    Hey Petko! Just a thought. The fly trap probably won't do great long term in the standard soil mix, might be worth replanting in its original soil or making a spot in the substrate layer with flytrap appropriate soil :) might be totally wrong but fly traps tend to really struggle without their specific soil types because of their nutrient requirements. I don't mean to be negative just a thought because I think it could work just closer to the water in boggier appropriate soil :)

  • @exotic.pets.and.plants.
    @exotic.pets.and.plants. Před 4 měsíci +20

    Hey Petko. The flytrap will die 99% of the time. It does not tolerate lime water, does not tolerate as many nutrients as the other plants and it needs a frosty winter. But, give it a try. Fingers crossed 🤞
    Best regards from Germany

    • @cxaxukluth5432
      @cxaxukluth5432 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Agree. Nepenthes pitcher plants would’ve been a better choice for a carnivorous plant, they tolerate minerals much better than flytraps.

    • @exotic.pets.and.plants.
      @exotic.pets.and.plants. Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@cxaxukluth5432 Correct. But too many nutrients are also deadly to Nepenthes, and lime water isn't the best either. In a separate pot, Nepenthes would explode. But then, of course, in carnivorous soil or peat etc. and Osmosis water, rainwater, distilled water. Tap water is not the best for the most carnivorous plants.

    • @MajgnikuguluggeBamsidarub
      @MajgnikuguluggeBamsidarub Před 4 měsíci

      I think the flytrap survives, it has expensive frogs and insects as food.

    • @exotic.pets.and.plants.
      @exotic.pets.and.plants. Před 4 měsíci +2

      @@MajgnikuguluggeBamsidarub That's not what it's about. There are too many nutrients in the soil and the roots will "burn" and the plant will die. In addition, the pH value in the substrate will be too high. Carnivores want it more acidic.So, little to almost no nutrients (fertilizer) in the soil and a low pH in the soil/water (no lime).

    • @thomasbazin1529
      @thomasbazin1529 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Most carnivorous plants thrive in poor, acidic soils, and can only take rain/demineralised water. Pretty sure it won't survive. Not sure if they'd require a 'winter rest' in a controlled environment terrarium with strong grow lights. Well if they survive the inadequate soil, I guess we'll know how they do without it after a year or 2.

  • @IncogPollywog
    @IncogPollywog Před 4 měsíci +18

    Just a heads up, over the years your Dionaea might start to decline or die. They not tropical plants (they're native to North Carolina in the US) so they tend to want a dormancy period triggered by slightly lower temps and fewer hours of light. It's not a hard and fast rule of course. There are plenty of people who keep them for a few years without dormancy, though from what I've heard it tends to affect their growth pattern and they also have smaller traps.

    • @4quall
      @4quall Před 4 měsíci +2

      Agreed. I found the only time they thrived for me when I got soil directly from South Carolina in ditches I found it growing wild.

    Pitcher plants evolved to eat insects because of very poor soil conditions. If the soil around the plants gets too rich from the insect poop the pitcher plants might start to struggle. Save with the Venus fly trap. I recommend a very rocky substrate.

    IIRC: carnivorous plants evolved to be carnivorous because of the environment they come from is very wet and low in nutritionous soil. So in order to get nutrients, they catch insects instead!
    Now, when you put your carnivorous plant in a nutrient-Rich environment like the junglearium it might not do well because of the amount of nutrients it would get from the soil. Just my theory!

    Hello Petko, im curious how will Dionea grow in Jungalerium. This kind of setup is better for Pitcher plants. Dionea is not tropical plant and dont need/love so much humid air - (it is better to grow her in greenhouse or outside - he love cooler temperatures at winter) . And i think he will not have enough light at bottom of junglearium. Please don't take this as criticism, its just my experience s from growing Carnivorous Plants.

    Your mysterious spreading plants might be reproducing via spores. Many primitive plants like ferns, mosses and lichens don't use seeds, but instead broadcast spores similar to fungus.
    Aiming your misting system so it doesn't hit that wall directly [and thus wash away the spores] or adding a rougher texture [giving the spores more places to settle] could encourage their spread.

      @@TheDarkDen I thinking more along the lines that the crabs will eat the frogs, space or no space. Another youtuber has vampire crabs and geckos and i think he mentioned that the crabs sometimes caught the newly hatched ones but they breed so much and the adult ones were fast and bigger so it wasn't an issue. There frogs aren't fast or skittish enough when compared to geckos. Without the poison they are literally defenseless. All i'm saying is maybe check if anybody has kept the two together before.

      they do! UVB is really beneficial for every animal, especially reptiles, and their colors tend to flare up when exposed to the sun. Plants also tend to look prettier with UVB, especially the ones with redish colouration, who might even become all green with not enough light.

    Unfortunately the venus flytrap won't survive long term, they need a cold dormant period to survive.
