Hi Everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
This time I'm taking a step away from garment sewing for a week to make myself a sling bag to tote my huge water bottle. I did make a few mistakes, and I did have to rework things a second time after I saw how it was turning out. But in the end I have a fun bag that will work for what I need .

You did an excellent job with a pattern that was way too complicated than it needed to be. The designer of the pattern needs to look into youtube bag makers. I would have been so much easier to put the zipper into a gusset, then use the gusset for the sides of the bag, and do the zipper panel first, then build the bag around that.

OMG!! My next project is making some cosmetics bags from a Simplicity pattern and it asks for the same number of layers. I've made quick, little hip packs, but nothing with 3 layers. Now, I know where the pitfalls can be. Thanks!

That's a huge and heavy water bottle, a great benefit to have water with you on a long day! I have a suggestion for the ends of the zippers, maybe grommets, like when you make jeans? They might help?

I made this pattern. If it wasn’t for my son for Christmas I would have thrown it in the UFO pile lol. I persevered and it turned out nice. I will never make it again. I made it out of black canvas fabric and quilt cotton lining.
OMG this was absolutely worth watching, the directions are so confusing, and watching your video helped me from throwing this away with total frustration. The worst was when I finished it, it did not fit a Pickleball paddle, so I went back and adjusted the pattern which worked out perfectly. Thank you for helping me through the rough spots.

I purchased this pattern during one if the $1.99 sales at Joann and immediately had regrets because of the long (and expensive) list of notions needed. Yours turned out great but I will probably pass my pattern on to a family member.

You are brave.. That pattern was a bear. I have made garment bags, duffle bags and tapestry attaché cases where I designed my own linings w/ pockets, etc. But this I would not touch w/ a 10' pole. Good job, but ouch, that pattern.

Canabalizing thrift store bags is such a money saver, but beware that some zippers might've been basted on with permanent glue. Ask me how I know.
