorb bumps better being bent. You need to know how to ride a sportbike properly. It is like working out, more you do it, the easier it becomes. I personally find the more aggressive clip ons more comfortable. Halfway between upright and attack wear me out the most. I have also found that only guys that have never ridden a sport bike or only ridden a friends once are the ones that will argue the most.
This was a great video, and hopefully will teach others.
I've had this conversation a few hundred times, and no one believes me either. 😂
A few people and I were actually talking about your ZX4RR yesterday and how fun it would be on a track day, as well as your fitting on the bike. What great timing - and well organised! Hugging the tank gives you so much more control, it's a great tip. Interesting run through and description, thanks mate!
I'll say my descriptions and analogies are colorful! Lol I had no idea any of you good folks were discussing that bike at the event.
Never driven a motor bike but it looks like fun.
@worldlife9834 Maybe take a MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) class? They supply the bikes. And give it a whirl. You may find your next best activity! 👌
I’ve tried this same bike and I loved it! I prefer a more neutral stance personally but it wasn’t uncomfortable at all. 🤙
I tip my lid to you for trying it. It sure is a fun bike to ride.
Now that's prior planning 😊. As to your topic, the RE has semi forward controls, which I found quite comfortable, not crunched up, not laid back. Cheers
That's great to hear. A completely different riding position than your RT was. I'm glad it's more comfy. See you in 2 days.
I find that the more powerful sportsbikes (750cc bikes and up) create fatigue much quicker than the smaller capacity sportsbikes due to the extra acceleration and braking required to pull them up (with the extra weight). I can cruise around on my little Ducati 600SS putting it through some fun bends all day. Yet when I had my Aprilia RSV, after half a day doing the same thing, the body was much sorer compared to the 600.
Matt, I never really thought about that perspective. You make a solid point. Thanks for commenting.
Nice to see you on the bike mate, I have ridden both, cruisers and sport tourers and and I am much more comfortable on the sport tourer. My back does not cope with the cruiser. Weird but true. 😎
My feelings exactly. The impact hitting a ump on my spine sitting straight up is terrible. I'm so glad to see you posting again. Ride swift, ride safe. Eric
Fantastic info mate, Rochelle will find this interesting in relation to her dilemma.
No shot. This is any help to her! CeeeVeeeeOoooo is the word that comes to mind. 😉
I’ve only ridden one sport bike - a Triumph Sprint ST. Had it for a week and was never comfortable on in. The pegs were too far back which caused continual cramps in my hips. And I found some neck strain from my head not being straight up and down.
Just didn’t like it.
Sure was some pretty autumn landscapes you were riding through. 😊
Fall in our neck of the woods (yours too) is the best time of the year for riding!
I have to admit, I wouldn't have thought that 6'4 could be comfortable on a sport bike... until now... 😁👍
I'm small try at getting folks to think outside their comfort zone. I'm just an OG squid sharing a few thoughts.
I use a long tang Cramp Buster on the inside of the accelerator grip and control it with my thumb. I can sit straight up with my fingers in a claw like position on the accelerator. This is great for comfort on long straight aways. It's a shame that it doesn't have cruise control.
That cramp buster is on my list of items to talk about. They really are great. Thank you for sharing your experience. Eric
LOL @ the gynecologist visit riding position! As someone with joint issues, I find that having multiple foot placements really helps - and yeah, legs splayed out and in front of you can get awkward, but I have my highway pegs lower so my feet aren't so high in the air.
I thought that was a good analogy! 😂
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures It was! :D I thought about that on today's ride, LOL.
Great video Eric, I might have to get my ass on one of those kinda bikes and give it a go.
It certainly can hurt. 😉
That looks like no part of Australia I have ever seen. And, I do believe you are riding on the wrong side of the road. Hahahaha. Nice video, Eric.
Ha! Just krakalaking along with my silly content! Thanks for stopping by.
You’ve changed my perspective on sport bike riders… well, until one of them flies past me in an irresponsible and dangerous manner! ✌️😂
😂😂😂 Well, there's that, too! 🏍💨🦑
I rode agressive style bikes for a long time. I find the wind on your chest helps relieves weight on my wrists. Legs hugging the tank is for sure the way to do. I never complained about seats or tailbones until I started riding upright. Just saying.
Bingo! The impact on your spine riding straight up is huge on many bikes. Thanks for dropping a comment, Jerry.
Funny you put this video out, we were just talking about this today at lunch. We started talking about the Ninja 400 and wondering how someone your height is comfortable riding it. Guess this answered my question!!!
Okay, that's kind of weird on the same day. Thanks for commenting, GB.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures it was kinda weird
my ninja used to have bars above the triple tree, makes all the difference., Honestly I rode that 700miles in one night stock so any bike can be comfortable for sure!
There ya go. I half expect to see a ZX14 on your garage someday. 😉
Next week... I'll be 6-4 ... 🎉🍰
Being tall has its disadvantages. I rarely fit on any bike. I would like to think Weare all just perfect heights. 👌
The trick for us older guys being less fatigued on sporty bikes is due to us stopping to pee more often 🤣
hahahaha !!! Shhhh.....
Bwahahaha! Good one, Tom!
I used to lay on the tank and put my feet on the back pegs. The pure adrenaline riding a crotch rocket back it the day….nothing like it. I’m just not as flexible as I once was. Good info my friend!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, RJ. Thank you for the support.
If you like the bike you will adapt. My bike got many bad reviews for the riding position. I adapted to the peculiar riding position and was able to enjoy the ride. It is all with the rider willing to adapt!
100% correct. I think the takeaway from this video is that folks get a mindset that's hard to break regarding riding positions. I'm just gently making small suggestions to think outside the box. Thanks for sharing your experience.
For long distance comfort is important.glad it feels comfortable to you. 💕NonnaGrace 🐓
It really is important for an enjoyable trip. Thank you for stopping by.
Buddy at 63 I still find my ZX 14-R the most comfortable bike to go on for any long distance riding even though your in a sports position belly up to the tank is the way to go not stretched out, mind you the zx14r's are a long bike so may be not on the 400. Powerful sports bike are the best in the fun factor man nothing can beat it.
You are one of the few who actually understand that sitting straight up impacts your spine. Thank you for sharing your experience. Eric
My thoughts are if one has only ever ridden a big cruiser motorbike and never a sports man they are missing out on what acceleration really is or been able to turn in a corner. Even going between my M109-R to the ZX14-R the 109 feels like it's lawn mower powered lol.@@KrakensGarageandAdventures
I rode a naked bike for a bit and it was a fairly comfortable ride. Now I didn’t do hours on it but, for an afternoon ride it was nice. I would tell people it’s not a shopping cart. Don’t put your weight on the handle.
It sure sounds like you get the points I'm talking about here. Certainly not for everyone, but it's worth a try.
The only problem I had with my CBR600RR was in my wrist and shoulders.
Hope you’re having a blast in Australia.
Sounds like you were riding on your arms. You need to use your core and legs to hold you up and keep all the weight off of your arms. This of course is a guess without actually seeing you ride.
I'm sorry to hear this. Take a look at @liter plus reply below. He's spot on! We're having the time of our lives.
I'm sorry to hear this. Take a look at @liter plus reply below. He's spot on! We're having the time of our lives.
I picked up a Ninja 400 last year (loads of fun) and I'd love to ride the ZX4RR to see how it compares from a comfort standpoint.
I hope to cross paths with you so you can have a go on it. The ZX4 is one of the best values on the market!
The "short" answer 😂
😂😂😂
I have always wanted to try one of those bikes but never had the chance so it's good to know at 6'2 it's possible to ride on and not be cramped.
If we cross paths and I'm on this bike, I'll toss you the keys.
Glad it's comfy! I always worry about my back when riding bikes like that where you're leaned forward. That, and my half helmet. My eyes water when riding my KZ as it is!
I broke my lower back on snowmobile 30 years ago. Riding sportbikes is far easier on it than riding a cruiser style bike. Especially with forward controls where you can not use your legs as shock absorbers.
@@LiterPlus Sorry you went through that! It's interesting though - I cannot use my legs as shock absorbers, so the cruiser riding position fits me better [my knees are pretty much shot].
Try to look at it this way. If you're on your Harley sitting straight up. And your bike hits a pothole. After your suspension does what it can, your spine takes the impact. If you're in the boyscout crapping position, your arms and legs take up a lot of the impact vs. your spine. I hope my thoughts help.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures That makes sense - it's more the leaning forward with weight on the wrists that would get to me.
Heck ya,sport bikes are great 👍. They certainly aren't for everyone but man are they ever fun .
Just some more random thoughts from an OG squid! 🏍💨🦑😂
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures Hey man I get it 100% ..I know you came from those crazy 70's and 80's two stroke RD weapons. The squid thing is in your blood.
Nads against the tank? I’ve seen tanks, mostly the ones I rode back in the day, with indents in the that area.
I had a death wobble in the dirt wearing shorts and ended up burned by the points cover on my thigh. I was never able to reproduce the thigh contacting the points cover so I chalked it up to the bike doing its thing and I was along for the ride.
Good stuff but I’m not getting back on a pocket rocket anytime 😂
Thank you for stopping by. I'm just doing what I can while my body still lets me. I've only had one death wobble in my lifetime, and that was enough for me.
Mega-squid rides again! And loves it! Allow me to recommend a CZcams channel called Bikes I Like. He’s got a couple hundred or more visual renderings of what various sized riders look like on many specific motorcycles. He’s an Australian gent and works very hard at his videos.
I'll check it out! Thank you for watching and the recommendation! Enjoy your fall riding, Guy.
Great bike
It really is a great bike. It's the most fun I've had on any bike on the last 10 years.
Best bike ride
It really is an amazing bike!
Ok, twist my arm, I’ll come ride your Sportbike for at least an hour….😂
Bring it!
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures 😂🤣😂
Nice channel mate moz sent me 👍
Thank you for stopping by. My channel is all over the place, as I love all bikes. I met up with Moz for lunch a week or so ago. He's a good friend. Eric
Didn’t know if id me comfortable on the CBR125R I bought to ride to work. Actually not too bad but I wouldn’t be doing a 400klm trip. At $13 to fill the tank it ferries me to work and back for a month, at lightning speed 😂
For a commuter that's easy to whip around. And easy on the wallet, what not to like? Glad to hear your enjoying your CBR.
Comfort also is dependent on how many miles you're riding in a day and how many days in a row 🤷♀️
That is when I find the sportbike the best. I can crush twice as many miles on a sportbike over a cruiser and feel way better the next day. Your body absorbs the bumps far better in a bent position than straight up. Especially your back.
So true! I'm just suggesting a different style of riding that one may consider.
😀@@KrakensGarageandAdventures
Full size man. Hahahaha. Yep. You are indeed.
Nothing worse than a small Kraken! 😂🦑
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures hahaha. Difficult to clean.
Maybe this way I’ll get less pain in between my shoulder blades… On my Road King I get some but it’s nowhere near to the amount of pain I get riding the GSA… Maybe it has to do with posture I am afraid…
I'm sorry to hear the GS is giving you grief. I hope you find resolve. Get to riding, now that the weather has cooled off.
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures I did changes already hope for the best plus got rid of a cold in my back so🙄 go get em Dundee🤣🤣
I say to each their own 🤷♀️
Absolutely! But, how do you know what you like of you don't try it? 🤔😉
I'd love to have more than one bike at a time, but have to be happy with just one (unless I hit it big with the lottery or sell 10 cows, lol)
@@KrakensGarageandAdventures
Here's the real question doze it have enough power to put the front wheel in the air? It's no rz350 I know but just wondering if you try it yet lol.
It's no RZ350 for sure. I haven't tried lifting the front wheel yes, as I'm still breaking her in. I'll get back to you on this one. 😉
