    In honesty, the M1 iMac is still AWESOME value considering you are getting a fully functional display with an actual OS. The Studio display is great if you have an existing MPB, Mac mini etc. Really wish we saw a higher refresh rate but at least you don't have to pay $1000 for the stand like on the Pro Display XDR :) Still remember that in the crowd at WWDC hahaha. Which display are you getting?

      Studio display for me sitting on my desk - so close to worth it for me, should’ve been same price as the LG 5k (and that one discontinued), and webcam really should’ve been better. Of course pro motion / mini led would’ve been great but probably then it’s a 2500 monitor.

  • @Scootir185
    @Scootir185 Před 2 lety +103

    Nice comparison. I think the XDR is also part of a sales trick Apple (and everyone else) uses to make their products look reasonably priced called anchoring. If you saw $1599.00 compared to other similar monitors you’d see it as outrageous, but they anchor the notion that a monitor can easily cost $6K then suddenly $1600 starts to seem almost reasonable.

    • @Slurpy2k8
      @Slurpy2k8 Před 2 lety +15

      So Apple priced the XDR based on what they planned to price a product that came out years later? Doubt it. The XDR actually isnt outrageously priced, it competes with reference class monitors that are 20-30K and even exceeds them. And there's nothing really out there you can compare the price of the Studio Display to.

    • @Scootir185
      @Scootir185 Před 2 lety +10

      @@Slurpy2k8 Didn’t say the XDR was a bad monitor for the money But it’s still crazy expensive. And yup - it’s pretty much the standard playbook to structure pricing in this way. Apple wins both ways - they get to sell some expensive monitors to true professionals but ultimately and more importantly leverage it to make a $1600 60Hz IPS display seem like it’s not overpriced. And that will help them sell a lot of those, probably at much higher margin.

      @@Scootir185 Very true. I have the LG Ultrafine 5k and was curious about the Studio display. It wasn't enough of an improvement for me to go out and purchase it. Have to say I was disappointed. The XDR should be seen in person. Aside from its ridiculous price, it has an amazing picture on it.

      @@Slurpy2k8 true !
      And don't forget that the XDR is the only 32'' 6K monitor on the market. That doesn't explain the price (this you did well) but it's a fact : if you want a 32'' "retina" (220 ppp / smoothing @2x), no other monitor can do that today
      Monitor manufacturers (LG, Samsung, etc) could easily propose a 32'' 6K thunderbolt monitor with just an IPS LED panel (but a good one), this would be a far less expensive model while allowing them comfortable benefits, but they prefer to fight on the field of cheap 27'' 4K ... if someone understand why .... ?

Just the one which will help a lot to make that decision here in India where we don't have Studio in the shops to see it in physical form. And I almost got a heart attack when you showed the small nick on the display. I am very confused between 24 + 1Tb SSD + 16GBUM OR 27 + Mac Mini 1TB + 16GBUM I am using 21.5 + 1TB + 8GB late 2013. I got the glossy version of the studio display even though there is a window right behind me. In the week that I have had it, the coatings on it are extremely impressive at controlling glare on a glossy display and it gets more than bright enough to see even during the brightest part of the day. Unless you absolutely cannot tolerate glare, then I don't think the nano-texture finish is worth it. As much as I enjoy the studio display, I'm very saddened that it is not a 27" iMac with M1 pro and Max SOCs. Apple probably could have reserved the M1 Ultra for the Mac Studio without upsetting too many people.

      Yes, I would look at it this way. If you want a stand alone desktop start with the M1 "mac mini" with 16GB and only if, it did not meet your needs would, I upgrade to the base model of the new "Mac Studio". However, if you prefer using an All-in-One computer the colorful 24-inch iMac is 100 percent the way to go. Also, if ordering an iMac please get the top of the line version with its matching mouse, track-pad, and full sized (with number pad) keyboard at about $2,000 (US). Trust me, with a computer from Apple there is nothing like buying a full and complete system to meet all your needs, both now and for many years into the future (smile...smile).

      @@davidsalgado5279 Yes I've tried it with my iMac before selling it for a MacBook.
      They are detected by macOS as just regular speakers so if you can two speakers at the same time in macOS then you can use studio display's and iMac's too although i didn't try it
      The main difference is the brightness and contrast and it is visible under certain viewing conditions but colors overall are great on both and I don't think you will have to readjust (you can always lower the brightness on the studio if you need).

    1) imac 32 inch / 6k with a reasonable price
    2) A new display 32 inch / 6k with a reasonable price

    1) imac 24 inch not enough big even if resolution seems ok
    2) Apple Studio Display is not enough big by 27 inch and not cheap
    3) Apple Pro Display XDR enough big and having most advanced features ever but no one can afford to buy that

    The monitor doesn’t support HDR and you say hdr content looks great?

    • @techinrl9869
      @techinrl9869 Před 2 lety +1

      From what Apple Insider says, it does support HDR, but doesn’t get any brighter than its normal 600 nits. They showed a CZcams video playing side by side with a Studio Display and the LG equivalent and the CZcams video showed the same video playing on the Studio Display in HDR while oddly it was not in HDR on the LG.

    • @ghost-user559
      @ghost-user559 Před 2 lety +1

      It supports HDR but they cannot legally claim it because it doesn’t have the full brightness to qualify for that label. So you would not get the full blacks or whites of a tv or display with the full “hdr” label, but for all intents and purposes it is fully capable of viewing HDR content (although with a reduced white and black range).

    • @techinrl9869
      @techinrl9869 Před 2 lety +1

      @@ghost-user559 Isn't there an HDR400 certification? Granted, most people consider that fake HDR, but it's still a certification standard. Most real HDR requires 800-1000 nits but I've seen some monitors with HDR400 certification.

    • @ghost-user559
      @ghost-user559 Před 2 lety +1

      @@techinrl9869 Well that’s kind of what I mean, it doesn’t pass certification because of the brightness limitations, but it CAN technically play HDR content in a less dynamic range.
      That’s the strange thing about all these silly LCD lobby and USBC and Thunderbolt and HDMI standards is they are all so specific, yet the manufacturers are all so different in the quality of cables and ports and components vary so drastically.
      So for HDR content this screen would function within its range of brightness to view HDR, but on a technicality it doesn’t have the contrast or brightness ratio to qualify for the official standards, which is actually why Apple doesn’t advertise it as HDR, but that’s interesting because they still gave the customer the ability to utilize HDR content. So it’s very interesting to include functionality you can’t advertise just for the benefit of the viewer. That’s a rare thing for corporations, so I can’t help but think they had supply chain issues that prevented full HDR implementation on these devices, and so they essentially “binned” the Display brightness capacity at the last minute until the mini led models.
