    Absolutely correct! There would be a very small market for "homage" watches if the watches to which they pay homage were not so overpriced, unavailable, or both. I understand the concepts of brand recognition and exclusivity, but I also understand that drivers of and adherents to the "brand + exclusivity = desirability => stupidly high pricing" model, folks who mostly poo-poo homage watches, are the reason such watches exist.

    Very interesting comparison! For me the Seestern is the clear winner. Somehow the finishing looks the most refined out of these three, even more so than the Seiko.Yes, there is an argument that Seiko invested in the design but until they give us sapphire and a milled clasp I hands down prefer the Seestern.

    • @TheWatcherReviews
      @TheWatcherReviews  Před 2 lety +2

      I agree and some of the smaller features present that I mentioned were also better than the Seiko. Obviously I am a seiko fan and without the original this wouldn't be possible but I do respect the lengths Seestern went to inorder to get such a like for like 'homage' out there

    Great review! You can't go wrong with the Seestern : NH36, domed sapphire crystal, signed crown, amazing case back, milled clasp, perfect alignment, AR coating, great lume, lumed day/date, great bezel action, etc. I also own a Heimdallr Monster (brown dial) (v1), the only negative with this version is the side grooves of the bezel don't align perfectly with the grooves of the case.

    There's certainly a connection between Seestern and Heimdallr: when I've ordered my Seestern 62Mass homage, I received a receipt from... Heimdallr.
    Thanks for the excellent review.

    I just got mine (Tiffany blue) (v2 I believe April 2022) amazing level of finishing for the money. I own all 3 Seestern watches (Doxa, 62mas, Monster) and they're all simply amazing. Contrary to the rest of the Aliexpress brands, I love their branding with the starfish. The quality of the wave engraving on the caseback is so amazing it makes the Seiko look like the cheap knockoff.

    I have a question, is the sapphire crystal on the Seiko Monster domed or flat? The Heimdallr Monster in this review is the v2, the side grooves of the bezel seem to perfectly align with the grooves of the case, good news if they corrected this.

    Fantastic comparison review, very in depth and informative. I own a Gen one Orange Monster with the good old 7S26 movement owned from new, it was the first Auto watch that I bought many moons ago, I absolutely love the thing !! It's never been serviced and still chugs on and is still very accurate. It's a watch that I will never sell. Looking forward to the arrival of the Rdunae Zako homage that I've just purchased from you ! Take care, and great vid as always !!!

    I have a all black pvd, lume bezel with blue fume dial. It's a good watch.
    The blue ar goes good with the frost dial heimdallr but I think it might be good with that really nice seestern. I appreciate seiko because it's a fine watch. It's great to appreciate all.

    The Gen 2 Monster just looks perfect with that mean-looking Shredded Shark logo. A literal monster on the dial.
    Watch buying is so subjective and aesthetics-driven for me, that I love the competition and variety Seestern is bringing to the table. Excellent review, this is very much appreciated. Cheers!

    i just love the fact that seiko has created the original and many collectors do not mind to own the replicas aka homages. And the specs speaks for itself, absolutely astonishing and even more so when you get the sapphire with AR. Same for the seiko turtles. I just have to accept the fact that they all equip with nh34, 35, 36 are the staples to the affordable world and they're not bad at all.

  • @MrPINKFL0YD
    @MrPINKFL0YD Před 11 měsíci +1

    I'm fine with homages but if they cross the line into being a replica with a Seiko badge that is a very big no. I prefer it if they have subtle differences. What's crazy, and good, is where Seiko use hardlex and a pressed clasp and the homages have sapphire and a milled clasp.

  • @ricklynn6176
    @ricklynn6176 Před 9 měsíci +1

    I definitely don’t like the V1 version of the heimdallr the whole point of those embassies are supposed to look like teeth that’s why they even Collett the monster in the first place I’m glad they changed that. I have the Addies dive version and I really like it. Only issue I find is the crown guards being so thin really start to irritate the top of your hand by rubbing on it

    I have dozens. My Long Island watch ISL 49 homages my SKX. Islander uses skx case, hacking 4r36 not 7s26, ceramic, sapphire, and is what we would Mod on our SKX, for 299?

      I love Marc Long Island watch what is his prices are out of control watch you talking about you can get one for $150 from Heimdallr. Is sports dress watches at $350. I just picked up a king turtle brand new 270 something's wrong with his picture.

    • @ws8072
      @ws8072 Před 2 lety +1

      @@vincebrickner5529 I see you point, but I really only buy during sales.
      I have heimdallr, San Martin, Seestern, etc dozens of Aliexpress watches, and with the popularity growing, quality homages are getting from the major players are creeping up to "I could buy a Seiko, etc on sale" prices.
      When quality homages go ,and its headed that way, to 60-80% of name brand, im out.

    • @gilbertoflores7397

      @@vincebrickner5529 well Marc is running a business, you see can see the retail markup he is adding to these watches, that we're basically getting at almost wholesale price. I think he defends his prices because he is a small company and has well paid employees and better customer service to justifies his prices be twice as much as the competition. Marc seems like a decent guy, but he's still running a business at the end of the day.

    I own a few homages, and I've always been impressed by their quality.. Wish I could say the same for the two Seiko's in my collection. Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of some of Seiko's designs but their execution leaves much to be desired. I recently almost bought a Seiko Monster, but after carefully considering all the issues with Seiko's already in my collection, I decided against the purchase. Too many issues, sloppy build quality and way overpriced.
