Amazing 👏
Thank you Sir
Thrilling account.Am reminded of visit to our Armd Brigade HQ in a rest house in Kalaswala, on MRL,in 1972,as a 2/lt.It was a night of 'Rang ralian', a dining out for the Brigade Comd, when the now-taboo liquor flowed like the canal water.
Sir, you are a great storyteller
What a beautiful narration
Your clarity and being logical and against the nonsense of dogma on all issues you describe is simply loveable
My father served in Sindh irrigation and all you said is absolutely true
It was the golden era of 1960s
Wah Sir !!
Sir, while the documentary on Canal Rest Houses is excellent, it overlooks the rich history of the Forest Department's rest houses. The first man-made forest, Changa Manga, was established in 1860, and rest houses were constructed in every irrigated plantation and hill forest. The Forest Department itself was founded in 1886. The British built these rest houses in hill forests at intervals of approximately 10 miles, maintaining them in good condition for many years. Many of these Forest Rest Houses still keep older British-era records, including guest logs and remarks, which are historical treasures in themselves. Unfortunately, these historic rest houses in hilly area have deteriorated since the previous government's decision to transfer their control to the Tourism Department, leading to their decline.
An impeccable documentary featuring occasional still images and a continuously smiling face that keeps you focused on the subject throughout.
I had the previlage to stay in a "A Class Rest House" for one week when I was 10 to 12 years old and still remember that as a fond memory. I saw and used very first time a WC (sitting commode" (LOL) in that rest house in ~1973. I hope and wish the rest house is still there and could see it it one more time.
I saw your interview in one podcast and joined your channel to learn about history. Respect for your hard work.
Same
Graceful old buildings amid ancient trees. Fascinating!
Yes, indeed.
Wonderful work sir!👍you never cease to amaze with different historical content every time. Apart from canal rest houses, forest rest houses of irrigated plantations and hilly areas of muree, kahuta, kotli sattian and in kpk mostly built in british period are treat to watch as well.
Forest rest houses are a good idea. I might do one on the few I have seen.
This was an amazing narration... Thanks for sharing..
Very well explained. I remember a rest house in Multan on Bahwalpur Road. That rest has Department office and rest house. It was in better condition.
But I agree with you that the systematic loot and plunder in all the Departments of government has brought things to lowest levels.
there should be some words about forest rest-houses. typically in Rawalpindi district. like Dhanoi and Punjarr and many more
Great listen to you 👏 you can't remember us.
Once again a fascinating narration of the bygone days. Funny, that I have visited the Head Islam rest house near Luddan. It was well maintained and in use of the Irrigation Department. It was in a leafy location as you described.
26:36 The statement you're quoting here is recorded in Punjab District Gazetteers, Volume 25-A, Gujrat District (with maps), 1921, page 92, (Lahore: Government Printing, Punjab).
Wating for this episode. Canal Rest house may/will be a FIVE STAR Hotel during 1920. A dream place ,whenever I pass by a rest house ON JHUNG BRANCH
Great..
Marvellous piece of research work!! Thanks for sharing these findings.
Wonderful as always. Best wishes from India
Thank you very much.
Though a Bengali, I understand Hindi well and while hearing your narration I forgot I am hearing your narration in Urdu!
His name was Jan Muhammad Abbasi, Amir JI
Sir There is a canal Rest house in Sheikhupura too, have you ever visited?
Though many canal rest houses in our Punjab have fallen in a state of disrepair or have been sold to influential persons for a pittance due to their prime location, there are several who are still well maintained. There is one in nearby Ropar which bears construction year of 1881 and has been maintained properly.
Our oldest canal rest houses are about 1900.
Excellent as always
Thank you very much.
Salman Sahib, you are documenting the history of dwindling buildings and places. Great work.
Thank you very much, sir.
Sir ye Bamba wala rest house jaisa same hamare yaha bhi hai
Jan Mohammad Abbasi was JI candidate against ZAB
Many times there were subordinate rest houses for the stay of the chief or the exen staff.
Sub Engineer ko bhul gye Hain ap
jaan muhammad abbasi
Thank you for the clarification. You have jogged my memory. Qurban is the son, I've met who told me the story. But since we called him Abbasi sahib, I forgot his name.
During my each visit from Lahore to Islamabad I stop at location 183 N and enjoy the serenity and antiquity of this rest house locally known as bungalow No 38.
It has a little canal in front of it.
Where exactly is this? On Gt road ?
I think you've got it!
Would love to watch your insight regarding brahaminabad ( Al Mansora )
Okay. One day.
Even today, gora's are the same. Work on time and party later.
