Sorry to out you through that! I always go back and forth internally on the crack outs. I do have others in my collection, but sometimes I let my curiosity win out. I'm convinced NGC is tougher on grading than PCGS so I like to do these little tests now and then
1884-O at 12:04 appears to have a wheel mark from a bank's coin counting machine and could/should have came back UNC-details. Such coins can still have value. I only agree with the grade & designation on the holder maybe 1/2 the time for PCGS & NGC.

Your the third guy I have watched getting his stuff back today. Somewhere between 30-40% of the collectors had cleaned for faked coins back. Way to put the work in and get a pretty good lot.
Ouch - yea I'm pretty fortunate that most came back with straight grades. The cleaned coins are tough. I have definitely had my fair share of fail coins but it was all apart of the learning process for grading. What do you collect??

at 14:45 I heard those old NGC holders are worth hundreds of more dollars, I maybe wrong those because this is new information to me.
Genuine question - why don't people just buy OGH and try upgrading in macro? It'd have to be a net win wouldn't it - as they were harder on grading back then? Also...why'd you crack that 1898 though - def should have left that in the older generation NGC case as it's worth more that way!
That's a great question. I guess it would come down to the grading costs and what coins you would sub for reconsideration. Some jumps translate into big gains in value even by a single digit. Others not so much. I am convinced NGC is tougher on grading than PCGS in general (even today). So I like to crack out and essentially test the waters in each submission just to see what happens. I do have other more valuable coins in older NGC and PCGS holders, but since 1898 is a more common year I didn't feel like I was risking much. Plus me doing that and sharing could possibly help someone decide on cracking a coin out or not. Thanks for the comment!

I can see that. I do have an NGC membership, but I only use it when I crack out PCGS grades I don't agree with. Haven't gotten enough coins yet to put an order together, but one will be coming down the road. What coins do you collect??

I will be submitting my 1884 O Morgan for grading through PCGS, submitting it with mint errors I have good hopes that it will be a ms-64 or above very light rim toning front and back one small black spot up by lettering above her crown we'll try to let you know what I get as a grade

for next time, I suggest yes, start with the reverse, but turn it around whilst covering the grade, have a look at the obverse, before revealing the grade, it would be more fun that way

Pro tip, send the Gsa morgans to Ngc. They just put a band around it with the grade so it will still fit in the original gsa box. When Pcgs grades gsa's they put another plastic case around them and then they won't fit in the original gsa box.
Yea I thought about that for a while. I’ve seen the blue banded gsa’s but I kinda wanted the case in the case for some reason lol. I might end up putting one on a shelf for display. Thanks for the tip!
Nice group of Morgan’s. Congrats on the crossovers and upgrades with no downgrades. Morgan values have skyrocketed the past year! PCGS price guides are still usually 10-20% higher than real fair values though.

@@anguscollectibles7023 I usually buy from brick and mortar dealers and online auctions like Heritage Auctions, Great Collections, Proxibid, etc. Occasionally, other dealer websites.

Yea seriously! What surprises me is that the Peace dollars haven’t jumped along with Morgans. I’m hoping my 1922 dollars spike a little next year but we’ll see

That's a great question. I would start by checking prieguides like the Red Book or the PCGS/NGC websites to see which coins are worth a premium in higher grades. Those sites also have great resources for coin grading basics. If you have coins that you think meet those criteria, then you can either become a basic member with PCGS or NGC and submit your coins to them. I would start with your 4 or 5 best coins and see what happens. There are also a bunch of youtube videos that discuss what to look for in determining to get your coins graded or not. Best of luck!

Do you know when the fatty orders were used by PCGS? I’m wondering how long it might have taken for the amount of toning on the 1883 O to develop. Let’s assume the coin was stored at average or adequate temperature environment.
Basically I’m trying to what type factors affect toning and how well does having coins slabbed protect them if stored properly.
Good deal on the coins you acquired and submitted. I’ve yet to send one in for grading but of the first few will be a Morgan and a reverse proof nickel.
Remember on the grading standards the coin also has to have the strike as well as clean fields. I've had coins that would grade as MS65 but they only had an MS62 strike. It sucks when you get a really good cheek and clean fields with a garbage strike.
I just sent a coin in that NGC called a 62 but is very clean so I'm wondering if the strike hurt it at NGC
@@anguscollectibles7023 Easiest way to look at strike is clarity of the details. On a Morgan it's the hair tuff by the ear and breast feathers on the eagle. Strike can also differentiate an au 58 from ms 62. If the reverse strike is good but the tuff by the ear is week it's an AU 58.

Just discovered your channel! Nice group of Morgans. I enjoy videos like this!! I do not know anything about the value of old slabs, but I do know that some collectors will pay premiums for them. In some cases quite substantial premiums. You might want to check into that in the future. "Acousha Collectibles" did a video recently about an old NGC slab that sold for $800!

The value in old slabs sometimes comes from the fact that the grading companies were known to "under grade" coins during that time so "cracking out" those coins in the old holders and resubmitting to even the same grading company can sometimes result in a higher grade making that coin a little more valuable. @@anguscollectibles7023 Pretty much stick with Morgan Dollars these days. I like pre-33 gold as well, but prices are way to high right now. I have been a collector for over 50 years, so I have been through many phases. lol Nickels, Half Dollars, Type Sets, etc.. Just love coins and history! 😀
