David Murray tried to buy my club, Ayr United, shortly before buying Rangers. As the trophy count built up at Ibrox, I would often get Rangers fans coming up to me saying 'this is where you could have been by now.' It was also a common saying that Ayr's refusal to accept Murray's bid was one of the two great mistakes of Scottish football, alongside St Mirren sacking Alex Ferguson.
These days, none of my Rangers-supporting colleagues seem to bring it up so often.
I'm sure there will be a part 2 soon.......

There is no new Rangers. It’s the same Rangers
@@chelseafootballc im a Celtic fan and i know it would be in my interests to say the opposite, but i agree, the Scottish FA never took away ranger's license therefore it is still the same club, even if they did, it's still the same fans and for the most part was the same people running it. Great video! I'd love to see one on Gretna, and their meteoric rise during the 2000s and subsequent disappearance
Pretty simple the wife didn't want to pay the club fees after her husband died and wanted the money to herself
Brooks Mileson is a hero in Gretna. He didn't just pour money into our football club, he brought our community together. The beginning of the end for us was when we decided to play our home games in motherwell once we reached the spl.
Quite horrific what happened with Gretna. I'm a English football fan following Exeter City, and I'm starting a project entitled 'Travesties of British Football' (ie, what happened with Bristol Rovers' ground, the fate of Third Lannark, etc) and I'd be interested if anyone would like to contribute.

Calling Rangers Europa league run a failure is extremely stupid
From a financial standpoint, it isn’t stupid at all. On-the-pitch success oftentimes has no correlation whatsoever with off-the-pitch club health.
WD From a financial standpoint it was an additional £15/20m that hadn’t been budgeted for.
How is that a failure from a financial perspective?
Great achievement for the new club
They qualified and went straight out. Give me 1 reason why that went well.
Rodgers Gaming first time in Europe in years, 100 times better than the year before failure. No one expected them to make it and if not for an incorrect offside call in Russia they’d probably be through. Also in a group with European regulars
Rangers were not demoted they ceased to exist and the "new club" were given a place in the fourth tier of Scottish football ahead of other teams such as Spartans .
You believe what you're daddy tells you wee man
Factual error- they weren't demoted. They ceased to exist, a new club was formed and applied to enter the professional leagues. Entry was granted despite not meeting the qualifying criteria (3 years audited accounts) and they entered the 3rd division.
@Grantham Bloorns If it is the same club why did Rangers 1872 get a vote on whether the new club would be admitted to the SPL or not? Also, if you use child abuse as a weapon against a football club you are clearly just a dick.

These historical videos are informative and well-made. Rangers have a rich history, and you guys have the best football related channel.
Brendan half of the things he says in this are completely false.
Great, informative and simplified video for all to understand
Excellent video as always, but I just wish it had gone in to more depth.
Rangers have been severely hamstrung recently due to Mike Ashley effectively controlling the retail workings of the club. The retail side of Rangers (going by previous accounts) would help recover an extra third in the financial difference between Celtic with the other third of course being the European money.
If Rangers intend to challenge Celtic then for now the club must be run at a loss, as Celtic have the £40 million from playing in Europe. In order to challenge, that money must not be a near certainty for Celtic and force them to lower their expenses predicting that while Rangers could up their budget with that money.
In Scottish football there is a great effective difference in prize between finishing first and anywhere else in the league because of the Champions League riches
Requiring any amount of money from shareholders isn't great for a business, however it is £4M to be given by several shareholders that is required, not just by Dave King.
It's fantastic to see responsible covering of this topic, in Scotland it's mainly people who predict Armageddon or those who live on misrepresentation of facts.
As Rangers chairman Dave King said: Much like when Rangers were dominant and getting all of the European money, all it takes is one win and the tables are turned.
Quick edit, this season Celtic did not gain the European money, which you could attribute to why Rangers are able to challenge
Sub to alfmeister
@@WingsIsMyDaddy able to challenge my ass the filthy bastard's rangers at a dead club lol 😂🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪 no money lol
Before I go all patter on you, it really is good to see a reasonable Rangers fan. Most of them are just like "'mon the blues" and "up to our knees in Athenian blood" so good on you. Now... "All it takes is one win and the tables are turned." Good quote. False. I'm guessing that one win is Rangers winning the league and being in the UCL? They still have to go through all the qualification matches against champions of Norway, Greece, Iceland, Poland etc. to get through which Celtic haven't made through plenty of times. Celtic will likely be in the Europa League if Rangers do win the league and since winning the qualification matches should be easy enough, they'll still get decent money from that competition. Now considering rangers do make it through to the group stages of the UCL. There's no way that they'll advance further. There'd be a major surprise if they came 3rd. If they do come third, they're in the same boat as Celtic. So no. 1 win will NOT turn the tables. Also, Rangers died years ago. Now Sevko just wear their mask. Thank you.
Also, Rangers don't want to control their money. They don't sign youth players for future profit. They just seem to spend as much money as they can on players that will be useful that season just to stop 10 in a row. They're just hell-bent on stopping 10 in a row. That's why you seem to only sign 30+ year old English and Scottish players who used to be good. You're turning into a retirement home. A retirement home which has dartboards with Brendan's face on it.

How could a club formed in 2012 have risen and fallen. The new club was formed and they were allowed entry in to the lowest division in Scottish professional football, even though they played a game or two without a licence. The suits at the SFA granted this even though they did not meet the necessary criteria. They were liquidated after a CVA was rejected, primarily by HMRC, who were owed millions in various taxes and penalties for Paye etc. The Paye that was due mainly on the salaries of the players, the same players who won the trophies, so, in effect, all that the players won was confined to the history books when the liquidation was rubber stamped.

I've actually read numerous articles about the rise of Brighton and Hove Albion, it really is a fantastic story. Reminds me of Bournemouth's rise also.
Only a club like Rangers could start again at the bottom of the forth tier and come back stronger. It's been a struggle, but we're back competing again domestically and in Europe. Which incidentally, was very successful. We had to get through 4 qualifiers and had been the underdogs in our group. So to almost get out of it by taking it to the final game is quite an achievement. Domestically we haven't been brilliant, but neither has anyone else this season so everything is still wide open.
Great vid mate ...... easy to understand
Rangers were not demoted, a new club was formed in their place and applied to join the lower leagues with the backing of the fans of the old club
Ehm, no. The SPL had a vote on whether to allow Rangers to stay in the top flight or not, with only Kilmarnock abstaining from the vote. Essentially the same old shit with Scottish football that is run by Celtic. Same thing happened with them in 1994 but they weren't punished as harshly and the same criticism isn't upheld even though they had debt that still hasn't been 100% sorted as well.

Words which are thrown around a lot are "demotion" and "relegation" neither of which happened, a new club was formed and existed at the same time as the former club was placed into liquidation. The new club applied to join the entry level stage of the lower leagues and this was granted as the old club was wound up.
As it is, apparently, the most successful club in the world and the best support in the world surely a whip 'round could have been held to stave of liquidation. Instead the fans allowed their club to go to the wall safe in the knowledge that their pet journalists in the Scottish media would spin the story to play on the Rangers fans sense of perpetual victimisation, it was all someone else's fault, pretty much anyone would do, at one point they appeared to marching against pretty much anyone they perceived to be an enemy, the BBC etc, and claims were made that the Scottish government should pay their debt, no real reason for this was ever given, they clearly felt that because of who they were they should never be allowed to fail, even when all of it was a downfall of their own making.
David Murray jumped ship to save his own skin selling the club to Craig Whyte for £1, we were told here by the media that he had "wealth off of the scale". If anyone can believe that no due diligence was done re Whyte prior to the sale I have a bridge you may be interested in buying. Since then the club has gone through a succession of spivs and wide boys in charge with the current owner being called "a glib and shameless liar" by the judge when on trial in South Africa for 322 charges including fraud, racketeering, money laundering and tax evasion, he took a plea bargain and plead guilty to 41 charges of tax evasion. The club has no line of credit with banks as they're seen as a basket case with a dodgy owner so not much has changed in the last seven years.

The original RFC voted for TRFC to join the SPL in their place (note 2 separate entities, hence the need for a vote) but 10 other Premiership clubs voted against their inclusion.

Wrong. There were 11 votes. Rangers did not receive a vote, obviously.
Hi Tifo, sincere question: Since there's been devolution in governance over the UK, who sanctioned the EBT? Was it London or Edinburgh? The main bank was HBoS not RBS , school boy error. Makes a big difference.
wow wonderfully written presentation
What a club. Lost all our money. Relegated to the 4th tier of scottish football. 7 years later one of the best midfielders of our generation is our manager and we made it back to europe, signing premier league players again. All about the rangers.
Lost all of someone else's money more like. Always good to rob the taxpayer huh
HIROW Damn right mate. 54 titles we’re still going strong.
Taxation is theft
55 is coming
@@dominantpersona3326 Only it isn't is it. It's part of the social contract.
By all means though, outlaw tax and live with your NAP and lets see if China, Russia or hell the guy next door who fancies your tv respect it.
So the current Rangers are *NOT* the same team from before because that's exactly what it sounds like.
even if you see it that way Rangers FC still have more titles than Celtic (Y)
The Rangers Football Club was bought by Sevco, so Rangers as a team is the same but not behind the scenes.
@@KingEddo8 The Rangers football club was not bought by sevco, the assets of the club were sold by the administrators prior to handing the club over to the liquidators to finish the job.
The two clubs were in existence at the same time and Rangers voted on Sevco's entry into league football so the are very clearly not the same club!
@@miff2011 I would say otherwise tbh.
@@KingEddo8 You did say otherwise, that's why I corrected you.
hmmmmmmmm can you guys make the audio louder? why only louder at the end? it could be the volume level throughout
Please explain to us how to become the manager and their different ranks to get license.
You can never keep a great club like Rangers down.💙
2012 sent to the third division, the forth tier of Scottish football. Now today we are 6 games and 23 points clear at the top of the premiership. The league is over we have win the 2020/21 title and are in the final stages of the Europa cup. This is the proof you can never keep a great clip like Rangers down. Ever! 💙
Texas rangers
Apart from the part where they died and this is a new club.
Decent video. Nice editing and a good effort went in but the idea that our titles in that era were at best "tainted" is so stupid. Our squad beat the other leagues squads over the course of a season and every player would admit they lost out fairly. These titles are not tainted what so ever.
Hmm. The club was using EBTs to pay players, which is fraud basically. They were spending money they did not have, in an illegal way, on players they could not afford. Yes, everything they won during that period is "tainted".
@@hamishmunroe9906 Hi Hamish, how is your brother Terry doing?
Hi Tifo football. Please make a video about the purchasing of club statuses.
Can a billionaire from Sussex buy Arsenal, move it to Sussex and change its name?
My actual question is can you please make a video about rules purchasing an AFC operating licence.
I believe Redbull had a problem in Germany, they had to buy an amateur club.
I'm asking this because here in the Republic of South Africa one can buy a Premier League operating licence, change the name and move the club. Mpumalanga Black Aces was bought from Mpumalanga province, moved to Cape Town, Western Cape and changed its name to Cape Town City.
Ajax Cape Town failed to win promotion back to the premier league and so they bought a Premier League operating licence from Bloemfontein Celtics.
Please tell me this circus I just want explained only happens in South Africa. Imagine someone buys Sunderland, then because they from London, they move the club to London and change its name and colours.
I wish the City Football Group or Redbull could buy football teams in RSA.
This video needs an update. Mission accomplished.
Can they see us now do u think?
