- True review of Chroma and Max range test of the 4K camera! No B.S. just true tests and comments. I will be continuing my review of this Chroma as we will be flying it more and more during our outings. I will give you all an update on how the Chroma does after many many more flights. I'll also update this narrative part with new developments if they occur, but I can tell you 50+ flights into this thing now and it really shoots great, smooth video! Good job getting rid of the 350 QX Horizon because you guys and Yuneec came up with a GREAT replacement!!!!

Yes the flight times are true. Yesterday I actually got 32 minutes of flight time with a steady 6mph wind and gusts up to 15mph . That's really impressive! The video looks awesome, in my mind there's mo other drone on the market that will even get you close. 2 thumbs up!!!
I haven't flown mine much but decided to fly today out of Covid induced boredom. I lost the default screen; it went to full video screen and I couldn't figure out how to get it back. Thanks for covering that in your video; just double tap. Thanks!

Hey Drone Doc, I'm returning my Typhoon to B&H because of the "no fly zone" issue. I need to be able to fly to test tweaks here at my house, and I'm close to airports. I already ordered the Itelite DBS mod for the Typhoon, and Frank approved sending it back for the white Chroma version. I'm hoping that improves some of the latency and distance issues with the ST10+. I'm ordering my Chroma package with two batteries and flight case from Horizon tomorrow! I look forward to getting it, as I've always had good luck with Horizon support. Very informative video, thanks for the input. I'll be looking for some of your others as well.
I just ordered one yesterday. Your video is encouraging after having a bad experience with a different drone. Fortunately I bought it on eBay and used paypal so I got a refund. Thanks for the tip about the charge adapter. I stopped the video to go and order one as the Chroma I ordered comes with 2 extra batteries...lots of time to play with it once I get it. +Robert Bowen Welcome to the show! Just take your time and don't be in a rush to fly beyond your needs as that's when people get into trouble and start crashing. Just practice practice practice and enjoy the flights! Work on framing your perfect shot, using the drone for recording the action ect........ this is not a FPV racer....... people need to remember this is a camera and video platform. Thanks for the kind words and you'll be flying more expensive birds in no time, just don't be in a rush!
Incredible video Drone Doctor! I'm kind of amazed that you got this kind of range with video! Also, did you take out the led's for the night flight. Most I have seen have the red and green flares in the corners from the bright Led's.

Btw, my dad has been a Horizon Hobbies Dealer for 15 to 20 years. Great company with great interest in making people happy with their purchases. I have had a portrait studio for over 30 years and I am having a blast making movies with this machine! I also flew a lot of fast pattern RC ships 20 -30 years ago. So It was very easy to jump right in get going with the Chroma!

hello there. is see you also have a typhoon 4k on the left. Is the typhoon CGO3+ camera and ST10+ controller compatible with Blade Chroma. I am thinking about getting chroma as a more portable alternative and want to make sure I can use the camera and controller that I already have. thanks!

I recently flew an older Q500 & found it too soft even on rabbit mode. Seems like the Chroma is more agile with essentially the same set-up as the Q.

Doc. - do you know if the Fatshark V4 FPV Goggles will work with the Chroma onboard video system? The screen is so hard to see in bright sunlight even with supplied cover it makes doing anything FPV impossible.

I have the same unit, and in the box was a small cord with alligators clips, where are they used if you know, Great video and like to know a little more about the charger, mine has a battery that will be on for hours, keeps blinking red and green and says balancing, then went to solid red. Error , bad battery??? Thanks so much for all you input on it, it is a really great unit.

I really like this quad. I wanted the Yuneec Q500 4k but the built in no fly zones are a deal breaker for me. Luckily the Chroma is not pre-programmed with them.
I got it!!!! I have only been able to get it in the air 2 times so I haven't tried to go as far as this but I did go over 800' and 320' high. The quad is amazing. I have only flown smaller quads with cameras on them so this is a huge leap for me. Quads haven't caught on much but a few of us are popping up with them. I only know of one other member that has a quad of this quality. Once the guys see what these babies can do you can be sure more will be getting them.

Robert Bowen Chroma has a firmware update on their website. Altitude can be brought up to 3200 feet. I don't know what the distance is off hand but I brought mine up to 1200 feet. I didn't put much distance on it because I wanted to keep it in sight even though at 1200 feet it was only a small dot in the sky.
I know 400 feet is the legal limit but I live deep in the country with 400 hundred acres of pasture and I can see most anything from that vantage point. I would never fly higher than 400 feet if I was in a congested area or around people or cars or roadways nor am I advising anyone else to. Have fun, be safe and fly high.

I am loving my 1080p version but I really wish they would make much brighter nav lights available. My wife decorated mine with highly reflective tape. Although it looks cool, it doesn't help the visibility issue, especially in hazy or cloudy conditions. Perhaps making the entire quad a different color like my orange syma x8c?
I'd not even HEARD of this craft until just now. I've had a Phantom 2 Vision for two years now and am looking to upgrade. I was only looking at DJI stuff. I've been holding off because they seem to come out with more stuff every few months and I don't want to jump in, only to find out I'm already out of date.
But THIS unit really looks good. I like the idea that I don't have to use a cell phone to control the cam or anything else. Oh, and I got started in this 'hobby' with a Blade 180QX. I thought THAT was awesome - ha.
So thanks for opening my eyes to this bird. It seems like everyone is getting into the UAV field these days. It'll be really tough to make a decision, but thanks to you I'll be informed.

Great video! I got mine a few days ago and have been reading and watching before I even take it out of the box. Your video is the best one I have seen. I have one question though, I assume you use the USB cable to get the pics & video off the drone and on to the computer? Haven't seen any vids on getting the pixels off the copter and onto the computer. Thanks!
+Grainexpress Just pull out the micro sd card from the Cgo and put it in the computer. You can use as SD card adaptor or usb adaptor for your micro sd card also. Much much faster.

Drone Doctor, you discussed the 16MP feature on the drone. One of the issues I am having is that I am unable to obtain more than 6 MP file size for the photos taken. Also when taking photos I am not getting that "wide screen" look. In addition, there is slight distortion with the photos. The ST-10+ instructions are very limited and therefore do not provide any insight into this issue or modifying to improve. Can you help or provide a resolution?
+Sgt Leisure Your photo size on MP will be determined by how much detail is in the photo. If you take a photo of the moon in 16mp you may only get a 4mp image. Now if you shoot the same setting of a car sitting at a stoplight right after, your image you just captured may be 12mp. It depends on the amount of information captured. As for wide screen look......... not sure about that one. Call Yuneec tech support and I bet they can walk you through some good settings to try........ sorry it took so long to get back to you.......

+Drone Doctor, I am not worried about 4k filming as I mainly film 1080 and have a couple of Gopro 4 Silvers. Is it worth paying extra for a Chroma with camera or just get the model without but with Gopro mount. Is there an advantage between the two options. Thank you.
+Brave Auto International Japan Watch my other video about the Yuneec G version of the Q5. If I had to chose, I would not use the GoPro version as it is kind of a pain in the ass. Awesome review. I bought a Hubsan x4 a few days ago, fell so hard head over heels that I tripped onto the "BUY NOW" for the Chroma. I absolutely could not wait for black friday. Great review I am so stoked to become the proud owner of this bird.
I am going to fly the living daylight out of my Hubsan just to try and get me more prepared. Any tips from more experienced pilots?
+The RAW FREAK Ya, take it slow and don't get too comfortable......... It's when you start to take chances that you will run into trouble. Keep practicing with the X4 inside the house, watching tv, during commercials ect. When you get your Chroma, ALWAYS take off in Angle mode and never in Smart mode. Watch ALL my videos on Yuneec products and read ALL the comments. Take it slow, don't fly away from yourself too far while you are learning, doing push your battery level on the Chroma, when it says low battery, bring it in.......... Have fun, practice, practice, practice!!! And most important, ALLWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR! No, just kidding, I just have opinions......... but do always give your doctor a thumbs up every now and then! Happy flying and give us some posts of your flights!

With the Chroma's amazing flight time I think I am really going to have good supportive and dynamic practice flights. I will definitely be uploading lots.... After this downpour stops. What does smart mode do to take-offs? Sends it away from your space bubble uncontrollably?
+The RAW FREAK You need to watch all my videos and read all the comments for Yuneec. If you don't initialize it far enough from each other, you can confuse where "home" is and it can fly INTO you on launch. Just take it slow......👍🏼
Is the Chroma still being manufactured? We are having so much trouble trying to get info about this drone.
Excellent coverage, thanks. I see no antennae on the controller, perhaps they are inside the handle. 2800 ft is far less than even the Hubsan H501s with parabolic booster ($5) on the advanced controller - one guy got 1.5 miles (2400m). Do you know if there are mods for the antennae to boost range? Half mile is, um, wimpy, no offense. Must be a way to boost that. If all a user does is follow-me, no problem, but some of us have other uses requiring more range. I need 2 miles.

Update on my range boost mod I mentioned earlier. I put on an 8.5" cable to run RF feed outside the camera and installed an external "butterfly" antenna on the left landing gear putting the antenna behind the gear. I set my range to 1000' x 1000' and flew out to 950' and still had video. I turned left began moving so far so good. I turned left again bringing it back at an angle and around 700 ft. lost video feed for for a few moments. Around 600' feet came back again. Likely having to do with the direction of craft and position in relationship to me. So yes the mod did increase the distance of my video feed. I can live with this but still wish it had more range. Locating a booster for it would be nice.

Im trying to decide betwwen this unit and the DJI Phantom 3 pro. Whats your opinion on these 2 units and do you think light bridge is a game changer over the Chroma 4k?
+Chad Hicks You really need to read all the comments and watch more of my videos. I get questions like this several times a week and you really need to match the bird to your needs. Don't buy based on how far one bird can fly in FPV or which one is faster, has longer flight times ect. If you are new to this hobby and have never held a transmitter in your hand before, one bird is better than another to learn on....... if you have a need to film racing boats on the water, you have another need........ if you are just taking family photos from high up and doing landscape photos and videos you have another need........... Nothing compares to light bridge and I love my Inspire1 Pro and X5............ I also love my P3 Pro and Advanced............ but I also love my Q5 and Chroma because each of these birds provide different things that are important to different people and what they will be used for. If you have min exposure to flying and you go pick up a P3 with capabilities to fly out 3 miles........ you will end up in trouble and I can see a disaster waiting to happen. People will push the limits as they get a false sense of security with their birds and start to push it........ I see it every day......... take it slow, enjoy the ride and enjoy the learning curve........ it's fun moving up to more responsive birds as you learn the basics, but don't be afraid to learn on a Chroma because this thing is really really easy to fly and learn on. Remember, the Chroma is a Camera/Video platform and not a rocket ship. The video feed you see is used to assist in framing your shots, not for FPV. Hope that helps a little Chad. What's the name of your 15 amp charger?
I have the dx8 that has telemetry on it is there any way to use that on the chroma?
+Butch Miller I don't think so Butch. I have the DX18 and I don't think it's capable. The telemetry is really set up to work with the ST10+ software in the transmitter only. I think it's based more on the Android type running program for the ST10+ than the just a standard telemetry kit........ I can tell you though, once you start using the ST10+ you won't want to use the DX transmitter...... for a simple setup, the ST10+ works and feels really good while flying. It feels so light, you think its not top quality but when you use it.......... surprise surprise surprise......... It really is nice.

+Clark Branum In the US yes, that is the rule now from the FAA. If you mean does the wifi transmit only line of site, pretty much. Wifi limits your range and it all depends on what is around you to interfere with your signal. It's not light bridge if thats what you mean. If you are not sure what light bridge is, google DJI light bridge and check out my other videos on range testing.

why are they using the yuneec remote?
just curious since you have have got into these. Would it be possible to route the telemetry on the chroma to seperate it either in the st10+ or chroma. I would like to have FPV for real time video with googles and seperate the telemetry and overly on FPV image.
So I would be adding a front camera &tx for FPV and using the controller to fly. Of course it still would be convenient when I did not have to have low latency FPV. Like making slow videos. I have found that filming with the 350qx3 works best with a seperate fpv setup and fatshark goggles. I would assume the telemetry comes in via the tx/rx not camera and is mixed in the sd10+. Once you learn how to pilot these they can make great high speed videos. (if you have the range on the fpv) seperate issue.
Also just curious. When you were having interference with the phone, why didn't you turn off the phone. Are you sure that was where the interference was coming from? Could you have been at the end of the range of TX/RX I would like to know what the difference in range of the transmitter (st10+ vs dx4 dx6 etc) Thanks for the great footage. Please post more. I am really interested in this drone to replace my qx3
+Greg Steidinger In short, the QX3 is a pile of shit and the Chroma is a GIANT improvement over it. If you read or have been following my other videos, you can understand my frustrations with that 350QX line......... The Chroma and Q5 line are not really intended for FVP flight and you should be looking more to the DJI branding if you want to go that route. The Chroma is just a solid performer and an excellent way for new and intermediate videographers and photographers to frame up and shoot great video with little to no training. As for linking up and having overlays for telemetry into your videos, there are many others you can find on youtube who have used outside software and two cameras to achieve this. I can tell you I tried doing some of it and it did work. My issue is I just don't have the time or patience to play with that when I have so many choice of other birds to fly....... Each drone has it's own place for doing different things and each performs differently. What is really important for one person, doesn't mean shit to another........hahaha. I find myself switching from one drone to another constantly, but I can tell you....... this Chroma is really fun to fly and simple. As for the phone, the flight I did was just a quick flight and I never intended to video tape it and post it into my channel. I was just flying outside in my yard on a quick mission and I decided to just keep going until I lost signal or it decided to just fly away......hahahaha..... well it never did either so I grabbed my phone to shoot a quick clip and send it to a friend of mine because it was not normal for us to get that range with a Cgo3 camera system. As for turning off the phone to see if it goes further, I guess I could try it and see but I have so many things getting ready to post, I might not get a chance to do it until later. I have been flying A LOT of drones over the past few weeks and have been testing the Wizard, gimbal mount, and other new stuff coming down the pipe you all will want to see...... I'll try to get back over to the Chroma and do a quick side by side with the Q5 if I get a chance....... Thanks for watching and I hope I answered "some" of your great questions Greg. Have you flown in between buildings and/or obstacles using FPV? I've read where people said the video cuts out if they are not flying in a clear area. Also, is there a delay in the wifi feed to the display? Thanks
+walter Isom Don't plan on using any Yuneec or Blade bird for FPV...... that's not what they were designed for and you will have to remember that screen was designed for framing your video and photo shots and not fast FVP flight. The latency will get you in trouble if you keep trying to fly FVP with these........ yes, depending on your surroundings, you can lose video feed depending on your distance and environment. Watch some of the other videos we did on other stuff and also look at Bo's videos on FPV flights at his channel, Bo the FPV GUY on CZcams. He has a lot of info for you.

Great video! What model number is this? Our local hobby shop showed us a Chroma Blade with camera but it also comes with an extra battery($180 value) and a hard case ($300 value). We really like the unit but can't afford the extra battery and case right now. This will be our first UAV. The Yuneec Typhoon G has been discontinued and reduced in price but we will have to get a gopro camera. I like the gopro versions because the camera can be used for other things but camera functionality through the remote is limited. What are your thoughts?

Just purchased Chroma.... im luck to get 250 to 300 without seeing some sort of video lose on the control and seeing multiple wifi reconnect attempts. Also my Chroma will not fly higher than 400 feet. Any thoughts?
+TM S As for your camera, you must be in a really really bad wifi area or have a defective camera. As for the 400' you need to hook up your bird to the computer and update your flight geo fence to what you want to limit your bird to fly........... 400' in Smart mode is probably default. Look up updating your firmware on CZcams and I think there are a couple good videos one by Dronecamps I think I saw..........

I am stuck between the blade chroma and the yuneec q500. I've been debating all day on which one to get for my first drone.
+Taharqa Saaba You can't go wrong with either. Just just look at what each one features and comes with in the package and go from there. I have both and they both are great! Watch the videos on both and search the tube for what the others show you and you can find some good info. You will also find some REALLY STUPID info out there, so be careful to filter out the bullshit from the real stuff...........
Thank you sir. I found the yuneec q500 4k with 2 batteries and the works for less than the chroma 1080p with backpack and 2 batteries. Getting the yuneec 4k is a no brainer over a 1080p. And the yuneec 4k is $200 less than the chroma 1080p

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it I always say........ Stay ahead of the curve......... You'll slowly start to learn how to use 4k as it gets more mainstream. You can also do great conversions from 4k to 1080 with much higher quality video, just takes a little more time editing.
how do you download the media from the chroma? do I have to plug the chip from the camera I'm the computer? is there a way to view it on the display on the remote?
+abigaleeeeeeee23 No way to display the image on transmitter. You remove the sd card from your camera and put it in your adaptor for your computer.

Yes, but you may have to contact the place where you bought it for further help. If you don't know how to download content from an sd card, they will need to help you as it's just too long of a process to explain over this forum, sorry. You can also go to Horizon Hobby web site and contact tech support for help. They can walk you through it.
Doc - I have one more question to bother you with regarding this review. I adjusted my geo fencing to test the distance a little further. I lose video feed at about 850 feet or so. How did you manage to get feed at 2800 ish ? Is there a setting or a way to boost signal... Thanks so much

No modifications at all and I'm in a residential area flying over a wooded area! I couldn't believe it went that far without losing telemetry or video feed! I was playing around flying a bunch of different drones and decided to see how far the Chroma 4K would go before I lost feed. I was shocked because the other Cgo3 4K's I've tested didn't go out that far in even better conditions!
Do these Chroma s fly higher than 400 feet ?? Or can they ??

when you say 15a does that mean you set your Amps to 15 instead 6.3? for 6300mah For charging for faster charge? If so does this mean the total life cycles will be less, on the battery?
+Brian Becker My bad, 6300mAh. If you don't know what you are doing, please don't charge your 6300mAh battery at 15 amps. It takes a special charger since most won't even go that high and if you hood this thing up wrong....... you just made a giant bomb! Keep it at 1c or 6.3amps and don't be in a hurry. Buy another battery if you need for flying time and do slow charges on them.......... I don't want to hear about how you hook these batteries up wrong and blew up your garage!
In the same price bracket at the Q500 4k and Phantom 3, is it as good? And which would you say is the best overall drone?
+Signori Sorry Signori, but that is not a one drone answer. You really need to match your drone to your needs, flying experience, abilities, camera uses etc...... If you have never flown a drone or UAV before and do not want to mess with computers, then I recommend one brand or another. If you want way points and have a need for long range FPV, then another brand is more your cup of tea........ Do you want a steady grip and carry case in your package, then another could be better for you. Is having a wizard that allows you to point into the sky and make your drone fly to that position just by pointing important, then you need to look at the Chroma or Q5... You can't go wrong with any of these birds but you really need to match the abilities with what is important to you. The main purpose of this review is to show off the strengths of this particular UAV. For those that might have passed up the Chroma for one reason or another, I think we all need to revisit this Chroma because it has REALLY been fun and easy flying! The new high voltage adaptor Horizon Hobby released for the Chroma battery now allows for high amp charging and THAT has made it really great also! Lot's to consider now with this Chroma! I had new flyers out with me this weekend who have NEVER used an RC before and they were flying all over taking photos and videos within 5 mins. One guy got on his phone and ordered one because he got so hooked! Now that is an impression! Wish I had a drone store and sold them!!!!
+Signori The cam on this thing is not good voor video. It lacks video quality against the Q500 4K and the new phantoms, this camera have heavy aliasing and moire due bad downsampling/lineskipping from a 16M sensor. I am also not a fan of the dynamic range and the colors rendition, it produce a yellow/braunish tint.. If u downconvert this 4K to 1080P, iit will even getting worse in the output.

Yup, it will start heading back towards you until it reestablishes connection with your transmitter. If it doesn't reconnect for whatever reason, it will come home and land.

53 year old newbie here. Just received an email from H/H about the Chroma and searched for videos when your channel came up. I have subscribed and have a question. When this tracks/follows you, you first set a height and distance limit. Once you set off, does Chroma have a pre built-in collision warning and make adjustments by itself so you don't stack it into a tree or something?. I see there is a 30' safe zone for the controller. Does this work the same when it's flying on the above 2 modes?
Welcome to the old man's flying club with me!👍🏻👴🏻 Always set your bird higher than you think you will need to be safe. There is NO collision avoidance and it's only called "pilot input"😆 The 30' radius is only in "smart" mode so during your learning curve, take it slow, fly in a very open area and try to fly only in angle mode as much as possible. TAKE OFF IN ANGLE MODE ONLY!!! Watch all my other videos and read the posts. You'll learn a lot from it all! Thanks again for subscribing!

I just got a P.O.S. Chroma that I didn't even get to fly 2 mins. I went straight up with it just past the roof of my apartment building and hovered for less than 2 mins. All of a sudden, all the lights went out, the props stopped spinning and it just fell out of the sky and broke into pieces. Does anyone have a clue what could have went wrong with it?

Hi Drone Doctor, Sadly 2 days of getting my Blade it got a GPS lost warning and headed off into the abyss. I live on a large game farm and recovery is not really an option have been searching for days! obviously i am really annoyed and did some research to find that i am not alone with this, there are a bunch of folk out there who got the same issue! Have you come across it and do you know if it has been addressed? i am nervous of getting another as they are not cheap yet i have been bitten by the Drone bug, perhaps the Phantom is a better option?

Thanks, nice to get some feed back. I note in the Manuel that it flicks over from smart to AP mode when gps is lost, does this mean it would carry on flying out the 600ft zone or it would stop and hover till the battery got low?
If you lost GPS you can still fly as if you switched to angle mode. My understanding is it goes into a hover if you have lost signal to you transmitter AND lost gps..... If you only lose one, it will continue to fly fine.....

I've read many articles on the Chroma 4K versus the DJI 3 pro. I currently own some DJI products (Phantom 2 w/zenmuse H3-2d, Flamewheel F550 w/zenmuse H3-3D). I am very handy and built the F550 from scratch including mods for FPV, etc. I was considering purchasing a DJI Phantom 3 pro until I found the Chroma 4K. I am a little concerned with the flight distance difference between the two. I probably will never need to go the extra distance but it is nice to know you can. I do like the extra flight time and non proprietary battery charging lead config on the Chroma. What is your pick between the DJI Phantom 3 pro versus the Chroma 4K? Is the Chroma's software locked down like the DJI ? Thanks and sorry for the long message!
+OBXKEV No locks for Chroma and as for which is better for you.......... depends on your goals and experience. If you already have flight experience, the DJI products might be a better fit for you since the Chroma may be too simple with your prior experience with the F550. See if you can find a friend or shop that has both and try them out first. Thanks for subscribing and watching!
Do you have any other makes/models in mind that are still relatively cheap? I really don't want to deal with DJI as their customer service is poor and they have locked down their software so that I can't use it some of the time even if it is merely to inspect rooflines.

If you turn it off, it will return to it's last known take off point. That's why I tried to explain to some but everyone has their own ideas of what it does. There is another kid on youtube who filmed it. You will need to do a little search, but he shows you what happens when he turns it off while in flight.

My chroma is being delivered as I type. :-) What happens if you go out of range? Does it automatically return to home like the Phantom? From your video; I assume it doesn't return home in a low battery situation.
It will return home until it reestablishes a connection to your transmitter. If no reconnection occurred, it will come home. Battery, no, but it will warn you of low battery with vibrations to your ST10+ and you'll have to be pretty dumb to ignore it..... Come home when it alerts you....👍🏻 enjoy your flights and remember the tips we posted, take off in angle mode!

Any drone with gps should have altitude lock. I have yet to find a gps equipped bird without it👍🏻👍🏻

+ACTIVEKID phantom 3 has lightbridge so it can go 10,000+ feet copared to the 800' this test showed. however, the chroma flys great and doesn't seem to record as much as far as props in the video goes.

I would choose the Chroma over the P4. Price difference being a huge factor, but I honestly don't see a big difference in video quality. Obviously P4 blows them all away like you said, but for a basic, inexpensive, and good video quality quadcopter, Chroma wins. This is my opinion though, everyone has one, no need to hate if you disagree as it's your opinion :)

Yup, nothing wrong with that opinion X3Drag. Everyone has their own opinions and the only thing that matters is that YOU are comfortable with your drone and you like the way it performs. Don't listen to others if they bash you and enjoy the hobby!
please tell the people: Chroma is the greatest drone (+) and the best 4K camera (+). Great LED lights showing you at night all the modes (x) you are currently using (+). Greatest control range of all drones I know (+). An extremely long flight time of up to 30 minutes (+) But now it comes: The batteries (6300 mA) get "bloaded" (-) after just a few rounds of recharging. They don't fit into the slide any longer. You will need to replace them about every 6 months. I use a similar charger, much faster, but that does not change the bloading of the battery. Easy to upload videos from mini SD cards. I hope they will be available for a long long time. Correction to the video: Tracking will not point the camera at you - it tracks the person holding the controller. So in some cases you might have to hide the controller from view. I love it for several years - please CHROMA, do not quit producing parts for this drone! It's great and my comments are not sponsored, I promise. Last disadvantage (-): it is relatively heavy and - as usual - the government has implemented new laws to fly such drones. I still recommend it!!!

I have a brand new one with a CGO3 on it and it loses video at 400 feet. I'm not the only one who has this short range problem with the CGO3 others like myself are seeking some kind of mod to extend the range of the video camera.
As for the USB port on the bottom the GUI never will recognize the copter using it. I must use a cable that I ordered for my QX-350 in order to get the GUI to recognize the Chroma. I sent them an Email about that and it's been several days and no one has responded. Yes I had to fish that little white wire out from under the battery shield and plug into that to get it to work.
I am glad it is very easy to fly and very stable. I can pick up 10-14 satellites inside the house. I've flown under things, metal structures, trees and such and GPS still worked.
If I had an extra hand I would go out and shoot a video of how it's losing the video feed. A friend of mine put the 5.8ghz antenna outside the camera case and we gained another 125ft making it a total of 525 feet before we lost the feed on the last test.

+Drone Doctor I was about to call them, I had one of their sales people in chat and he said you can call them but all the lines are busy right now. He said try again at 8am in the morning so I sent another Email to them and said I would call them in the morning. Kinda sad thing though is after finding another guy on here who put his camera antenna on the outside I had a friend here who's good with electronics said he would do the same on mine but all he could do was move the antenna to the outside of the case. That got me up to 525 ft before it failed again. I have external antenna and cable on the way to move it off the camera. I'm a Ham radio operator and a videographer but my friend who worked on it for me is also quite good. Then I find out others are getting much further range on theirs without doing anything to it and makes me wonder if something isn't wrong with my transmitter.
No, something is wrong. I can get 2800' sometimes depending on location.
I have two chromas and they both drop out a lot at around 400-500 feet. Thought it was normal - no way would I get even close to 2800 ft of video.

Drone Boss + yes they do it's on Chroma's website. I just downloaded it today and installed it from my computer to my 4K Chroma Blade UVA and it worked fine. Will take you up to 3200 feet, I went to 1200 Ft. then I landed it because it was the virgin run new firmware.

Personally, I like size, looks and ability to break down the Chroma. I also like the battery life more also. One thing I HATE is the fact you have to land the Chrome to select different flight modes when the Q500 allows you to do it in flight😡 Both made by Yuneec so why there is not a firmware fix for that I will never understand.

Oh wow didn't know you had to land and just can't switch in the fly.... I cam from the DJI Phantom 2 & now using the Q500.. I wish the Q500 could switch from GPS to Manual mode with a flick if a switch like the DJI can.. Also wish it had its speed & that it stops when you let go of the sticks... The Q500 glides to a stop... Love the size of the Q500 though and I rarely get the props in the shot.. I do like the speed of the Chroma, looks like she moves pretty good..

100'? Now there is something wrong there....... as for the FPV part, I wouldn't be using the Chroma for FPV because of the latency issues. It was never designed for that type of flight. You have to remember, Yuneec and Horizon Hobby designed the bird for video output to "assist" in framing your video and photo shots and not fly by video. I know it sucks, but the latency has just too much of a delay for FPV at any range really.
+Drone Doctor a That's what I was thinking. When you pay $1,200 for a 4K FPV quad (or $850 like I did with discounts 😃👍🏼) you shouldn't have any kind of problems with it like that. I've tried flying it with and with out my iPhone on my side and at different locations and it still messes up at times. I'm gonna call Horizon back on this one. Thanks for your help!

John Petito, I use the Graupner EX 1400 which is WAY overkill for these batteries and there are other 15amp chargers out there cheaper. The one I use can go up to 30amps and of course you don't need that....... The Chroma can take 15amps, but I find I really don't need to do rapid rapid charging with it all that much. I usually just charge it at 10amps if I'm in a little bit of a hurry or I just use 5amps to trickle charge it......... Not to say I still don't do 15amp charging as I do every once in a while.

What the hell???? I've never had a flyaway with the Chroma. Did it lose link to the transmitter or just GPS? If it loses GPS it just switches to Angle mode automatically but you don't lose control. Did you lose all control? I've had my P3 fly away on me while doing some hard maneuvers in Atti mode, but never the Yuneec products.

+Drone Doctor I am really debating between 3 quads right now. I need this quad for my company so I can take high detailed pictures of a roadway and pick control points out of it. I have done a lot of research on the Q500 4k, the Chroma 4k, and the phantom pro. Camera quality is very important to me and so is having a reliable UAV that won't drop out of the sky. I have heard from a expert at one of my nearby rc shops that the phantom has very unreliable motors and need lots of maintenance. He called it a "Flying turd." Do the Chroma and the q500 have better motors? Also the phantom has Lightbridge which makes the fpv come back to the transmitter at 720p. How is the fpv with the Chroma and the q500? Is it 720p? Also if I were to pause the 4k video and get the picture from that would it better quality than if I just took a photo? I am really considering the Chroma right now because of its 16 megapixel camera quality but am not sure. Would really clear up a lot of confusion if you could answer these questions. Thanks, Nate

There are so many great choices out there now, they will all need to compete aggressively! Don't expect GIANT discounts though, so you kind of have to weigh in how much is it worth to you to sit around and wait........ For me, waiting until it drops to half price means waiting for it to be outdated and obsolete! Enjoy it while you can, time is money and money saves time........ can't get it back and if you miss the moment, you can't say I'll wait for the next moment to come around......... just my two cents worth....... sitting around months to save $50-$100 isn't worth it to me........

+david tan Because this bird is designed for people who are either just learning to fly or don't want all the drama associated with flying out 3 miles, waypoints ect. I've watched many many people who have never flown before get a P3 and just drill it into the side of a tree or building because they took it out of beginner mode, got too cocky or just simply didn't want to wait and learn correctly. The Chroma is designed for a stable no drama camera platform and to get out 2800' on this type of setup, fantastic! You have to fly all of these to truly understand where each has a place in this hobby. I love my DJI products, but they are not for everyone and I wouldn't recommend all my DJI products to everyone. They all have their +/- and you have to fit the bird to the need of the pilot. Would I want a new pilot on a Chroma or Q5 for the first time or a P3? If I own all of them and they are flying my stuff........... the P3 stays parked........ The Chroma and Q5's are just that easy to fly....... very very simple. If you want to say the P3 has greater range, of course it does....... watch my other videos and you can see that....... if you are looking to get started in this hobby and you want to venture out a little further with a no drama flight and eventually take it out to 2800' you can....... If you are learning this hobby for the first time and you own a P3, you will eventually get too comfortable and do something stupid like fly out 3 miles with very little experience and get yourself into trouble...... with the Chroma and Q5, you can keep it simple and enjoy the show! I'm an experienced pilot who likes to fly and likes to shoot more or less casual AP (but as high rez and stable as possible without breaking the bank), and who moved from trad heli camera platforms (up to 600 class) to DIY APM/Pixhawk -based gimballed Gopro-carrying hexes and quads (since the days when gimbals had servos). While I like to build and tinker, it's sometimes just too time consuming and frustrating out on the "bleeding edge." The Chroma just flat out seduced me with its solid, silky flight in "angle" mode and, as you put it, the lack of drama, and of course the quality of the 4K video and the beautiful minimalist Tx. Not to mention that Horizon/Blade has been a pleasure to deal with for years, for me. For my purposes I see no reason to want anything more in an AP ship - this is exactly what I've fantasized about for years. Meanwhile I'm ripping around with 200 and smaller high-performance mini-hotrod quads to get my adrenaline jolts and my techie fixes. So, yesterday I sold my main bigger AP build, a Hoverthings quad frame w. extended arms, KDE motors, T-Motor carbon 10 inch props, Pixhawk FC, Alexmos gimbal w. Gopro Black 3, etc. etc. and bought myself a Chroma, the 4K version with the backpack. Dialed in the compass and maidened it today in slight gusts that it ignored. Happy happy! I'll bet I'm not the only hardcore R/C guy who will fall for this very comfy rig, once some pride about building everything oneself is set aside.

After having gps problems with previous models and fly always I have purchased one of these, wish I hadn't, 4th flight got a warning it had lost all gps and had to fight like the devil to land it, you would think HH would build better safe guards into these things regarding gps cos it's an awful lot of money to watch blowing away out of control

Have had it up to 300. Also - Does anyone use or see the need to use any type of secondary gps bug to attach to the copter in case of a fly off ? Is there any need in worrying about that... thx
Well, I can only tell you these are still mechanical devices and ALL mechanical devices can fail. I can only tell you the experiences I have and my opinions. I've owned three of these and I've pushed these to MAJOR limits trying to get them to fail with no luck. I've rarely heard of people having flyaways but that doesn't mean it can't happen, I just can't get it to happen. You've already seen just a small amount of videos I'm made on the Chroma and Q500 birds. They are both made by Yuneec so they both act and fly very similar. As for tracking units, my buddy puts it on all his birds and I don't. It's totally up to you and what you value for your dollar. For me, I'll buy an extra battery😆, for him, he's scared to death to fly over water......😆😆😆😆😆. It has to be your choice and not what some idiot tells you. Remember, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and there are a lot of assholes out there. Just try to find one you can tolerate the smell from....😆👍🏻. i don't know why, i hvn't flown one yet and already have a trusted P2V+ thats still a fine drone to shoot videos with..and the chroma has been in scene for sometimes...but...i think i had to have one...

so you got 2800' with the stock chroma and 15,000' with the phantom advanced with light bridge? if so dang, light bridge is pretty damn impressive. i might have to sell my chroma for a phantom. i do like many of the features and flight characteristics of the chroma, just with it had light bridge!

i'm leaning to the phantom 3 still even with the 4 being out. the big selling points on it seem like things i almost would never use. i like manually flying and filming.
+Sean Ozz Trust me Ozz, take the hit and get the P4. You'll thank me later and there are things about the P4 I'll tell you later. I had a flyaway with P3A but I've pushed this P4 WAY harder than any of my other birds and just for confidence sake, get the P4! Trust me on this one if you're upgrading and can afford it. If not, just don't fly the P3 in at to mode aggressively or you'll knock the compass out of whack and off it'll go!
The cell phone doesn't cause the interference. All Chroma drones will lose contact from the camera and controller. Much improvement needed.
DUDDEEEEE!!!!! Pleaseeeee i need your help so bad!!! first off i wanna thank you so much for all your videos, They're so helpful! but can you please please make a video on how to upload your footage to your mac????? I've recorded so many video but i cant open them on my computer, ive tried converting them, ive tried contacting Horizon hobby but like always they're no help!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Take the sd card out of the camera and download directly from that.
