Maybe he'd need to educate a few stragglers, but he would reign supreme after overthrowing Zeus. But if she wants to rule all of Olympus, then she needs him to think everyone would deny him for going after Zeus. I mean it isn't like they particularly liked Zeus. Zeus had to ask they put aside petty grievances to kill Kratos at the end of GOW2. But by sacrificing herself and putting it in Kratos head that he needs to destroy all of Olympus to get to Zeus, then it sets up that Zeus would line the Olympians up for Kratos to knock down leaving Athena as the one true ruler.

I don't know, it's weird. Whenever a story has a prophecy, it sure seems like 99.9% of them think they see the prophecy's meaning, and act wrong because of the information.
Like the "Chosen One" prophecy in Star Wars. A dude who's supposed to bring balance to the force, who spends most of his life unbalancing it further, and only really opens the galaxy up to be balanced. I suppose you could count that, but a part of that particular story is that Sidious and his master, while alive, used the dark side of the force to tilt the universal scales of the force towards the dark side. Sidious embarked on a process, while alive, that changed the force in the galaxy, and while he was undone, his actions have not been. _Somebody_ needs to come in and push those scales back, not to the light side (like Lucas envisions "balance") but to the middle.
The only story involving a prophecy that they don't mess up is in Harry Potter, and it's still like the prophecy had Neville Longbottom in reserve to act as a buffer in case they screwed up with Harry, lol. It's wild that Snape heard the prophecy too, went to Voldemort with what he had overheard, discovered his idea sealed Lilly Potter's fate (much to his horror), turned to Dumbledore who blackmailed him by doing something he was going to do regardless of Snape's advice (protect the Potter's *and* the Longbottom's), and the only reason Voldemort died was because he gave Lilly a choice not to die and she chose death to protect her son ("It's old magic, ancient, I can't believe I didn't realize it before!") and the ONLY reason he gave her that choice was because of Snape, Voldemort's faithful servant.....

An example is in GOW 3 right before fighting Gaia and Kratos, Zeus says to Gaia about how she should have went after the "other one". That means Deimos could have easily reached Kratos's God killing potential (if he was alive). Which isn't something a 100% human mortal could do.

When Kraots inquires, "By the Gods, What have I become?"; the grave-digger, who is actually Zeus in disguise, replies "Death, the Destroyer of Worlds". What many people wouldn't know is that, it's actually a line that has been taken from the Bhagvad Gita enounced by God Vishnu when he takes the Vishvarupa to coax Arjuna to do his duty and says, 'कालो ऽस्मि लोकक्षयकृत् प्रवृद्धो लोकान् समाहर्तुम् इह प्रवृत्तः' (Romanized: "kālo'smi lokakṣayakṛtpravṛddho lokānsamāhartumiha pravṛttaḥ") meaning, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." and Oppenheimer, who was the "father of the atomic bomb", in 1965, after being psychologically tormented seeing the devastation his creation had brought onto humankind, remarked the very same line. This greatly complements the beauty of this scene right here; Kratos had killed Thanatos, who was Death himself. For a man who killed Death, it was natural that he would take his place, and would, indeed, be the death to Olympus. Both Oppenheimer and Kratos are one and the same from this perspective. I adore this very subtle detail that the Developers added to this game, for it's very esoteric. I hope someone learns something from this comment. :)

I think when deimos got kidnapped Athena saved Kratos from ares because if Athena is a God and is lose to the oracle she knew the marked warrior would be Kratos who would bring about the end of the gods. Also foreshadowing ares injures Kratos in his eye making his wound a scar which is now a mark. Not to mention he later takes on his brothers markings as his own then later gets marked again when he murders his family. So the marked warrior was truly. Kratos.
