Hi Everyone and Welcome Back To My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
This top goes together pretty easily in general. No zipper or buttons. There are no big surprises here, but I do make at least one substitution. I hope you like it!!

Your channel.
You are so welcome!
Your blouse is beautiful , Marie.
Oh thank you!
Nice blouse! Really enjoyed watching you sew this.
Thank you Della!
Excellent video! So many great sewing tips learned by watching it. Your videos are wonderful tutorials for those of us who don't have a lot of experience garment sewing. The pattern isn't one I'd normally buy, but after watching this video, it will go onto my pattern list for a future buy. I really like the idea of having a flannel shirt that doesn't look like a typical pattern shirt whatsoever. Thank you for listing all your sewing notions in the video notes section. 🥰
Another super video. So glad I found your channel. The fabric is beautiful.
Thank you!
Thank you! I was having so many issues with the collar, you're an absolute lifesaver!
Glad I could help!
I’m so glad I found your channel !!
The top came out so cute ! Loved the fabric! Great idea on using the broadcloth for the facing. I would have never thought to do that. I also would not have thought you could change the pattern piece for the sleeve to make it fit the fabric you had. I’m learning so much from you!
Thank you for all your hard work!!
You are so welcome! Thank you for taking the time to watch :)
I like this one!
I would like to see you sew a velvet long skirt in black or red for the holidays. Just a suggestion. I saw a lady wearing one in a music video and she had a lace white blouse and a white shawl. It was stunning. Thank you for all you do for us.
It's a really adorable top. I love the poppies. And thank you for the tip about using twill tape rather than elastic in the shoulders.
Thank you!
You are a fabulous instructor. I would not have thought to use flannel; it turned out beautifully! Sometimes I just like to listen to your lovely voice as you patiently explain every step. :)
I think the sleeves are perfect, not too poofy.
Yes! Even though I took out a couple inches. Thank you for watching :)
You really pack a lot of tips in every make! I liked the using twill tape instead of elastic but I expected you to sew it directly on the fabric. I would never have thought to lace it through the casing. I was reminded of why I hate facings though: so much detailed work! But you do it so well. It really turned out nice. Also I wouldn't have thought to narrow the sleeve to fit the fabric. And that is why I end up with a pile of fabric on my table and no progress! Your pattern adjustments are so simple but not what comes to my mind when I'm trying to figure it out. Thanks for letting me look over your shoulder; I will get something to fit right yet!!
Oh my goodness, thank you so much!
Looks so nice on you, great.
Thank you. Super comfy too. :)
Very helpful video!! Love it!! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! :)
I sewed mine up today!! It took me all day lol it fits and I love it. Mine is a silky type fabric that is stretchy. Pink with white feathers printed on it. I was wondering how I hem it? I sewed it but it’s not very stretchy now.
Thank you again for the very helpful tutorial!!
Hugs from Scotland!!
@@delisaknight8522 Oh how fabulous! I just turned up the bottom (serged) edge about and inch and machine stitched it. If your fabric is silkier you may want to do it by hand. I'd love to see it, if you wanted to post a picture on the facebook group site
I am so excited to learn how to alter the pattern for the dart! Because they never hit at the right place for me! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Loved how this turned out!
Thanks!
Love the fabric. Cute comfortable top.
Thank you! 😊
I love it!❤️ You look lovely in it!
Thank you so much!!
Beautiful...
Thank you!
Very cute top, I live the flannel fabric!
Thank you! 😊
I love this pattern on you. Very flattering! Going to try this patter
Thank you! It is comfortable too 😁
Gorgeous fabric (not available in my country) en nice outcome! Btw you are living in Arcadia, God bless ❤
Gorgeous blouse. It fits perfectly and the poppies are lovely.
Thanks Jane. And it is so comfy 😊
this was great, i love your clear directions. Thank you :) PS. the top looks great
Thank you!!!
A really pretty shirt looks very comfy.😍
It is!
Very pretty blouse, Marie. In love the fit of this blouse. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing. I really enjoyed watching you construct this blouse and it looks so beautiful on you
Thank you so much!
Marvelous Marie, this top is really beautiful and I love it in the flannel. Perfect for autumn! It’s a very flattering shape, not too flared at the bottom, which is great! I got a couple of Big 4 patterns recently, inspired by you, and I plan to be as meticulous as you in the construction process. One of them is quite similar to this one, actually. I’ve made several big 4’s but my preference is indie, generally speaking. Love all you do!! ❤️
Hello Faith!! Thank you! Maybe I can find an Indie styled Big 4 pattern some time :)
@@mybucoliclife definitely. There are many ‘dupes’ I’m noticing. You’ve helped decode and demystify the ‘language’ of big 4 patterns so I’m feeling more inclined to use them more. Especially since there are so many to choose from and they are so much cheaper (when they’re on sale) than indie patterns! ❤️
Could you please demonstrate a full bust adjustment, if you haven't already? If you explain something, it is really crystal clear.
I'll try to do that next time. Thank you so much for watching!
Lovely top. I love the fabric! Nice adjustment to keep it from falling. It adds a nice detail to the top.
Thank you!
That's a keeper...love it...you are a bad influence Marie...I've lots of patterns and keep promising myself not to buy more, but....I like this one and how you changed the fabric and sizing is just genius...you turned a summer top into an autumn one...thanks for the knowledge, been lovely relaxing with you...xx
Hello Helen! This one goes together so fast you will love it!
I’ve made this twice, Once in silk with the flared sleeve and once in a knit. I had to about halve the shoulder elastic as the pattern has it way too long, but otherwise a go to pattern. It’s great having the sew alongs.
Oh how pretty! You know how I feel about shoulder elastic :) Thank you so much for watching!
Same. It was longer than the casing with no stretch
The blouse is beautiful, you are so talented and I always learn, thank you for these videos.
You are so welcome Edith! Thank you for taking the time to watch :)
That's one of my favorites you made. I like how you don't rush you find the best way. Looks professional everytime
You are so kind Linda. Thank you :)
It looks gorgeous!😍 I bet it's super comfortable. And no fastenings!👍 i am definitely going to try the thread method for turning a strap next time I make a sundress for my granddaughters - it looks as though it should be easier than pushing with a chopstick... Thanks for your excellent tutorials 🙏
Hi Mara!! Yes on the thread method. The hardest part is getting it started turning, After that easy breezy :)
I love all your videos and I am impressed how you just go with it and change what doesn’t work for you. Needed a ‘pick me up’ today, and your video was just right. 👍🏻
I just thought about the fact that before CZcams none of us would have known how great a sewer you are. 😁
Thank you so much! I also love that CZcams has really helped bring together so many truly kind people who can share the love of sewing. I hope you are having a beautiful day!
I so enjoyed this video because I think the blouse is adorable with all those red flowers. By the way I just finished Simplicity 8874. I was hesitant since it’s no my style. I made it midi length with short sleeves. I love it. It’s so comfy. Thank you again Marie for recommending it.
Oh good! I'm so glad you liked the knit dress. Yes! Very comfy. Would love to see it :)
First time watching, and love your manner, soothing calm voice, and expertise! Just one video and I learned multiple new techniques and tricks! Joined your FB page as well. Bodkins are new to me, and I've been sewing for decades! I need to get one or two, and wonder what you would recommend. Thank you!
Hello Nancy! Welcome :) WAWAK.com has a bodkin that is just over 3" called EZY-PULL. That's the one I use. Glad you found me :)
Very cute top and cute fabric. Annoys me when notches don't match since patterns are so expensive these days! Great video!! Thank you!
Thank you Michele!
Love your video and your tips and review. Just my opinion, I do prefer the anytime upload of your videos. We can still check out your facebook, but it would not have to be live.
Thank you Debbie! I am planning on going back to releasing regularly like before and maybe if it is something really special do a live, but not always. Thank you so much!
Another well explained sewing project - always look forward to your wonderful videos and your soothing voice. Such pretty fabric. I believe that you use a piece of leather with your hole punch but was wondering if you have a suggestion for something else you could use.
Thank you so much! I think you are asking for something besides leather? I suppose a piece of wood? The hole punch is sharp and will cut a hole in fabric if used without a barrier of something thick. I hope that is what you meant. :)
Thank you - that is exactly what I was asking.
Is that you and your Hubby singing in the opening? That song makes me smile every time. I’m a gal like you, living a little bit of a bucolic life here in my valley .and thank you so much for all the great tips. I thought I knew just about everything about sewing but every video I learn a new thing.
Hi Aribella! That is my father and my daughter Morgan singing. Aren't they cute? Tell me about your valley. I love the peaceful private life here. Thank you so much for watching again!! :)
@@mybucoliclife I LOVE the singing! ❤️
Really cute top on you. I think the little tie thing would drive me bonkers. I wonder if it can be left off.
Oh sure, Just don't make it. The tie is purely optional. I'm so glad you liked it :)
Hi. I have a question. It really doesn’t pertain to this video, but lately some of the fabric that I have purchased has the pattern stamped onto the material not in alignment with the grain. Does this happen to anyone else? How do you handle this? Line up by the pattern or by the grain? Split the difference? When the fabric is ordered, some suppliers won’t take it back. Thank you so much for all the information that you put out! I love your channel.
This is a problem. For me, it depend on how bad the print is skewed, what I can do with it. If it's only off by an inch or so I'll use it and line the grainlines by the print. If it is more than a few inches off it could be difficult for clothes.
Do you like it off the shoulders? I like flannel and the red and white. Great job
Not really. I'm more of an ON the shoulders kind of gal
Wondering why on the sleeve, wrist end, you turned under the serged edge inside the casing? Just not sure if I would make a mistake to leave it flat. Thanks. I bought the pattern yesterday to have it ready. Looking forward to making it.
Hello! So much of this process is just finding what works for you, and in my opinion there isn't a wrong way, just design options 😊 the pattern said to tuck the edge under and for this video I was trying to follow it, but there's nothing wrong with just turning up a surged edge. That's how I hemmed it. 😁
Was that a fusible woven interfacing or a fusible knit interfacing?
Hi Diane! It is a a pellon fusible. I believe it is called Basics. The bolt I have was priced at .99 per yard but I think it is 1.29 now. Very Very light weight.
What is the Low Bust Alteration video called?
czcams.com/video/iVvI_Hj9p-0/video.html
I thought it was just me. I made a cute top awhile ago, but gave it away because when I bent over, everyone could see down to my naval! Not a “see” I want to show.
😂 I really really understand that. Loving the gappage safety straps!
What, again, is the name of the interfacing?
Yes! I can’t see that, I was hoping she would say it out loud.
I'm sorry. My back up camera doesn't focus much. It is a pellon P44F fusible interfacing "basics" priced at 0.99 per yard on the bolt. Super light weight.
