  • This is a review of Modulus Arms' new Router Jig Extreme as compared to their previous offerings. The product can be found at www.modulusarms.com/universal-...
There are a number of improvements in usability and speed compared to the previous generation. If you're looking for an 80% jig, this should be at the top of your list of ones to look at.

I was thinking the same thing. I have completed 8 lowers on my 5Dtactical jig pro. This looks exactly the same. That being the case it should work extremely well as does my 5D.

How many end mills did you go through?

They look the same as 5D and 80% arms because they are the same company.

MAJOR DESIGN FLAWS!!!. The drill tower needs a drill bushing to help keep the drill straight when using a hand drill. The end mill is made from high speed steel when it should be made from carbide or a TiN coated HSS or carbide for longer life. Aluminum is very abrasive, & the end mill wears out very quickly. The drills are the same as the end mill. The drill bushings in the side plates are cheap and allows your drill to move around when using a hand drill. They also wear out very quickly. The 21/64" drill used to drill the pilot hole makes the trigger slot oversize from the start. The last a most impotent flaw is that this jig mills the trigger pocket way oversize at .380 wide X .700 long. Mil-Spec calls for .312 wide X .600 long. this is very important to note because dirt & debris will get into the trigger pocket since there are large gaps around the trigger. When spending about $290.00 for the router jig & $75.00 for the tooling, I want a router jig or any other jig to mill out the Mil-Spec lower receiver to Mil-Spec dimensions not a paper weight. For the money, it is not worth it. FYI, 5D Tactical's Router Jig Pro has the same design flaws. Also for those who don't know, Modulus Arms was the first to come out with this type of router jig then an engineer from Modulus Arms went to work for 5D Tactical and made a couple of minor changes & called their version the Router Jig Pro.

lol. I have the 80 percent arms Easy Jig gen 3, which is basically the same jig as this one. Bottomline, the Jig gets the job done. There are no design flaws, looks like you were talking about he tools and bits mostly. And as far as the trigger, who cares if it's a small, larger. Can't satisfy people now and days. Geezus

This looks looks like a "clone" of the 5D Tactical Pro jig. Do you see any significant differences between the two ?

Not unless you consider different color anodizing to be significant.
Modulus said in their release announcement:
"You may have noticed the ability to place orders on our website was disabled for the past few months. We temporarily stopped taking new orders because our focus on dealing with internal issues prevented us from being able to offer the level of service that we felt every Modulus Arms customer deserves. We are excited to announce that we have found solutions to these issues and we’re back up and running stronger than ever. We have just launched our improved website along with a significantly improved jig design.

Our new Router Jig Extreme is the fastest and easiest to use jig on the market today. At $199.99, it is the world’s least expensive router jig that can complete AR-15, AR-9, and .308 lowers all in one jig. Modulus Arms invented the first truly universal router based jig, and although elements of our designs have been used without permission by a former staff member who recently launched another company, competing jigs do not come close to matching the quality, value, and ease of use that we offer.
      "
My guess is that 5D may have been that former staff member and that the design was initially a Modulus concept.

ok differences I can see are as follows 1. the pivot pin block is a single block on modulus that handles the pivot pins for both the AR15 and AR10 where as the 5D jig has 2 different blocks. 2. the modulus jig has one buffer plate that works for either AR15 and AR10 by changing which set of mount holes you used and where its mounted, once again where the 5D Jig uses 2 separate buffer plates. And 3. the guide pins on the modulus are one piece design instead of using 1 set of screws and 3 different sets of bushings. These are the only differences i can see.

Vacuum attachment is a good idea, but it sucks. It doesn't work very well for getting the chips.

How long does the speedmill bit last.. 1/lower or how many can you do on a single bit?

    • @jessemiller9577
      @jessemiller9577  Před 5 lety

I've gone through several lowers and no signs of dulling so far. Key is to use a good cutting oil to keep it lubricated. Also, because it directly attaches instead of being in a chuck, I've had fewer issues with it coming loose and breaking itself like other carbide mills.

It was one that had started on the previous generation jig. I wanted to see how the new jig worked from a milling perspective and didn't have a fresh one lying around.
