The finished floor is B E A U T I F U L! It looked good before, but once finished, it was W O W! Good job scoring that hardwood and making great use of it!
My 100 year old house has pine flooring that has a lot of variation in it. Back then, wood floors were considered undesirable, carpets were desired. My floors were painted all around the edges with the centers being bare wood. Once I had them sanded, they turned out to be absolutely gorgeous. When I remodeled one of the rooms to be a couple of baths, I tore out all of that wood flooring and kept anything that might be usable. I've been using it for patching on the rest of the house. I've never really liked most of the wood floors that are installed in homes now because they're so uniform. I love the variations in wood. To me, that's what makes a wood floor beautiful.
Love that flooring, we have a sawmill and hardwood flooring mill in our community. Picked up a load of second hand hickory and installed whole first floor of sons farmhouse. Turned out beautiful.
Great job! There’s nothing better than real hardwood floors. We recently replaced about 1/2 of the carpet in our house with hardwood. As we save up, we’ll do the rest of the house in future years.
It’s really beautiful! I love the color variations and the “imperfections”…it looks like an old refinished floor, versus a new one. I’ll definitely keep this flooring in mind for a cabin I’m building ☺️.
Mike, I look forward to Saturday mornings watching your channel. It inspires me to work on my own weekend projects. The floors came out great. Hope to see more of the construction of your building. The cabinets saved you a ton of time. No need to apologize for them. They look fantastic in that space.
Man the floor rawked!! Dude it all has that old worldly thing going on. Not so perfect. That's better because it's like a human being. We ain't perfect!!
Really enjoyed this video, I have a space i had built with my new detached garage on the second floor. I have been pulling my hair out on what to do with the floor. Jumped on Marketplace and bam, found utility grade oak. Not as cheap as yours but its a start for me to keep shopping and its nice to see that you value your time sometimes it just makes more sense to bring in professionals or buy cabinets when you are on a project. I just retired and one thing i am learning, everyone things my time is free.
Hi the floor looks good once you get your furniture in there it will look fantastic keep up the good work love the videos Cliff from Logan city Queensland Australia
What a pop in the room! I'm such a wood fanatic! Seriously, I should give you all my contracts, for clients, when I had my business. I'm retired from the industry now. Excellent job!
@@50Acres I figured someone could utilize them. (Like you or your buddy) But, I can see, by your response, that you're good. I wish Sarah and yourself good luck, on your life ventures. Take care.
It's also called tavern grade. I used utility grade red oak for a rental property that I knew was going to get wrecked over an over, but wood made it easier for me later down the road as opposed to vinyl or carpet. I had to do a lot of picking and sorting but the cost savings initially and down the road made it well worth it. When the tenants moved out all I did was run a light scuff with the orbital sander and a few coats of poly and that was it. It cost me another $60 vs a few hundred or thousand dollars. I also filled the holes with wood filler and ran it perpendicular to the old subfloor. Nice job... you'll thank yourself later!!!
Hey buddy......the utility grade white oak flooring looks fantastic. We might have to try and track some of that down for the bedroom addition. You being far more talented in the wood working department could have made some beautiful cabinets for that space, but like you said if the look and cost you want can be achieved purchasing them, there is no harm in that. We love our Cabinets in our cabin and they allowed us to move on to the next project while staying inside a reasonable budget. Best wishes MIke
Thanks Jay, its worth looking into, pretty cheap solution especially if you sand ad finish yourself. I love the diamond now cabinets too, great value, super convenient.
Wow... what a great idea for restoring a old home or building with that flooring! Adds the character that an old building needs. I'll be up in your area in September purchasing a huge old abandoned mansion in Connersville. I'll give your buddy a call and see if you can make it over. Better get magic hammer out of retirement and save your elbow. Really like how the floor's turned out and what a great price!
Thanks for this! It's really interesting how those boards that look so bad individually can really look good once installed, filled, sanded and finished. I'll be keeping that "utility grade" material in mind!
Flooring turned out great, Mike ! Perfect for the building. Please tell Sean he did an excellent job finishing it. Cabinets turned out very nice, too. I think you may have missed your calling as a designer. Your taste in building and finishing is always right on the mark, in my opinion. Best regards to you and Sarah!
We have used oak wood flooring. Want to put in or dining room and living room. We got it 3 years ago and now my husband isn't doing good, so I don't know when it is going to get installed. The holes give your floor a neat look. The floor turned out beautifully 👍.
Absolutely beautiful floor. No. 3 white oak, no stain. I remember my dad and uncle putting it down when I was a kid. They did all the finish work -- don't think I could do that today -- my back hurts even thinking about it.
@@50Acres Wait till you get a few years older. I'd love to put a floor like this in my house -- but don't think I'd live to enjoy it, lol. It does look beautiful -- character and style -- something you can't get with a No. 1 grade.
That floor looks great! Hard wood floors are always a plus, in any build. The finishing really set them off, appropriate for your classic building. Nice!
Looks great! I use this utility grade oak in flip houses. I get it from the Amish for about the same price, place called Graber’s, about 40 min east of Columbus, Oh
mike, great floor, and it looks great to. some fill puddy and a light sanding then varnish it will shine. and as too the peices that you wouldn't use, trim them down too useable
Fantastic job Mike. The wood looked so sketchy when you were putting it down. The finished outcome was amazing!! Loving the transition from the cabin over to 18k overhaul. Its really coming together nice. Just remember one day at a time. Thanks for sharing!! 😀
I deliver the north route for Wurth Baer Supply Company out of Middletown and see your building quite frequently. If you ever need anything, give us a holler 👍🤓
Looks great Mike!! I love the floor. I drive past your place a couple times a week and see your truck outside. I thought about bringing you and The boss so cupcakes or treats. What’s your favorite flavor of cake? Have a great week.
You know I stopped by the cakery one night but I think it was Sunday and you guys were closed. If you see a black van along with the truck I’m definitely there at the shop.
99% of people would have chucked that wood and written it off as a bad deal. You took it and ran with it and ended up with a gem!
Believe me, I was pretty close to doing that myself.
The finished floor is B E A U T I F U L! It looked good before, but once finished, it was W O W! Good job scoring that hardwood and making great use of it!
Thank you Deborah!
I think that floor matches the character of the building perfectly, great choice.

I actually like the floor. Gives the room some character.
Thanks Christopher.

Oh wow I bet that was beautiful. It always amazed me that there was a time when you'd cover wood with carpet!
Real wood that shows flaws and imperfections makes for more interesting floor. Another good video.
I agree, thank you!
Its great to see people recycling and reusing building materials! The floor and cabinets look fantastic.

That floor really came out well. Fits the character of that building too.

It's absolutely beautiful! Yes there are imperfections but they add character to a historic building. Well done!!!

The flooring turned out gorgeous, plus it didn't break the bank.
Thank you Sandra!
I shimmed the floor in my 1884 house in Covington KY like that. It dropped nearly 1.75" over a 15 foot span.
Nice job there. 😊

Floor looks beautiful. Especially in that semi industrial space.
Thank you!
Fantastic job! It is very important to use everything and recover what, in a world of perfection, would be garbage. CONGRATULATIONS
Thanks!
So good to see you. The floor is beautiful 😍
Thank you! 🤗
I've been using that flooring for years. I trowel the whole floor with filler when I'm done then sand it and it looks amazing.
Its good stuff!
That is beautiful and given the price you paid it's a winner!
