    If the name Brock McGinn sounds familiar, he scored the OT goal in game 7 against Washington in last year's first round on a pass from Justin Williams. Rod Brind'Amour was their head coach.

      I'm not a canes fan but always liked Francis so of course when I ordered a reverse retro Carolina 🐳 jersey I had cool hockey 🏒 put his #10 C on it. Looks even cooler knowing he actually used to wear the whalers jersey also back in the day

    Ron Francis was most certainly the face of the whalers in the 80's. 5 times he lead them in scoring and 9 times in ppg.....I would say he was their best player. Also, upon his return to the franchise ,now in Carolina,he was 1st or 2nd in scoring 4 straight seasons!

    Ron Francis was an amazing player. Criminally underrated ! I was so stoked when he became a Leaf even if it was at the tail end of his outstanding career. Power play specialist, penalty killing specialist, faceoff specialist, 200- foot game, best known as a defensive forward and yet racked up the 5th most points in NHL history! Loved watchin Francis play. A guy who played the game the right way. Long live Ronnie! # Bestevertowear #10!

      Problem was, the Canes never got a serviceable back-up until Cam was over-cooked.
      And then, the back-ups were meant to be replacements (Eddie Lack, Khudobin, etc).
      And then they finally moved on from Cam with...Scott Darling. Can't blame them for going all in on him, and it was a heck of a story, and I certainly wish Scott the best but...he was not good in Raleigh.

    Doug Weight wasn’t slamming home many goals even though he’s a top end scorer because he dislocated both shoulders if I remember correctly. That’s why his cup lift looked so awkward

      Super late to this comment, but then after his shoulder got completely obliterated in Game 5 against the Oilers, that sets the stage for another player to come back for the final 2 games of that series. That player?
      Erik Cole...less than 4 months removed from a BROKEN NECK!!!
      And Cole getting hurt accelerated the push for another trade deadline acquisition that paid off great dividends for the Canes during the Cup run, and who was that?

    I wonder why Steve has not done the Heatley for Hossa swap between the Trashers and Senators. It's a very interesting tree and it's crazy to see the pieces that came out of it as parts of it are still in play for the Jets and Senators to this very day! It's a crazy tree out what looks like a simple star swap.

    I wonder if the trade tree could be extended more. It would be a reach. The Blues got Weight back that offseason. They traded their pick and moved up to get Patrik Berglund who was eventually traded for Ryan O’Reilly. Lol I know it’s a stretch. I love these videos. So entertaining and informative.

    'Rarely ever the best player on his team' except for nearly every single year he was with the Whalers. So, a full decade of being the best player on his team. In fact, he's the Whalers scoring leader by a full 300 points over the next guy, and that only includes his time as a Whaler, not as a Hurricane later on.

    You should also put together the trade tree for the first time this franchise traded away Ron Francis in 1991, as the Hartford Whalers. Although this was, by far, the worst trade in NHL history as it was the turning point that eventually led the team to leaving Hartford, the tree of this trade also helped Carolina win the Stanley cup in 2006 since it ended with Rod'Brindamour.

    E Johnson and P Berglund are drafted in 1st round for St Louis that 1st round was off loaded to NJD. Whomever said those bottom 1st round picks meant nothing ... what did Berglund get StL. And all of their forwards mean nothing because Armstrong had Binnington on WAIVERS in Sept 018. C Ya cup.

      Yes, he was. Rutherford does good for about 5-8 years, and then he starts pushing too hard to keep a core together, and it tears down a team.
      It's what happened to the Canes. Pittsburgh is next.

    Francis came to Toronto a half beat slower and never overcame it. Leech was great in Toronto except for allowing Jeremy Roenick to put the Leafs out of the playoffs with a wicked shot over Belfour's glove. That was the last time for a looooong time the words Leafs and playoffs where uttered in the same sentence. So it goes....
