Not only was that Gunnarson's first goal in the playoffs as well as tie the series, Gunnar will forever be in the history books as the guy who got the first ever game winning goal in Blues Stanley Cup finals history!
Now that's a cool fact there
He also called game during the intermission before the start of OT. He told berube he wanted one more shot while they were both taking a piss. One of the greatest stories in blues lore lol
@@johndempsey5370 indeed. The Boston Pee Party.
Polak became the butt of jokes as his tenure dragged on in Toronto, but he sure got some value in return in trades. And he came back from that terrible ankle break when everyone thought it was career ending. 806 NHL games and counting, bad players don't get to play that many games.
Steve would love a teemu Selanne to Anaheim trade when Winnipeg shipped him out
Naslund for Stojanovic trade also
@@aliceliska For Pittsburgh: it was tough.
For Vancouver: It was a godsend.
Fun fact, Villie Husso was traded to Detroit this offseason for a 3rd round pick so St. Louis's side is still alive.
That pick was used on Aleksanteri Kaskimaki, still too early to know anything on him. He does have 12 pts in 34 games in the Finnish Liiga and had 4 pts in 7 games at the World Juniors, however the Blues do need to sign him to a contract or risk losing his rights (they drafted him in 2022 #73 overall, so they have until the 2026 draft to sign him iirc)
and muzzin has not played since the first half of the 2022-23 season with a spine issue
Andersen's numbers were always good, he was a rock. His injuries, and inconsistencies' based mostly on a constantly revolving 'D' corps, were the main issue. I strongly believe he is a goalie that could have been better, if given the chance.
Freddie was the best goalie the Leafs have had in years. He gets too much hate from some people. I hope Mrazek works out and he and Campbell can have success, but I'll miss Andersen, hope he gets a nice ovation when he returns.
Please do the martin st louis trade tree when he went to the rangers
They’re prerecorded already for this batch of trade trees
That trade tree technically begins with Messier, yes you read the right, Mark Messier's signing rights were sent to San Jose Sharks for future considerations, those future considerations ended up being the draft pick the Rangers used to select Ryan Callahan.
@@ShantyIrishman wow
The production for this summer’s Trade Trees is awesome. New graphics, fun music, I love it.
The guy yelling “That’s a terrible trade!” Was me. I remember being so pissed that the Flyers didn’t move up. I remember the Wells Fargo Center lighting up Bettman with boos every time he got on the mic. Welcome to Philly!
I was just watching the Matt duchene trade tree then this pop up nice
Dude same!😂
He already did it
Blues fan here. I'm happy with it! Boom boom Gunnarson wasn't great, but a very solid piece. One of those guys that won't get a ton of stats but did a lot of small things.
For me, as a German hockey fan, but not so into it... I would say he is a crucial piece for the team, regarding chemistry and being the glue for the team. not that typical scoring mashine, but one of those unsung heros
@@marcusrosenberg9088 I wouldn't say he is a crucial piece. He was just solid for not putting up lots of points. There are many players that can do that.
I see blues. I press like. Congrats to gunnarsson for retiring with a cup. I hope Steve is enjoying time off 👍
I'm really gonna miss Freddy. He really was so good for Toronto. I know the last two seasons he wasn't up to par, but i really hope proves all the doubters this season that wanted him gone wrong in Carolina this season. Never cheered for another team besides Toronto, but I'll be rooting for the Canes and Freddy as well this season.
An Erik Karlsson trade tree would be interesting
Just thought I’d mention today is the Wayne Gretzky trade’s 33rd birthday
You guys should do the trade that sent Trevor Linden from the Canucks to the Islanders. It set up the next two decades for the Canucks - West Coast Express, Sedin twins, Luongo and Markstrom
Do Cal Clutterbuck for Nino Neiderreiter trade tree.
Throwback to Owen Nolan and Sandis Ozolinsh trade both all stars. Ozolinsh won a cup in Colorado and Nolan was a franchise player in San Jose
When’s the Phil Kassel Trade Tree Continued coming?
trade tree time !!! lets go these are the best !!
Steve I did the Math on elimination games!!!! He played in four and in reverse chronological order his % was .905 .900 .829 and .944. Overall was .893 (109 of 122)
Short question - when is a save percentage measured as a "good" value? everything over .9?
Who’s the new editor on these! They’re doing a great job! The sound mixing needs some work but overall I love the new style!
I love these trade trees
great trade tree. this reminds me trading up theory ! start with a paper clip and trading that to getting something more valuable ie. a house or a vacation.
Can we get the Craig Rivet trade?
Greatest story thus far of the trade trees
Could we see how the Habs screwed up by trading away Rod Langway, future Norris winner?
how about 2x cup champ sergachev
Could we see the Shanahan for Pronger trade? It was a real big trade that ended up even bigger. Love the videos keep it up
Please do the Jack Johnson to Los Angeles trade tree from Carolina
Steve says he's still hoping but his podcast and personal youtube channel rants have determined that was a lie.
In the End, this trade worked out well for both sides altho I would say the Blues won that one because they got a Cup and the Leafs are still waiting after 50+ years.
Loved Polák in Blues, big scary defensive defenseman.
I think this trade aged like fine wine for St. Louis
You need to do the Chris gratton/ Michael renberg trade tree that eventually becomes the Jeff Carter Jakub Voracek trade and now cam Atkinson
I was there too, not many people were there and the people that were didn't really react to the trade. Except that one guy
10:50 we finna need that trade tree Steve
Please start uploading more of these. I’m sure the views should justify atleast 2 per week.
You may be underestimating how much work it takes to get these done. I think Steve talks about that specifically in the Lindros-tree video since it's an extreme example. They're evidently upping the production-quality this _'season'_ too (nice work btw, Drew); that's going to take more work/time.
Roman Polak, Connor Carrick, Nazem Kadri, Mitch Marner, and Fred Andersen, the only Leafs players who played against Boston in the playoffs in 2018.
Husso has a lot of potential as well, excited for his future as a Blue.
here when this tree is still going
Steve: I value games played.
Berg and Belak with a combined 643 games for the Leafs.
Steve crying: It's not nothing.
I mean two 2nds for Polak and Spaling? 😳 sheesh
Also to eat up Raffi Torres' contract...
Hey Steve, how about the trade tree of how the John Kordic vs Russ Courtnall trade lead Montreal to their last Stanley cup? That was one of the most one-sided trade in history!
If you need a co-producer / research assistant on a Tom Barrasso + pick from Sabres FOR Doug Bodger + Darrin Shannon to Penguins trade tree, I'm all-in.
I was at the Watch Party at Enterprise Center when Gunnarsson scored the OT winner. The place obviously went nuts, but it was extra loud since we lost badly in Game 1. Looking around during the celebration, I remember looking at my friends saying “We can actually do this” like the run hasn’t really set in just yet. Hearing the “Let’s go Blues chants” lead all the way to the streets was legitimately the best moment I’ve experienced as a sports fan.
Would love a trade tree of the Brind’Amour - Primeau trade
Erik Karlsson trade tree and Nick Foligno (Out Of Ottawa) trade tree
The EK trade tree is still too fresh I feel the Foligno one is one that would be a good one to watch
Great story and I imagine Glen Hall was quite happy.
Can you do the Randy Carlyle to penguins trade tree
That one goal alone, made the trade worth it for the blues. The point of a trade is to better yourself in hopes of winning the cup. And thats exactly what they did with him.
Update the phill kessel trade tree
During Leafs' "Tank Nation" run (Kessel / Dion, Glory Days) Roman Polack took a serious puck deflection to the kisser. Following 25 minutes of some medical patching a lip and now looking like Donald Duck he is immediately sent out onto the ice and within 40 seconds earns an assist. I say to the people watching the game with me: "If this doesn't get his teammates inspired they don't have a pulse." Sure enough, no noticeable reaction with the team. I think: this bunch of shlubs does not deserve this kind of character; none of these other skaters of this assortment is worth keeping. This is why it is painful when players such as Connor Brown and Zach Hyman who only give nothing but all-out effort every shift are under-appreciated.
As a Kings fan, losing Muzz really hurt. But when you realize we got Durzi, Grundy, and Baby Bear... That is a pretty huge return
How about the Rivet for Gorges and a 2nd trade tree?
Gotta update the Ville Husso part of the tree lol
And it continues!!!
Roman Polak took a puck to the face and missed one shift. An animal. One of my favourite Leafs. Throwing haymakers in the corner.
Do a ziggy palffy trade by milbury tree. both of them. The failed attempt by milbury to trade ziggy to rags then the actual trade to la kings. And how some of the remnants of that trade were used in the nyi luongo trade and the trade for peca.
Asking for the Dale Weise vs Raphael Diaz trade!! Please it's a bigger trade than it looks
Leafs legend Roman Polak.
Steve's gotta do the Foligno trade tree now
I would love to see when the canes acquired Sergei makarov in 1993 and how it lead to their 2006 Stanley cup team
Can you do the Detroit Redwings Tomas Tatar trade to Vegas :)
Do a trade tree about John Kordic for Russ Courtnall
july 8 2022 NHL Draft STL trades Husso to the red wings for 2022 3rd round pick Aleksanteri Kaskimaki
Can you PLEASE do the Nic Foligno trade tree! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Why haven’t you done the Cam Neely to Boston trade???? That thing would be huge!
I am a Senators fan so find it very interesting
I was always under the impression that Anderson was good, but not going to win it all. And to do the math for you, for the Leafs he was 3-4-0 with a .916 save percentage (219 saves on 239 shots) and a 2.78 GAA (20 goals in 430:56 minutes played). If you add in his Anaheim seasons. he was 5-8-0 with a .895 save percentage and a 3.01 GAA.
Sometimes it all just comes together.....
I’m hyped for the McDonagh and Miller trade tree once it finally ends
As a Blues fan, I was really disappointed to see Polak get traded, but I ended up really liking Gunnarson. Not flashy or overpowering, but reliable and seemed like he could be paired with anyone. Interesting to see Ville Husso would end up being a part of this too.
Upvote to make Steve do the Foligno trade tree.
update on Husso he’s a stud now
You must be overwhelmed with request for this one, but a trade tree about how trading Craig Rivet to the Sharks led to the Canadiens aquiring Nick Suzuki would be really interesting
I miss Jake Muzzin, but Tobias Bjornfot already looks like a solid Top 4 defenseman who is only 19, Grundstrom looks like a solid middle 6 forward, probably a 3rd line winger at only 23, and Durzi still has some upside as a right shot defenseman and is 22. Kings did a good job but Muzzin is still a great defenseman. No loser there
Please do the Nick Foligno trade tree
Boom Boom Gunnarsson saved his scoring for important goals. As regulation time was ending in game 2 of the Cup Finals, he rang a shot off the post. During intermission before overtime started, he was taking a leak next to Berube in the locker room & told Chief he would definitely score if he got one more shot at it. He didn't lie. Berube told the story in the post game & Gunnarsson confirmed it. He'll always be known for that goal & should never have to pay for a drink anywhere in St Louis for the rest of his life. The Blues will really miss his veteran presence on the 3rd pairing.
Polak was also a crowd favorite & fans hated to see him go. He was good at punishing anyone who ventured into his space. Can't remember which playoff series it was but Ken Hitchcock advised the other team not to provoke Polak. In a postgame interview, Hitch said you don't want to "open the Roman Polak door". It was good seeing Polak have the successful career he had after being traded.
OOF.....I honestly don't know whats worse. Knowing that your team has hoisted the Cup at least once but that they last did it in 1967 or knowing your teams has been around for about 50 years and has never hoisted it ONCE (Sorry Vancouver and Buffalo).
From an outside perspective, Freddie was amazing 2017 18
I loved Polak in St.Louis he is not a great skater or play maker but a solid stay at home d-man who isn't going to back down from anyone.
“You don’t want to open the Polak door.” - Ken Hitchcock
Not sure you can blame their playoff failures on anything in 2014. It probably goes back to the 60's
Still waiting on the Brent Burns trade tree. This trade is still going on for Minnesota today.
Derek Roy, Matt D'Agostini or Nail Yakupov trade tree
I would like to update this. That Husso pick? Yeah that looks to have been good. After this last season (21-22) he started 38 games with a 25 and 7 record and a 919 save percentage. Then he left in Free Agency to Detroit. So that branch? Dead.
Well not really, because Detroit traded for the rights to sign him for a 3rd round pick so who knows
@@viteksvub5735 My bad. I thought it was Free Agency. Well I guess this tree continues. Have to pay attention to Aleksanteri Kaskimaki.
As a blues fan, I love me some Polak
Oh no it's that guy from CZcams with those damn long videos! But I think those videos are kind of interesting so I watch them anyway.
Now this trade tree continues with Husso and Durzi
Boom boom Gunnarsson ❤️
Do the T.J oshie trade to Washington please :)
I am a blues fan. When the blues call the leafs they should hang up the phone
Do a tree on how many soo g'hounds with ties to dufus /keefe has dufus acquired or in the case of mccann traded for then lost in dufus reign? or the trade tree of laff trades back in the '80's by imlach/mcnamara on behalf of crusty racist harold ballard who shipped out lanny, sittler who wanted out and let salming walk. Or just do a lanny trade tree. Or the traded first traded to nj that ended up the second pick of '91 the lindros draft, h of famer scott neidermayer.
Why are they adding music to these
do the 2009 Justin Williams trade
wonder how bad in a few years the trade trees from these deals the Sabres made are going to look, as welI the Eichel deal if it ever gets done
polak was always under appreciated for what he was in toronto
I'm one of those people who prefers no background music, but I would be content it the volume was merely lowered.
Russ Courtnall for John Kordic trade tree please
A trade that worked out for both teams. That's usually a rarity. You could say St.Louis "won" cause it helped them win a Cup. But at the same time the Leafs have benefitted a great deal by having the likes of Andersen and Muzzin in their ranks. So, a slight nod to the Blues because of the Cup, but a win-win nonetheless.
Ah yes, Leafs legend Raffi Torres
SAying Durzi got you Muzzin is a reach......They also traded away Grundstrom and a first rounder to the kings.
