My favorite part of these elder-scrolls videos are the first 30-50 minutes, when it’s a fantasy tavern RPG. The chaos is too real and hilarious 🤣😆🤣
You read that article about James McAvoy having to burn his Elder Scrolls disc years back as it was too addictive! This campaign came to mind when I read it! 😄🤙
Tavernkeeping simulation campaign when?
I’m hoping part 3’s plot is something like a rival tavern opens up across the street and they have to try and sabotage each other to keep their business.
At level 20,they still haven't left the tavern. The rival crew have also leveled and nothing else is left standing within thirty miles.
Seriously, im the same. I could watch hours of these folks trying to run a bar
As a DM who can't make sounds effects, I FELT Marisha's struggle in the depths of my soul
99.99% of us are not Michael Winslow or Matthew Mercer. Using descriptions has worked for 40 years. Don't be afraid to use an app or another program for sound effects if you like. When you tell your players " You hear a chilling scream " and then it comes from nowhere it's just as cool.

There's usually a trend. Matt's games tend to be colossal in grandeur, Liam's get all dark, gory and have deeper meaning. Taliesin goes entertaining/ horror, Sam's devolve into utter canon killing chaos and Marisha's games make me laugh so hard I cry a little
YES!! i actually really enjoy Marisha's games. They are a little mystery, comedy, and the plot twist is fun. Easy to follow and fun to watch.
Marisha's one shots are just a delight. It feels like I am watching something from the theatre
Honey Heist is probably my second or 3rd favorite one shots.
Favorite is definitely the Grog one, but the first two honey heists had me dying.

Honey heist 2 is my favorite pick me up video. The whole thing is gold.
I still need to watch honey heist 3, I stopped during the first few minutes of the game, when they were still introducing the characters cause it was late after watching 1 and 2 back to back.
@@fourd8438 I’ll admit, I haven’t watched 3 yet either- only got maybe 15 minutes in. It started very slow, in my opinion, which I suppose isn’t totally uncommon for one-shots, but considering most of the cast wasn’t the players I’m used to, I just wasn’t as committed to catching up on it. Someday soon, maybe!
I have watched HH3, it started a bit slow. But if you recognised the references in beginning, you know the kind of tone the one shot was going for. And it went bonkers in the best way.
Sams levitating tray sounds perfect for a trademark Bethesda glitch
I used to live in a rural town, and whenever a health inspector rolled in, the first restaurant hit called up all the other (three) places in town with a warning. The first half hour is -real-.

Thank you, I just popped down to the comments section to say the same! Taliesin Jaffe has done time in a kitchen!
I just love how Marisha took all of that and made it a part of a plot hook.
THIS was too real
Taliesin genuinely seems like he dabbled in EVERYTHING at least a little. Like, he introduced Caduceus and all I could think was “there’s a man who spent some time with dead people”.

So excited for this group to be returning in this weirdly wholesome chaos story. And super excited for more Marisha in the DM chair - I loved her as the Bear Master for Honey Heists and she absolutely rocked it with this.

At first I was bummed about Matt being missing, but she did a great job! Sound effects were priceless 😂
Can this be more than a 3 shot? I'm so invested in all of these characters and their chemistry. Would love to see the arc they go through to become the best bar/inn/tavern owners or whatever they want to do.
I like this, but I also like the idea of Bethesda writing the characters into the game if they stay put long enough.

It's refreshing to see a game so well executed that shows you don't need fancy maps and minis to have a great time. Don't get me wrong I love Matt's battlemaps, but they seem to be having just as much fun like this
That is true. And i would like to add that Matt's maps use to be hand drawn in his home game and for like the first half of campaign one.
The fancy maps came later when they gain traction and dwarven forge got accessible.
i use minis [unpainted] and map tiles from the DnD board games, and we make do just fine.
Still hilarious when we go to an empty room but the map tile has a fountain in it.

My favorite is Sam no doubt, he doesnt know any of the rules, but it is amazing
I want to give this a thumbs up but it's at 69 and I have a rule against ruining that... lol
She does a very good job as a DM, but I actually don't like it when a DM gets too enthusiastic (except for rare occasions when they are actually blown away by a genius or crazy player action), I prefer the DM to be the calm focus point of order who keeps the chaos that typically are the player actions gently on track. My favorite one-shot DMs from the core group are Taliesin and Liam.

Third one should be dm'd by Sam. His deep knowledge of the lore would make it fascinating.
I do love that despite Laura having played a major character in TES before (she's Serana from Skyrim's Dawnguard DLC), it's 100% fitting with Sam's entire being to look up strange lore facts to simply drop on people. Losing his spines, remembering the planet is Niirn, etc. TES lore especially is batshit insane once you start digging into things. Stuff like the stars literally being holes in the shell that forms the sky and act as a brief glimpse into the magical realm beyond and were made by the gods noping out straight through that shell, or the other planets in the solar system technically being the other planes of Oblivion, etc
@@VegetaLF7 wait Laura voiced Serana? I had no idea that's really cool
@@insomimaniac Yup. Her Vex voice is pretty similar to her Serana one. Fun fact, the role actually predates Critical Role's origins by a couple of days. Dawnguard came out December 4th, 2012 while the infamous home game that gave birth to what would eventually lead to Critical Role campaign 1 was December 8th 2012. While we were getting to know Serana as players, Laura was starting her adventures as Vex with the others. Perhaps her recent experiences with playing Serana helped shape Vex's persona and voice.
@@VegetaLF7 I'm pretty sure the other planets are the Aedra
Wait, that stuff about the Argonian spines actually is TES canon? I thought he was just making shit up because he's Sam.
How amazing would it be for elder scrolls six to have this tavern hidden somewhere in the game?

@@AltrTheEgo ooof this comment didn't age well
Say what you will about the low rolls, but when it comes to defeating bosses, these characters manage to kill people faster than you can say "How do you want to do this?"
Yeah, Abbria gets the job done! 😁👍
The best Elder scrolls sitcom show ever
Honestly, fuck the war and the daedric invasion and all that, I'd be entertained purely by these people running their tavern.
I love the guar fight because they're essentially a bunch of restaurateurs fighting a very angry cow.
Next purchase for the tavern: an enchanted door, maybe replacing the bell so that it announces new customers.
Added bonus: That would make the door itself a _magical item._ Magical items are effectively indestructible... which means you can't, for example, *_hammer nails_** into them.*
It would just be fun to have Diven stand there trying to nail his next little note to the door and having about as much success as he had opening the kitchen doors. He'll eventually give up and just Scotch Tape it on or something, but it'll be a nice little annoyance.
That's a common misconception! Most magic items have resistance to all damage, but they're not indestructible. Only artefacts are practically indestructible. This is why, for example, a Broom of Flying isn't super expensive- it's actually pretty likely to be destroyed by any AOE attack.
@@Scott-ql2kx Well, they seem to be nearly indestructible in Mercerverse, so someone binging on CR exclusively might have gotten the wrong idea.
What if the nails are magically enchanted to pierce a door of any material?
@@Scott-ql2kx there does reach a point though, where you face AOE damage with such a frequency that having magical items becomes more of a hindrance than an advantage. So a lot of DMs tend to just say that all magical items are effectively indestructible so that their players don't hate them or become scared of every combat encounter with casters or creatures with breath weapons
This group is a gift. I know it's only 3 episodes, but I'd love to check in with them periodically.
I'd love to be a regular at their tavern. I'd happily bring my son.
Marisha's trademark "Inspec-SHIIONE"
I love how dynamic each character is, not too boring and not too exaggerated. Not a single goofy/comical character but I can't stop laughing.

I see you Marisha 👍
"This was supposed to be a thing, the climactic battle..."
I feel you, Marisha. Got a game where I need to give temporary invulnerability to my bosses so the players won't end it in half a round.
Imagine doing this with a roge assassin lmao
Let me tell you about my brother's paladin savage. He got the initiative on an old red dragon, whipped out his dragon bane greatsword, made his 2 attacks, nat 20s on both, then smites with both. Killed it in 1 round. Nobody else even got to go.
@@johncromer2603 Paladins, when they get angry, will end your whole carreer.
It's why I multiclassed my fighter as a paladin, thus resulting in a pit fiend getting one-rounded when the DM was trying to instill tension and a sense of dread in the party. We had a diviner wizard and two party members with access to spells like polymorph and hold monster, and I had three attacks per turns, action surge, mastery dice, smite dice and a holy avenger sword.
Cue the DM, "....you were supposed to just survive until help arrived."
56:10 lol the way she says that, "I grab the torch that I ripped of the Walllll, I grab my Axe that's above the Baaaar"
I love that they keep getting ideas for their tavern on their missions “boozy kombucha!”
I adore the character combination so much, I could easily watch this for more than 10 episodes. I m just hoping that more cooperations will bring the characters back
As someone who didn't really like ESO when it first launched and paid no mind whatsoever to the game, I have _never_ been this invested on its success, because if the game does well there'll be more expansions, and if there are more expansions there'll be more of _this_

1:05:38 Grelnok "giving" Slaughter one of his quills back. XD Laura Baily is Awesome!!!
I love seeing an actual play that is theatre of the mind. Ive struggled doing that in the past and Marisha did a great job of it!
You have to have the right kind of players for that to work these days. There are so many rules lawyers and people who play just to crunch numbers, and that doesn't work with theater of the mind. The DM and players have to be a little more flexible and be ok with less precision. I prefer theater of the mind, but most of my players would rather have all the cool maps and such, so I almost never get to do it.
Marisha *KILLED* it. Damn, forgot how fun this group is.
It's always a one-shot. Even if it turns into a campaign because the dice thought that I'd be hilarious to fail at just the right time, it's still a one-shot.
Great Job Marisha! All theatre of the mind and totally fantastic.
I'm like 10 min in and I'm already so impressed by Marisha as a DM! (I haven't watched the other OS that she DMd so I'm gonna remedy that soon!) I really hope we get to see more of her in the DM chair!
Her other one-shots were so comedy and rule of cool focused, I was really impressed by how well she did with more of a real story and a bigger ruleset to learn. Not that she didn't do great with the other ones, the Honey Heists are some of my favorite non-campaign content on CR, but it was just a _very_ different style and she nailed it

Oh yeah, the Khajjit breeds, that are based arround the lunar cycles? And one of them is basically a common house cat?! :D
@@David_Blake91 Yup, and that version is basically worshiped by the other Khajiit. They have just as much intelligence as the other breeds but are stuck in housecat form rather than humanoid form like the ones we see in the games.
I mean, the lore about the Hist and the argoninas is pretty bonkers too, in a good way. :)
@@suntiger745 But the craziest aspect is that the lore for Khajiit and Argonians are all surface-level weirdness for TES. Compared to dragon breaks, the stars being holes in Aetherius, Numidium, and CHIM, Khajiit and Argonian lore is relatively tame.
@@TheCrimsonElite666 Yeah, that's fair. :)
It goes from Khajiit and Argonians/the Hist, to the Daedric Princes, to Numidium, CHIM and the other really out there stuff.
Definitely gives TES it's own unique flavor though. :)
I love this little series so much and Marisha is amazing as a DM. My favorite are the beginnings when they just roll play owing a tavern, its hillarious
Sam continually poking fun at the "stanima" is killing me as a dyslexic person 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
As someone who went through a culinary program and worked in restaurants for 7-8 years, I love this way too much.
Man I've missed seeing Sam. Love his energy.
Marisha is just such a natural DM. It's fantastic how she just goes with flow, leans into whatever the players are doing and still tells her story. She makes it look so easy. It really is not. It is such a gift. I will admit to being surprised by how good she is every time. The Honey Heists were very fun, so light and funny and just such a good time between friends. I enjoyed the one shot she did which had Becca Scott in it... I forget the name .. something society? That was great too. Really is a special gift. And I think massively under appreciated.
1:21:00 I appreciate Aabria’s hustle asking about attacks of opportunity on forced movement
Watching Marisha grow from awkward in Campaign 1 to more nuanced and confident in Campaign 2 to expertly DMing One Shots has been absolutely fantastic
I'm pretty sure the awkward one in campaign 1 was to at least 90% the intentionally socially awkward character Keyleth, not actually Marisha.
@@chrisrudolf9839 Marisha said in her between the sheets interview that part of why she made Keyleth so unsure of herself and insecure was because she kind of felt that way starting out at a table full of already well-known established people in the voice acting industry. It might not have been the case when they started the stream because that was level 10 already so I'm sure they all knew each other by that point but who knows.
I wouldn’t say “I forgot how fun these characters were,” because I was genuinely excited to see this upload, but I forgot just how much I loved them and the beautiful chaos of this particular table. This was so great in every way.
Ask not for whom the Grel knocks. It knocks for thee
This was honestly a nice light hearted game of D&D. Different vibes but I liked it
"It's worse" is the new "We're running, it's bad"
Aabria getting so many bad rolls just to kill the boss at the end was AWESOME!!!! I love this three-shot so much!!!!!!!!!! Marisha as a dm is great I lovethem all so much k bye
Uh...spoilers
@@robertabugelis3962 Pro tip, don't scroll through the comments if you haven't seen the full video. There will always be spoilers.
@@robertabugelis3962 Just wait till you get to the Dragon swooping down and destroying the tavern! Great stuff! 😁🤙
Abbria rules!! (That bug controlling elf is pretty good too, I guess) 😄👍
@@trinidadtheislandman4065 I really liked that the dragon killed the traitor of a horse tho.
Yay, Marisha! We need more of her as DM/GM (was it BM with The Honey Heist?)
yup! bear/beast master
“I think I want kids to teach tiny murder”
"He was supposed to be a thing and he's not now" - I have never heard anyone summarize being a DM so accurately
I could honestly just watch them play out a regular day in the tavern xD
Marisha is so good I had forgotten the first episode was dmd by Matt
Heck yeah. Heck yeah! HECK YEAH! Love this group so much! So glad it's more than just one oneshot. I love how easy going and like... reminiscent of a home game these are.
Edit: gods. Tal's description of the kitchen 'upgrades' is too real. Can relate.
OMG the mother at the start was hilarious 😂
So while waiting on Campaign 3:
Matt Liam and Ashley get EXU
Marisha Talisen Sam and Laura get Elder Scrolls
and Travis just has to wait lol
@NorthSoundGaming /DM the third part???
Now we know Travis got Ashley's one shot :D
Gotta love that marisha said "it's like a bukkagi"
“I now work for the department of health and safety”
I laughed SOOOO hard lmao.
Having played ESO since BETA I truly wish this Elder Scrolls integration to D&D gets officially published!
I could watch this party run their tavern for a whole 4h games. I love them!
I looked away for a quick second, then suddenly, Marisha's voice f***ing changed. scared the shit out of me. 😂😂😂
Although I would not be disappointed by a reprisal of Marisha as GM my low key hope is that Liam GMs the finale.
Don't you want them to live?! :P
You foresaw the future!!!
13:57 Like the soldiers, the pork platter would get me to Grelnok's Skull, but Mallory's Specials made my mouth water!!!
What a pleasure to see how Marisa got it. She played along with players ideas to make them look cool - that’s what DMs are for.
Now THIS is what I've been looking forward to.
Marisha super awesome DM!!! So many epic and cool moments... from the "spider web" to the "yes it's him, why not"! I could not stop watching! Fantastic!
Imagine if they ended putting this tavern in the game as an easter egg lol
