The United States is a massive country with many different environments and ecosystems, but these species are all mostly found in the American southwest and south central parts of the country. My first tarantula was a male rio grande gold. My friend was in the desert shooting, and this fella with 7 legs was waddling by, and was struggling to walk correctly, having recently lost his leg. So his friend brought him home to me to 'help,' and I raised him a little bit, and he shed and got a smaller leg back, so we then returned him to the desert spot he was found and released him near a bunch of rocks not far from a tiny stream. Excellent experience as far as first tarantulas go! Great video!! Advocating captive bred is mandatory these days!!
Possibly the best looking of the bunch. IMO I would only the Steindachneri over these. BTW, the Vagans would be the most interesting to have.
I've had my chalcodes for 24 years and she was "adult size" when I got her.
I've had an adult females and have been two more from tiny slings for the past few years. They're really up there in the favorites in my collection. Very docile and no defensive behavior other than retreating to a burrow especially the small ones.
Great video! Kiwi is kicking butt as an educator and T ambassador, thanks again!
The Desert Blonde Tarantula might be my first pet Tarantula in the future. They are so beautiful and docile.
It would be a great choice!
i have an a. anax
i got her earlier this year & shes my personal first tarantula
shes super friendly & calm i love her
I absolutely love my Mexican red rump. She is absolutely stunning. Thanks for highlighting these beautiful babies! The brown and black tarantula has struck my interest as i am a fan of those colors.
my favorite American tarantula is the Arizona blond
Btw, I haven't seen a Screeching weasel T-shirt in quite a while, it reminds me of my younger days. Lol.
lol...you calling us old?
Every Night
I was thinking the same thing!!!! Great to see that shirtđžâ„ïž
Are they a band?
@@DoorsToHideBehind156 yup.
my first T was a Texas brown, and my second was a Desert Blonde lol
Cool! I kind of went a âwerid routeâ and started with a Costa Rican stripe knee (A. Seemani). If I was to get a second T itâd probably be a desert blonde.
I grew up in Tucson, so as a teenager I had an Arizona Blonde. Now, decades later, I'm getting back into tarantulas. I may look into a captive bred one again.
Some of these T's are amazing! Tough to find these in the UK though!
Sadly due to our birds we can only keep so many anyway lol
I have an A. chalcodes, A. iodius, and A. prenticei. They're some of my favorite Ts. Always active and moving around.
You have an A iodius? Do you mind if I ask if you got it wild caught or as a sling?? I got an A iodius and it was wc and matured out male (he was black on his final molt). I sent him to Texas, and I'm waiting to see if he was successful or not. He died a couple days ago. I'd like a sling, but I understand they are rare, so if you want one, sometimes you can only get WC.
@@calliew311 my A. iodius and A. prenticei were both wild caught. I did not catch them myself but they were given to me. They were taken out of a plot of land that was going to be used as a construction zone. My A. iodius is an adult female and I hope to pair her this fall with a wc male that I'll release after the pairing.
My grandma had a desert blond. Her name was lady gloria. She lived for 30 years. Rip lady gloria.
Iâm in Arkansas and the A Hentzi makes the news here most falls. I see them crossing the road most years. Super easy to handle, but with caution for the safety of the tarantula of course. They have a great temperament.
had a moderatum for 4 years it's still tiny.
Love some of these T's. Would love to add them to my own collectio none day!
Another great, informative video. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! I am partial to native species and have 4 out of 5. Guess I need to add an A steindachneri. I would love to see more American natives featured.
Learning so much - as always. đâïžâïžâïžâïžâïž
Fantastic video!!
Loved the video! I was ready to fight in the comments if the Calcodes wasn't #1đ đ„đ„
Glad you enjoyed
Great video đ·đđ»
I love these spiders they made me get over my arachnophobia â€
Is there a tarantula that could be kept outside possibly, my wife would never let me bring one inside lol great video as always
Probably not, leaving an enclosure outside where it could receive direct sunlight would cause a greenhouse effect that would make it was too hot for the spider to survive. And if tarantulas are not native to your area, they will end up dying as soon as winter approaches. Plus releasing a tarantula outdoors that isnt native to that area could have signifigant ecological impacts like what I discuss happened in Florida in this video.
Aww man yea I figured that Iâm gonna convince her to get one I can keep inside my office I live I Texas so we have a lot of wild ones here but I wouldnât dare to catch one lol
ââ@@FinalStage4Ltheoretically it would be really hard to keep one outside. You'd have to create an all mesh enclosure and make sure it's native to your range of the US so it can withstand the temps. But it would probably chew through the mesh and burrow it's way out
Do you have a shed that has ventalation in it? Or a back patio?
I miss my Aphonopelma Chalcodes Sloth
He was such a weird tarantula
A tarantula ran across my foot one morning as I went into work when we lived in OK.
Got super lucky and scored an adult sized female Arizona Blonde Tarantula at my local pet store recently. Absolutely incredible tarantula, let me handle her the minute I bought her.
love ya shirt bro!!
Aaaaaahhhh always a GREAT day when you upload a video!! Whoooo!!! :-))
Thanks!
Helllll yes on the screeching weasel shirt!!!
Great video Richard! Love those chalcodes!
Me too!
I love T. Vagans i have 2, theyre absolutely beautiful
I love this channel. Don't stop making these awesome videos đ
Glad you like them!
dude i didnt watch your channel for like a pretty long while. you have ALOT of tarantulas in the back ground now !!! wow
Welcome back!
Some really amazing speciesâ€
Great job đ
Thank you! đ
Great Number 1!! Absolutely love my Desert Blonde, she is so chilled and always on display! (UK)
If you wanted to expand outside of the continental US, there are actually a few species of tarantulas in Puerto Rico too. These include the Common Puerto Rican Brown Tarantula (Cyrtopholis portoricae), the Puerto Rican Pinktoe Tarantula (Caribena laeta), the Holothele culebrae, and the Cyrtopholis culebrae.
Love your vids man, Iâve been wanting a Trinidad chevron tarantula, could you make a care video about them?
Would love to get one of these native Ts. Evidently thereâs an A joshua from California as well. đ€
âŠdamn man Screeching Weasel! Old school fun! Hell yeah. đ€
So luv these type of video's Richard I just wonder have any captive bred Ts been released back to where they originate from in the form of Conservation .
Yes! Microwilderness and I believe Josh's Frogs do something like that!
So cool
Love my Chalcodes, has to be one of my fave T's I own :)
Hello great video information yes I have been watching a tarantula for over three years it had babies last year Richard I have videos of the tarantula three years
Definitely wanting too add Arizona blonde too our collection for sure
The A calcodes is the only tarantula that my husband has ever bought for himself, even though I look after her; having said that he spoils me rotten with buying me tarantulas and other inverts, so I am good with that. Personally I'd love an A Johnnycashi, as Johnny Cash was my Dads favourite singer, so I grew up listening to him.
Can you believe that this Sunday just gone was the 2nd Capital Invert show over here in the UK, on the outskirts of the UK! It was a brilliant show, but reminded me how quick this last year has gone đ
Would like a care vid -
Amazonius Burgessi (Ghost Tree Spider)
Can we do a top five American Tarantula CZcamsrs . Thanks
only if we can all agree to not include @tarantulakat just to mess with her.
Just picked up an a moderatum. I love it so much. My a chalcodes is a couple years old now and still a freaking juvenile đ a pet hole, basically
I have a Psaimopoeus Cambridgei (Trinidad Chevron) & a purple earth tiger. Really would love a video or at least some of your knowledge of them. Pretty please!
NEED that shirt đ
Nice taste I see!
This video has me wanting a video on tarantula species with the longest lifespans and then one on true spiders with the longest lifespans; that is if you don't already, as I go to search and see! < :
There are tons of wild Aphonopelma Eutylenum in my area in central California. I have found multiple in my backyard as well. Also always find Calisoga Longitarsus false tarantula burrows
I have one A. eutylenum but it is still tiny.
My avicularia avicularia finally molted and almost doubled in size
I have the Aphonopelma semanni
I got the T VAGANS toođ
I was wondering what camera body you use with your Olympus macro lens? Also maybe could do a short on your camera equipment? đ
I've actually made an entire video about you can watch here: czcams.com/video/Tk0SFQ9ue9g/video.htmlsi=jOAVva7KyGTmTTl0
Right now for photography I'm using the Lumix g9ii and for video I use either that camera or the Lumix gh6. The g7 and g9 are older models I have used for photography with Olympus 60mm and 90mm lens. They are a lot cheaper now and very good as well.
@@tarantulacollective Thank you!
I suspect I have either an Arizona Blond or a very pale Missouri Brown living in a burrow in my front yard. They are often outside thier burrow when I am outside.
I see. "Aphono" is "aphonic" shortened.
Hi Richard.
Why is it that the aphonopelma moderatum in the photograph you showed is colourful but the one in the video walking on the ground is not?
Also I hope youâll feature the aphonopelma gabeli, the Carlsbad green.
Because the one I had to film is still a large spiderling, almost a juvenile, and doesn't yet have its adult coloration. That is why I added photos of a full grown specimen for reference.
Thatâs interesting. Thanks. Love your informative videos.
Hi Richard how are you doing I have a bad sinus pressure and sinus infection
Apparently americans find aphonopelmas boring because they are endemic to America, but here in Europe they are not that common and personally i find they are great tarantulas. Just a few weeks ago i got my first aphonopelma (chalcodes).
Its still tiny but its such a sweet little fella.
If I was up to build an desertic setup, I would go for a chalcodes for sure! That's an amazing T.. It's a shame that we are only allowed to have native species here in Brazil. We're only at the begining though. A breeder just found a succesfull way to do individual markings on tarantulas (and that's great news, cause this was the reason we coudn't have those as legal pets in here), and now, we're just a few months of having tarantulas legally available for sale.
Yup.... The desert blonde can be quite pricey and hard to come by here in Asia.
watching here in philippines
Did you build different little "stages" to film your tarantulas on?
yes, I have multiple sets replicating different environments for filming tarantulas and other animals.
Is the calchodes the same as paysoni? I live in the area they live lol and they look exactly the same and act the same.
Oh man, Richard, you gol'darn gone n' done it! You showed an Aphonopelma that I didn't know existed đ I'm a sucker for Aphonopelmas and I only had 3 more species to adopt, to complete my "have to have" Aphonopelma list. Now there's 4 lol! Thank you for the work that goes into your videos. I really enjoy them. And you're welcome, (...I bought your coffee lol!) The only one I dont have is the decaf, but I will. It's all on display, in my spider room, with other Tarantula merchandise I've purchased. Have a phenomenal rest of your week and be blessed!
Thank you for all the knowledge you share with us! I've been spending so much time learning everything I can about T's and its always a entertaining, but most importantly educating; time having you teach me! I just picked up a 3 year old female Tliltocatl albopilosus and you have made the expiercence so much easier to make my wife comfortable with as well haha. Thank you man!
Arkansas Chocolate is 100% someoneâs drag name. đđđ
P formosa tarantula please
I had an Aphonopelma iodius, but he matured out male and I sent him to Texas for breeding, đą. I miss him.
Also, is Ne-VA-duh, not Ne-vah-duh, with the a like in Apple.
@@tarantulacollective there's no h in the middle part of the first one. Ya my autocorrect corrected it since I write it a lot. Supposed to be an H in second -vah-duh. I'll change. Thx for letting me know. It looks crazy incorrect!
You're crazy. Let it be.
@@sandville2396 no I'm not. I would want to know if I was pronouncing something wrong. You're the crazy one for commenting back to me, crazy or just mean. I thought people in this community were kind. Guess not everyone? đđ€·đŒââïž
@@calliew311funny how different people have different dialects. Almost like how they pronounce things differently depending on where you live. Food for thought before trying to correct someone where no correction is needed
â@@calliew311come on now, you really think you were being kind by correcting a slight pronunciation difference? But the person saying you shouldnt have, is the rude one?
I know this tarantula isn't in the hobby but it's the smallest in the world the spruce-fir moss spider
If I had one or could even get more than a few pictures I would've included it.
Can Taratula's be flown internationally and survive in an alternate environment? Are there any breeders that specialise in this? I live in Australia and we never have expo's for tarantulas.
Tarantulas are shipped internationally all the time, but that requires special permits and licenses and what species can be sent to which countries is based on their respective laws. No Tarantulas can be shipped into or out of Austraila except in rare circumstances for scientific study or for zoo's, to the best of my knowledge. But no spiders can be imported into Australia that are not Endemic bc of Australia's strict laws on non native species.
What about the brilezen black tarantula
The Brazilian Black Tarantula us from Brazil, which is in South America. This is a list of tarantulas from the United States.
I wish that was an American T. Theyâre my favorite đ€©
What is the most north eastern tarantula species?
I would do a Tarantulas of the UK video but...ermmm......đ
Has the number of discovered tarantulas in the world passsed 1,000 yet?
Are desert blondes native to Texas?
first
Just goes to show you don't have to go to another country to see some beautiful tarantulas. I keep wondering if there is such a thing as the Artic Tarantula here in Canada. Or perhaps the Abominable Tarantula!
I have vagans, hentzi and chalcodes all females all adults and there one of my favourite species, another informative video thanks dude đđ«¶
