  • This video shows you how to install power folding mirrors on a MK7 GTI. This would be similar on all MK7 models including the Golf, Golf R, Alltrack, and Sportwagen. Protect your mirrors in a parking lot while also being really cool ; )

Add a string to the old mirror harness so when you pull the mirror you can attach the new harness to the string and guide it back through.

      @iambrandonpoo Před 3 lety

You can't do it. The wire coming from the mirror is hard wired into the mirror. There would be no way to pull it through since you'd have the mirror attached.

great video, I have 2015 golf tdi and used this video for the passenger side replacement of the mirror assembly without the folding option. T27 bit used, worked for me and some helpful tips below as commented by others. I should have watched full video first as my panel did not sit properly because 2 panel clips stayed on door and missed when putting them back on. Again watch the whole video first... Thanks DAP

Great vid coming from a tech stand point. I like how you use almost all the proper tools. Customers always think that tools are free or something and dont understand the enormous personal cost. You should make up some DAP pocket screw drivers and bone tools! Can never have too many pocket screw drivers. One point i can improve on is using a piece of string to attach to the harness before pulling it out, so you can tie the pulled end back through the correct path after reattaching it to the new harness.

Thanks for doing a detailed instruction Paul., was looking to do this install for a while. Good to know that they also offer the European version for this. Always thought that installing a folding mirror will lose the blind-spot monitor functionality.
You could have also mentioned about the door controller module, since some of the lower end controllers do not support this electrically. I believe some vendors like USP Motorsports and Ali express offer the controllers as a part of their kits.

Save your self a lot of time, when you remove the older mirror and wiring.
Tape some string to the old wiring.
Then retape to the new mirror wiring and pull and feed it though.

probably should have attached soft twine or your grabber tool before you removed the original harness. Then it will be threaded as you pulled it out. Simply attach it to the new harness, and pull through. There is a body tool that has a forked end and is very useful in preventing door clip loss or damage.

nicolas Boukas It is a cool upgrade but I just feel that there are a few other upgrades meet the same criteria while also providing more utility (in my opinion). for example, DIY back up sensors, DIY back up camera, DIY fog lights , side cameras (if that is something that can be done this way), halogen lights on cars that don't have that as an option, etc.

@@xabhax back up sensors can see well beyond what you fan see by "simply turning your head". My stock Ram sits so high that I cant see things like my retaining walls when im backing up my driveway. The hood is so long and tall that I cant see the retaining walls when Im pulling in either but you know what can? Some cheap sensors in the front and back bumpers. There are absolutely varying degrees of usefulness to new tech. I would absolutely take back up sensors or a good back up camera over folding mirrors

You can buy cheaper non-DAP-compatible mirrors too. Non-DAP power folding mirrors can be had for ~$200 shipped from vendors at www.aliexpress.com.

I think it all washes out in the end. In Europe you see a lot of cheap small diesels in otherwise nice cars where the US get high horsepower applications that obviously cost more to manufacture. Also, a lot of EU regulations require items that the US doesn't. (rear fog light, auto start/stop, aspherical mirrors, etc.) What I've always been curious of is the additional cost to manufacture two of the same thing.. I think that's where most money is lost. It would make more financial sense to have one product that is usable globally.

Do you have parts for a Polo GTI? I live in Mexico and I know that in the US you didn't get this car but you should sell these as you would get a lot of people from Mexico buying parts... I know some of the engine components are compatible as the Polo GTI uses an AE888 Gen 3 engine but I'm also looking for exterior parts. Have an amazing day!

Nawaf Saaty good luck. Almost no one wants them unless they are going back to stock and they threw out theirs. Try vortex or the mk7 private sales facebook group.

really? that's all they do? move inboard a couple inches? whats the point? Do people really park in such tight spots? How the hell do you get out of the car then? Through the hatch?
    So many questions. LoL

If you live in a very populated area like I do in LA, yes there are very narrow streets, and a lot of the time parking is very hard to find, and also there are a lot of very stupid drivers here so yes it is a good thing to have them fold out of the way, most the time its just enough.
If you live in a small town then it's probably not an issue for you and not needed.

philo lee no one said that, he asked what people would need these for, I explained why one would. if you take it as me making fun of him for not living in a "real" city than you have some issues you need to figure out lol.

Right. Boston isn't a real city with narrow roads and challenging parking.
