Some graded silver dollars and a pre-33 gold coin that mostly came from a big estate sale buy. Some good results and some that make me need smelling salts.
Greetings. Tough results, but the 1884-S Morgan was a good one. 👋👋👋👋👋 Thanks for sharing this video with us! Good luck to you on your next PCGS submission .
That gold coin was jewellery mounted unfortunately. Take a look at the rim discoloration pattern on the reverse, and the tooth marks on the obverse rim.
I've submitted coins from older proof and mint sets in their original sealed cellophane to hopefully avoid any "artificial/questionable toning" designations. I actually verified with PCGS if it was acceptable to submit that way and they said it was. All but one came back straight-graded. That was labeled "environmental damage".
QUICK TIP FOR YOU ANGUS: When you are submitting proof coins that are in the mint cellophane, DO NOT remove the coin from the cellophane. Instead, cut around the section of the cello that has the coin, being sure you don't accidentally open the section holding the coin, and then put the coin still in the cello in a flip, and package as normal. Maybe also leave a note in your submission saying it's in the mint cello. This will protect you from questionable color. Hope this helps!
Angus' are the best PCGS unboxing videos around. The extra steps like showing the cracked NGC slab, original price sheet, current value, and info, source, expectations, and close-ups are awesome! Keep them coming!
If you’re submitting a coin for a variety you have to name that variety by it’s designation. For example FS-101 etc. I’d recommend that you pick up both Cherry pickers guides. Just because you see some doubling means nothing because there is machine doubling and actual doubled dies which are completely different. I have a VAN book that is huge and only covers die varieties for Morgan’s and peace dollars but the Cherry pickers guide books are very good. If you don’t name the variety they will not attribute it but they will take your money
I saw one video where the presenter took a picture of a coin while in the cellophane and re- sent it with the coin to pcgs, they returned the picture and the coin straight graded instead of questionable color.
You know it’s still cracking out of your NGC holder. You could’ve just did crossover with variety attribution and they would’ve cracked it out of the holder for you. #TheMoreYouKnow BTW Anyone Called Dibs. On the PCGS holder
Send the quarter back with a pic in the cellophane like you did with the blue nickel. Should come back straight graded… Although, they’ll prob also start using your submission form as dart practice around the office 🎯😆😂. Great video, nonetheless!
Thanks! Yea have to be willing to show my fails if I'm going to show the wins. Hopefully someone out there avoids making my same mistakes after watching this lol
According to VAM world, for 1888-P, PCGS only recognizes a few VAMs and for all the ones that have reverse doubling, the doubling is on the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" not on the motto.
Questionable color seems to be a PCGS money maker these days. At least you didn't pay a show grade price for this blow off grade. Maybe resubmission (for someone else) would be an interesting investment.
Dude spend 20 bucks and get a 16 power loup. Even if that dollar was a 63 not worth spending money on 35-45 dollar coin. The quarter was just a bu from a mint set. Afraid to look at the rest. If this happens all the time mnnn need to learn. If you don't know the Vam they will not figure it out for you. Probably just recut.
I do have a few loupes, I'll try use them more. BUt yea, i've only landed 1 or 2 VAMs in past orders. It's tough especially without the right tools to diagnose. Oh well, figured I'd give them a try. Definitely not something I plan to do very much of in the future

Good luck to you on your next PCGS submission .
did better than last submission ... like this type of unboxing
That call "Hub Doubling" it is not a true double die, it can happen in many ways buy mainly bad die. Love the reveal video, keep up the good work 👍🏽
Thanks! Appreciate the info and compliment!

Yep. It was easy to tell. But still good to get gold graded.

I'll do that for sure next time! Wasn't sure if they'd punish me for trying that or not. Thanks for the tip!

Will be sending my coins into CAC when they go on line next year. I've seen ways to much inconsistency and questionable shenanigans from PCGS and NGC.
Looks like the spots on the $2.50 piece is the damage
Interesting that the 04 was jewelry mounted and presumably worn for a time and STILL remained uncirculated.
Look at the reverse back rim. Looks like it was in a jewelry mounting of some kind. The 1904 2 1/2 dollar gold coin.

That beautiful Morgan isn't a Double Die, it's Machine Doubling, aka Mechanical Doubling.
Just observation. Ithinkyou would be better off just leaving faded coins in slab, because trying to get that higher grade can backfire.

Damn was definitely a tough break on this one. At least there is the educational and entertainment value you can take away from it

I was wondering if I could get the gold box. I'll pay for shipping.
Sorry to hear that PCGS keeps hammering you down, always keep your head up! 💪💪
heck yeah brother keep up the videos love them

Leave it in the celli when it's like that

13:06....sorry, but that's an absolutely awful looking Peace Dollar....awful!
If you didn't know the exact VAM on that Morgan dollar how could you possibly know if PCGS even attributes the VAM? A little research goes a long way.
gold coin was jewelry. Look at the rim.
How many coins do you get graded each year?
It ebbs and flows. This past year, maybe 50. Last year, probably closer to 100.
