I have had a Chroma for some time now and after putting it through some serious testing i feel i can now give a unbiased detailed review.
If you have been on the fence about taking advantage of the dropping price of Horizon's Blade Chroma then take a minute to watch this video.
I go over many of it's features and express my thoughts on durability and build quality. Horizon has a solid product with good customer support. At the current price point this is a great way to get into ariel photography. This is a steady, easy to fly bird that will help get your feet wet.
Please Subscribe for more videos and if you have any questions of what else you would like to know about the Chroma ask below in the comments.
A detailed look at the controller is in the works as well so keep checking back for that.
I stressed big time about the self tightening props in this video for a reason.

I love it. I love the way it actually looks like a transport or a real airship
👍🏻
Great review Sean.
Thank you.
Good review. The prop advice is right on. I own 3 Chromas and your right about the neck strap. You can buy a Yuneec ST10+ neck strap on Amazon for around $16.00 that will keep the strap out of view of the screen.
Three chromas ? At the same time or you have gone through three? Thanks for the tip on the neck strap. I'll check it out. .
Yes, I have 3 and all are flyable. Two are the CGO3 4k camera models and one is the GoPro version with the ST10+ radio. The best bang for your buck out of all the ready to fly camera drones out there.
+HawkHunter I agree. It really is the best value at the moment.
Yeah man we need to get together and fly! I started with a Phantom 3 standard and quickly moved up to a P3, I just sold that one and have the Phantom 4 Pro arriving tomorrow. DJI have really pushed the limits with drones, 4K video 20 megapixel stills. Perfect for a Vlog. I am waiting until, the Mavic is available in stores, waiting six to eight weeks is agony when I just want to fly!
+Joshua Carlton I have been going to the Apple Store and Best Buy hoping to get lucky on a mavic. No luck yet. I played with the display at Apple and its crazy bad ass. My girlfriend filmed my first reaction and I was like a kid on xmas. Ha ha. I'm sorta obsessed with these things. The phantom 4 pro looks bad ass. Glad to hear it's not crazy back ordered.

nice
thanks!!
Real nice review Sean. I've flown my 1080P Blade Chroma a lot over the last 6 months, it's a really good quad. I guess my biggest complaint would be the Wi-Fi drops out occasonally, which is no big deal. Also I think it is very important to calibrate the compass often, whenever I re-locate (which takes a few minutes). I've had no fly away issues at all. Thanks again, keep up the excellent reviews!
+RC Owego thank you. Besides the occasional issue I've had in the mountains. I think my biggest issue is the latency in the video signal. That and horizon customer support seems to be going down hill.
i purchased a chroma and got it for half the cost awhile back, just started making drone shots on you tube. This is a good drone for someone starting out I feel like I am.
i agree. overall it is a very solid platform. the portability has really only been outdone by the dji mavic. i am surprised that they are not making a chroma number 2 improving on the features it has working for it. even the cg02 is pretty good. the fact you can remove it and use it in a steady grip is great. the karma was the only other drone that had that feature (well, all yuneec's pretty much as well since yuneec made the chroma for horizon.)
Sean Ozz true can be a pain transporting around. It did not come with a case so need to buy one I guess
Hey... would this Chroma drone have the lifting ability of the Phantom 3...? I want to surf fishing from the beach front... lift weight would be 16oz (est).
Thanks
if i recall it was pretty similar.
Hi Sean! Great Video. Very Detailed. Is this Drone still your current Drone?
hey, yep. this is my day to day drone. it's my second larger one and 3rd or 4th if you count my min more toy like ones.
i am waiting for the new DJI mavic pro to be in stock. as much as i travel it's smaller size would be perfect for me.
Nice video and nice quad. A little surprised to see that their calibration procedure is still the same as the 350 QX, which I have. I also have a couple of Phantoms and their compass calibration is much simpler and doesn't require you to figure out where North is.
Funny you mention that. I was just talking about how I always have to yank out my phone and figure out where north is before flying. Lol
+James Williams yeah. That's yuneecs way to calibrate.
Hello, I am new to drones. I recently bought one of these used. From the moment I turn it on, an annoying repetitive beep begins (perhaps an alarm), something like this: (piii piii pi pi pi ...) that repeats indefinitely. Does anyone know what the reason is?
Sorry to hear that
Nice review ....very detailed. I did want to address a safety concern in the you had the quad turned on while having the blades installed. More for some people that may not have as much common sense then you or I might have...just saying.
Thanks for posting the video.
K nine I have not heard of the chroma having an issue with randomly starting the propellers on its own without input? That's an even worse issue then the fly always horizon has had to deal with. Is this a wide spread issue like the fly always or a smaller percentage?
+K nine thank you.
Hey man, it's great to find you on here. As a fellow drone pilot I have to ask what made you choose the blade chroma over any of the phantom series?
+Joshua Carlton long story. I didn't like the phantom one or two much and I had got an insane deal on the blade 350qx. It ended up falling dead out of the sky never to be found. I was about to jump to the phantom 3 but horizon offered me a deal on the chroma I couldn't pass up. It's been decent over all but I've posted videos showing some issues.
I'm searching for a mavic pro now but they are back ordered forever.
What are you flying?
Joshua Carlton it's good to see you on here as well. It's been forever and a day. Maybe I'll see you at a show this year. I've started doing a few here and there again to show off my bloody tattoo ready skin slabs. Http://skinnedink.com if so we Gould both bring drones and go fly.
Are these still for sale i like them alot?
neil robertson you can find them used on eBay or in Facebook drone groups. You could probably get one from 200-400 dollars.
These things are still around
I think you can find one on ebay if you try.
Just a quick question here. Is it possible to use 3rd party blades on the Chroma. The original ones are a little pricey. Great video btw.
HeliZero thank you.
As far as I know you should be able to find after market props for the chroma. I know someone used to make carbon fiber for it even. Just make sure to use those o rings.
cuanto vale este Drone
pero deme el precio en castellano porfi gracias
i do not sell drones. sorry.
Nice review. Please be careful with the battery charge adaptor. The whole time I was watching you flip it around with the battery plugged in to the charge adaptor I was freaking out waiting for sparks to fly. Don't let the ends touch in fact I wouldn't ever plug the battery in without the adaptor plugged in to your charger first so the positive and negative terminals can't accidentally short together. I've done it myself.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the review. i have never had one of these have an issue but i get what you are saying. normally that baby is plugged into my charger. if it would have blown up i would get a ton more views, ha ha ha.
+Sean Ozz usually it just makes a quick spark and that's it. Always makes me jump though when I forget and do it.
Hi Sean, What is the range of the Chroma Drone? Does it notify you when you get to that point?
+leon van rensburg the range out of the box is not very far. I think 500 feet give or take. However you can hook it up with USB to your computer and download software that allows you to change that setting. I have mine set to 1500 feet away and 400 feet high. If you do fly to 1200 or so feet it's virtually a dot in the sky. If you get to your end setting it acts as if it has hit an imaginary wall and just will not fly any further.
No warnings or anything though when you reach it.
Hey you still active here? I’m having camera issues where it won’t record and When it does videos are corrupt
Still making videos years later. I sold my chroma though.
Sean Ozz how much you sell it for? And you know any reason on why it would stop video recording? Red letters come up saying disconnected from camera lol then they end up being corrupt
Possible the cable is defective. But I can't say for sure. You can buy a replacement if you search hard enough. I think I sold it for 600 but that was some time ago.
I'd suggest selling and getting the mavic air 2 fly more combo. You will love it coming from the chroma.
Sean Ozz thanks man! I fly fpv freestyle just got this for super cheap and wasn’t sure what to do but yea that’s what I was looking at especially when I’m making money from flying now thanks for the replies man!
I cant get my Samsung Note 4 connected to the handheld camera holder.
Dave Bellman hmm. You have the cgo app? It will not connect with wifi with passcode 1234567890 ?
+Dave Bellman sorry. I've never tried with an android. It should hook up to the cgo app.
I have figured it out, I'm all set thanks.
I wish the GUI would work with my windows 10 laptop.
Dave Bellman The GUI now works with Win10, check out Horizon website for new download.

NONSENSE ... all my batteries keep growing in size and don't fit into the slot! Talk about this my friend. The drone itself is great. Very smooth camera and high qulity pictures! I flew it many years and still would - but can't get batteries.
Forgot: Do not land it on a sailing yacht by pushing the auto-land switch. It will end up in the water, because the GPS remembers the place where it started, not the place where the boat is now!!! I did that once and saved it from drowning, but I had to do a landing by hand! Very important to understand!!!
HORIZON HOBBY does no longer offer batteries, but the science has significantly improved. I do not understand why they discontinued. Are there any other "relieable" companies!!!???
Nonsense? You realize this product and video is old and now outdated. I would suggest you try a Mac air 2 or a skydio 2. Sometimes I miss my chroma but these newer ones just fly so much better.
