In this video we show how to remove the rear wiper on a MK7 GTI and replace it with the ECS Tuning Billet Rear Wiper Delete Plug. We walk through the removal of the rear wiper, removal of the wiper motor, and removal of the plastic hatch trim.
Removing the rear wiper gives a clean symmetrical appearance to the back of your hatch. Once installed the complete assembly seals against water intrusion by way of a double-O-ring sealing design.

In my opinion, the limit between good tuning and bad tuning is when the practicality of the car lowers down with the added tuning items. If you want to make a show car, yeah, remove it, it looks very clean. But if you do this on your daily...damn, it's a stupid move.

Very usefull on the golf models. The rear end is almost always dusty.
With back up cameras and sensors, you literally do not need a rear wiper. I have Never used my rear wiper and i live in a region that experiences long winters.

More like a "dumber" look.
I just use rain x on my rear windows and it works great for visibility. Only use I’d see for a rear wiper is if you’re driving in snow and the vortexes around the rear of the vehicle are causing the snow to build up between the element lines of the defroster, but that probably wouldn’t even be an issue with a car that’s warmed up inside.
drev1 This is not clean, there is a black knob on your rear window now, do you really think that looks clean? XD Its a cheapo solution. Why don't you replace the rear window with a custom one? One without a hole, dark tinted color and no heat stripes? That is clean, but not ripping out the wiper and motor and putting in a little butt plug for your ride.
If you're gunna do this, better off ordering the Kill All Wipers kit, sits much more flush with the glass

Got this kit and the install was a breeze, have to put a little muscle removing the trim but don't be afraid , they do pop out. Myself I never used the rear wiper, and I am on my 5th GTI from a mk2 to my current mk7. Winter I scrape the rear window, and when it rains it's visible enough. I cringe when I see a fellow Vw and you see that etched line where they use rear wiper. Any Vw enthusiast will appreciate this item, great job ECS!!

Might have to pick this up.. I’ve had my car for almost a year and have never used the rear wiper. I live in Texas so we get some big rain storm and you can still see out the back glass with out using the rear wiper

In Nevada we rarely have snow days and some rain days, I don’t even take the car out when the weather is bad, therefore I have no use for the rear wiper
What did you do with the washer line? Did you plug it somehow to stop it squirting fluid all over your interior?
I could be wrong but only thing connected to the motor is the plug. The washer line goes up towards the third brake light where it comes out. You’ll just have washer fluid all over your window

What do you do about the screen wash hose, do you put a stopper in or is that not necessary? I’m just wondering if screen wash will still be fed through or does removing the motor prevent that? Thanks
Screenwash comes out from the third brake
light at top of rear screen... it will still work
just fine... it is only recommended to block
the hose if it is attached to the wiper itself as
some makes/models have this set-up. 😉👍

Why do people remove rear wipers and install DIY plugs? what is the reason?
Some people have bike racks on their GTI and the arm snaps every time the front wipers are on because the rear ones activate automatically when you reverse... which is absolutely stupid.

I rather take a glass one and glue it in. And also maybe include that if you accidentally press the handle for rear wiper sprayer it's gonna spray in the trunk inserts.. I always re-route the tube in the front so it just sprays somewhere that isn't harmful..

Did this on my mk5 and and never missed it. Definitely going to do it on my mk7. The rear wiper is ugly and just collects dirt. It is surprisingly useless in the rain.

Probably because you don´t use it? i don´t because it kind of scratches the glass and i drive a truck for a living and we don´t have a center rear mirror so when reversing i only use the left and right mirrors, however the rear window never gets to the point where i can´t see out of it because i wash my car 2 times a week. This is for those who don´t use their rear wiper, gives a cleaner look :)

What did you do with the washer hose?
If it helps, I bend mine then used a cable tie to hold it in place.
1/2 nylon cap and silicone does ya just as well for 2$
