Seiko Vs. Heimdallr Monster, Which to get?

  • In this video I compare the major differences between Seiko's monster and Heimdallr's Monster. Something left out here is the movement, which is a 7s26 in the seiko and an NH36a in the Heimdallr. I left this out as most of you will not be getting a 1st generation monster and newer versions have the same movement as this Heimdallr.

Excellent video. Seen it late! I'm also a bit of a Seiko fanboy and unlike many people, I dive with my dive watches!! Yes, the crystal scratches on coral, sand and rock on the ocean bottom. The sapphire on the Heimdallr doesn't. Now for the good news!!....I also got the red Heimdallr Monster last March and was impressed. I took it down to 80 metres on a dive holiday in Fetihye, Turkey (great dive spot) a few weeks ago and the Heimdallr handled it with flying colours. I can't vouch for the 200m on the dial, I've never gone much over 100 metres but comparing the interior gasket fit on the Heimdallr to the Seiko's, I think it will likely handle the same depth, in fact around the crown, the Heimdallr gasket looks a bit more robust than on the Seiko, though that might be because the gap is a bit wider. Btw, dive extensions are useful I suppose, but most divers swap out the bracelet for a rubber strap anyway. So I would trust the Heimdallr as a dive computer backup......at least to 100m . Just subscribed btw!

Seiko homage watches are definitely becoming more and more popular. I've been collecting homage watches for a few years and I'm always looking for a well spec'd watch. I love the design of the older Seiko Monsters but they are out of my price range. I was very happy to run across the Heimdallr monster. There aren't many video's on CZcams about it and yours is the only direct head to head comparison that I have run across. I should have my new "H-Monster" in a few weeks. Wonderful review/comparison. I've got the first gen. Monster (in black) and I just purchased the blue Heimdallr. I absolutely agree... The Seiko is ISO certified, but as you say, if you are not a diver, the Heimdallr is a very nice choice. I especially love the sapphire crystal and I wonder if I could buy one for my original Monster... are they the same exact size ? Will have to check that when Heimdallr arrives....If so I could try to find one....That would be a nice upgrade to my 9 years old Seiko....
Is it only me or Chinese have already surpassed Japanese in low cost watches ? I remember 10 years ago, if you asked advice for a watch not expensive, but very good value....Seiko Citizen and Orient was the only answer in forum etc. Now....Heimdallr, San Martin...Steeldive...
Oh....I just wonder if they really are waterproof....not to 200m....I don't dive....so no way to make use of it....but....are they really safe for the beach, swimming pool etc. ? And I really mean swimming....not just putting it underwater....but moving your arms fast inside/outside the water, putting some pressure on the watch at different angles.
By the way....I suscribed , keep up the good fun / job ! (I also collect many many watches....from cheap to super expensive, the last ones as a saving form)

I appreciate you checking the vid out, and yeah in the end if you have a full collection of seiko monsters i would say at that point you gain nothing by getting these Heimdallrs. The only thing to remember is that there's an entire group of folks that have long since missed out on the affordable Seiko period. Nowadays seiko's are vastly more expensive and even their simple models are out of a lot of people's price ranges. These watches are an incredible alternative to achieve the style and functionality without the cost. I do intend on making a seiko oriented video at some point as well. The plan is to explore how they've changed over the last 10 years or so. Should be an interesting video. Subscribe if you wanna hear my view on them ☺️.

Half my collection are Seiko's but they are slacking off. So I have a bunch of Heimdallr's as well. The red one is still on it's way. Truth be told I have mixed experiences with them. I bought a bronze Tuna from them (my first Heimdallr) it broke within 24hrs (stuck hour hand). They exchanged it but that meant I paid twice for shipping and taxes. Then I ordered a 6105 (Willard) which was/is fine except there is no way I can get the metal band back on there (way to tight) so I'm forced to wear it on a rubber waffle. Still, after that I ordered a SBDX001 with the Seagull movement. That was great until the hour hand came loose and flopped around. So yet again I have to have it repaired (again shipping/tax). While my SBDX001 was still working, I ordered a red monster from Heimdallr ($149 early bird). I hope it does not fail me as well. Heimdallr posted on Facebook they are literally only 4(!) people. Let that sink in for a minute.
So yeah, I love their designs and all that but their QC and service is a bit iffy!
Ps: I also ordered a last gen Monster this week for €350. Its the limited black Monster, SRPD29 should arrive next week (now I just need to figure out how to get that square cyclops of it).
