The in-game start date for the episode was probably discernable if you know Elder Scrolls lore, but that’s way too deep a dive for me to do right now.
Mr.Rhexx is a DnD lore channel I really like. It's a good place to find some of the weirder forgotten lore on a lot of monsters. And he used to do Elder Scrolls lore videos, so it's on brand for this.

At least they didn't do the standard Elder Scrolls you start in prison.
_Hearthstone_ is always in a tavern.
In the game I keep imagining, we always start with stake in the tavern. Why not? Goblins come and attack or something, but why not give the player property and standing in the town?

When I first heard they were going to do an Elder Scrolls one-shot I was like "ooh what are they gonna do? Adventurers doing a dungeon crawl, mercs fighting in the war?" Nope, they're running a tavern... Which given what most roleplayers in ESO do these days, is actually very appropriate.
Oh really?? That sounds like a good time!
I do literally spend all my time furnishing my houses...one of which maaaay definitely be a tavern
Also! Once one of my guilds did a murder mystery where we had to make like investigation checks and find clues and interrogate people. It was fun!
@@artificergunn3065 Ok but tbh a guild made for the sole purpose of being used as a platform to play D&D over the internet sounds super nice, especially if you're in it for the roleplaying/exploration aspect of both games!

Right? "Fuck off. Here's your food. Enjoy."

Right down to the asshole cook. I've literally had the "so should I tell them we don't have it?..." interaction lol
Right? Former line cook/current DM here who is still in contact with some of his old crew. Some of whom have expressed vague interest in DnD. Been toying with a version of this to try and pull them in.
It is so impressive how Matt sees the map and positions in his head. He literally pictures it and answers questions about flanking. Very impressive. I also love how he sticks to rules and knows exactly when it's okay to break them to keep the story fun and engaging 😍🙂
Jazz
Well, he's been doing this almost every week for 7-8 years. You practice enough, you can play a full game of chess with someone without ever actually seeing the board.
I mean, it's a pretty normal endeavor to perform. Is that just me? I feel like everyone can do that
Mallory's disappointment that the sandwich platter was untouched and the frustration that he had to dish out an inferior product just resonates a bit too much with me😅
I have never heard a more threatening waiter than Taliesin. It's amazing.

It was really wonderful to see Sam roll with his bad rolls/luck and continue to have fun and have Slaughter try his best to do damage/help the others, etc. until... :D
All the players have something to teach if you watch how they play, and Sam's best lesson is how to roll with bad rolls. He's so good at it, and I try to use him as inspiration when I roll badly in my own games.
Some of his best rolls are the bad rolls. He's just such a good roll player and "yes and" actor.
@@briannenurse4640 Yep! The key is to bring the perspective that you're not trying to win; you're trying to tell a great story -- and maybe today your best story is about how your character had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

well, time to make a druid that thinks bird nests are a valid form of currency.
Slaughter at the end of the fight: "You've been served, good sir. Now please, leave our respectable establishment."
Aha, so Matt is taking a page out of Liam's book for bland, everyday beginning scenarios for his players. That was one of the most hilarious things I've seen, I was cackling all night.
Taliesin's character is what would happen if his Owlbear character from Darrington Brigade would enter cathering business. I love it.

2. This group is very disorganized (as usual)
3. Laura looks GORGEOUS! (as usual)
I have a sneaking suspicion Will Wheaton has visited the studio while everyone was out, and handled everyone's dice.

When Sam said he was closing his eyes for that last attack I was expecting Matt to make him roll at disadvantage.
That is a hangable offense.
I bet the only reason he didn’t have Sam role at disadvantage was because he hadn’t hit anything yet 😂
I'm surprised "The List" didn't also make the list since everything else did. This combination of players is absolute gold, btw. If this got turned into a full campaign, I'd watch every damn second of it.

What is this ancient tome? *reads title* "Lusty Argonian Maid"... 🙄
The fact that the sandwich platter is literally also the ploughmans platter kills me
Taliesin Jaffe: doesn’t need the Bless spell to remind you to add your d4’s
I love how no matter what character it is Sam is always the comedic relief in the group. I love this guy
I still have an hour to go, but I have to say: I am in love with these characters. Like, they might be a little bit naive and share together half a brain cell - but they're trying! And what else can a person do then giving their best to keep their still unnamed tavern going. Everyone fakes it 'till they make it.
And the dice just aren’t on their side :)
As a Restaurant Manager, I would hire them all on the spot.
Please make this a series. I know it says part one but I love these characters and it’d be awesome to continue their story Bethesda!
Also, Matt, you’ve talked about wanting crit role to eventually grow beyond the main cast playing campaigns and bring in new people, this would be a dope semi trial run....
Plus Aabria and Michelle are DOPE!
Please please please
welp u got ur wish with Aabria ig
SPOILER...
love how with critical role, Sam is consistently either an absolute beast in combat with plans and a strategy (Vehcna fight) or a walking talking dumpster fire with terrible rolls (see video above) there is no in between with him.
Taliesins character is a cross between Owlbear man and Cadeuceus and I'm here for it.
Sam’s first fucking line as slaughter! I LOVE HIM! I WOULD DIE FOR HIM! ASAHHHhHhHhHh
Why is Sam so darn adorable with this character and this outfit? It's like watching an adorably inept panda.
Lore-wise Bosmer would be the least worried about undercooked pork
3:13:52 Sam's magnificent fecklessness throughout the game was perfectly summed up by Taliesin, "We brought a LARPer to a swordfight." But can you ever really count Sam Riegel out...?
Listen. Everyone did such a great job here. But can we talk a minute about how awesome Aabria's and Laura's makeup and hair were?
Laura's makeup usually is pretty and cute, but this makeup is absolutely HOT.
Aabria's hair and dress are so amazing, cant wait for more of her.
@@KoNekoNoUta You're gonna get that, starting in a couple weeks.
This made me want to see Laura play a barbarian or orc next campaign. Snarky, no fucks given, Yasha-like Laura is a delight
@@TroySpartan247 So long as she wears the eye make up and that vest reappears every now and then she can play whatever character she wants
Laura some elf experience.
And that children is how I unlocked a ancient lock with a literal meat hook
Taliesin's character was created with such intent and I love it.
Sam infusing Tal's weapon to heal him when Tal gets a hit is hilarious and genius 😂
Sam was amazing. A good humorous character is the easiest to have fun with in a one shot.
Love Laura's wink to Matt 1:29:10 after he tries a fake out when she jumps over the trap. Such a charming personality.
I am 100% convinced Matt secretly "voiced" the gates within the draugr ruins in Skyrim xD
"I'm not that edible, I know where I've been"
