Trade tree is actually well detailed until That last part, LIKE LITERALLY LAST PART. Jets are one the best in drafting in 1st round (most of their picks are actually good), but Logan Stanley is a 2016 draftee and 2017 Jets drafted vesalainen. Even jets fan are aware those are the 2 most disappointing 1st round picks of their team yet. But Logan Stanley could be a effective late bloomer, and vesalainen probably have this year as his last chance.

The Thrashers were acquired by Atlanta Spirit Inc. from their previous owners in a package deal with the Atlanta Hawks, but they didn't want the Thrashers. They only cared about the Hawks, so they horribly mismanaged the Thrashers.
Legendary goaltender Dan Bouchard helped out with goalie coaching, and he said that the Thrashers GM informed him that he was only needed once a month, and that "goaltending wasn't important."

  • @mcj88
    @mcj88 Před 2 lety +7

I used to be a Thrashers fan; ironic given that I live in Calgary, the city that took their _first_ team away from them. But they had a great young offensive core in Kovalchuk, Heatley and (former Flame) Marc Savard, they had a baby blue alternate/home jersey that looked just gorgeous, and they had a goalie in Kari Lehtonen who'd put geeky stuff like Final Fantasy characters on his mask. What's not to like?
Unfortunately, I think Heatley's little accident did more to damage that franchise than I think people fully comprehend, to say nothing of their ownership group's internal squabbles that led to them just ignoring the team altogether... The crazy thing is, I still think Atlanta could work as a hockey market, they just need to be given a *real* chance for once; I just realize that with -Philips- State Farm Arena's renovation into a basketball-only arena, _and_ with ATL behind in the count 0-2 already, that's not likely to ever happen again. Shame...
Ah well; as it happens I kept cheering for the team even after the move, the Jets are my 3rd-favourite team now, behind the Flames and Canucks. :P

Honestly if the team had better ownership they could have survived, having 7 owners who can't seem to agree on anything except 1) the Hawks are the priority and 2) they hate each other really really really hurts a team that's about a decade old and has won nothing.

I was even a minor Jets fan after the move until their media and fans kept giving Thrashers fans the middle finger. The retro jersey being devoid of any little nod was the final straw. Winnipeg can lose every game from now on for all I care. • @Geoffistopheles

I'd recommend how Anaheim trading Teemu Selanne to San Jose got them Corey Perry and Rob Niedermayer. While it's not directly linked to the trade tree, when Scott Niedermayer signed later, he explicitly mentioned wanting to win a cup with his brother, so interesting footnote to the tree.
Whole thing started as seeing if Winnipeg/Phoenix got anything out of the trade, and the only interesting thing was Oleg Tverdovsky being traded from Anaheim to Winnipeg as part of the deal, then getting traded back to Anaheim, then getting traded WITH Teemu this time.

Parts of that tree helped Pittsburgh draft Fleury 12 years later, helped bring Rod Brind'Amour to Carolina, and played (an admittedly) minor role in the Shanahan-Pronger trade in 95. Staal was pretty serviceable last season paired with Troy Stecher. When the Wings resigned him for $2M, I was OK with that. Yzerman was paid a pick to take on a garbage contract, at zero cost to him, as he had cap space for miles and expected a dismal season. Sound asset management.
Add to that, he managed to squeeze some good value on the ice from the year of that contract, and then resigned a solid veteran at a significant discount. More good asset management.
After fleecing Washington for Vrana and a first round pick in the Mantha trade, things got interesting. At the time of the trade, most would have expected that first round pick to be around 30th. because how are the Caps not going to make the ECF? They are a wagon, right? Wrong. Their first round exit bumped that pick all the way up to 23rd.
Moving up 8 spots from 30th to 22nd really isn't that much of a value increase in terms of the players available (usually). A club isn't often going to pay to do that. However, if you can move up 8 spaces and be in the top half of the first round, that can really get you a great player. So he then flipped that Staal pick with the Caps first rounder to trade up in round one and snag Sebastian Cossa, who could become a significant asset in goal.
He also had to trade a third pick to move up, but all three picks were picks that he traded to acquire. He made sure to keep all of the Wings picks, as they were the highest picks in every round. Even on the micro level, his asset management is solid. I would normally say, "Who is this guy?", but I already know.
    IN THE YZERPLAN WE TRUST.

It's bonkers that this is titled the Marc Staal Trade Tree when in reality its the Devin Setoguchi circle, here we go; when the dust settled on the 2005 draft lottery ATL had the 8th overall pick, San Jose had the 12th and NYR had the 16th. Firstly, San Jose sent picks 12, 49 and 207 for pick number 8 (Devin Setoguchi). All the stuff in the video for WPG/NYR holds true but if we follow Setoguchi then he and Charlie Coyle and a 1st rd pick in 2011 get traded from SJ to MIN for Brent Burns and a 2nd rd pick in 2012. Setoguchi spends 2 years in MIN before being shipped to, you guessed it, WPG for a 2nd rd pick in 2014. The second round picks ended up being Pontus Aberg and Vitek Vanecek, both of whom were also traded thus creating even more branches. Would've made a much better video in my opinion.

You would think brothers would lay off each other? I'm not saying Eric shouldn't have hit Marc but Eric hit him pretty hard, I mean that was a good hard clean hit but, c'mon man it's your brother..smh, lol... Of course the Lindros brothers fought once - Eric and Brett, lol... Interestingly enough I don't recall the Sutter brothers ever getting into it with each other, and when you consider the type of blue collar game they played that's pretty crazy.. I mean I'm a Hawks fan and all of them played for the Hawks except for Brian, he was the Hawks coach tho..

I get there's a fair amount of research in these trade trees. I've only asked for two of these to be done. Pavel Bure to Florida. And the bigger trade of Trevor Linden. I still think in some regard Dangle is scared of these trades

Wanna feel worse Thrashers fans? They originally had the 8th overall pick before trading down with the Sharks to 12. Now the 8th pick was Devin Setoguchi. Not bad, had a 30 goal and 60 point season in 08-09. But 11th overall was the real prize they missed. Anze Kopitar. As a Kings fan, I thank you and all of the other 9 (I don't count Pittsburgh cause Crosby) for passing on him

So Atlanta had bad management that traded away good players for crappy players, hmmm kinda reminds me of the Calgary Flames in the 90s LOL not to mention the Flames sucked at drafting as well(Rico Fata and Daniel Tkaczuk, both 6th overall picks come to mind) I'm glad the Thrashers got better after they came back to Winnipeg at least
