@@areaxisthegurkha Probably as a ploy to manipulate Kratos. If all he wants is to kill Zeus, as he states at the end of GOW2, then he wouldn't fight the rest of the pantheon. Maybe he'd need to educate a few stragglers, but he would reign supreme after overthrowing Zeus. But if she wants to rule all of Olympus, then she needs him to think everyone would deny him for going after Zeus. I mean it isn't like they particularly liked Zeus. Zeus had to ask they put aside petty grievances to kill Kratos at the end of GOW2. But by sacrificing herself and putting it in Kratos head that he needs to destroy all of Olympus to get to Zeus, then it sets up that Zeus would line the Olympians up for Kratos to knock down leaving Athena as the one true ruler.

I love this idea of prophecy. That even moving on certainty (there's the marked child, take him) doesn't guarantee you did the right thing (brother marks himself in remembrance, and becomes the true child of prophecy).
You tried to alter destiny, and that very action was what makes the prophecy come true
"A prophecy is like a treacherous woman. She takes your member in her mouth and you moan with it's pleasure, thinking about how fine, how sweet, how good it is, until she bits your prick and your moans of pleasure turns into screams of pain and agony, that's the nature of prophecy, prophecy will bite your prick off every time!"
“self fulfilling prophecy” is the name for it. it’s probably one of the coolest and saddest things in the world. like anakin and saving his wife or in this case kratos
Tbf if Athena let ares kill Kratos they would have been fine obviously but it's a game no point in me stating the obvious
I don't know, it's weird. Whenever a story has a prophecy, it sure seems like 99.9% of them think they see the prophecy's meaning, and act wrong because of the information.
Like the "Chosen One" prophecy in Star Wars. A dude who's supposed to bring balance to the force, who spends most of his life unbalancing it further, and only really opens the galaxy up to be balanced. I suppose you could count that, but a part of that particular story is that Sidious and his master, while alive, used the dark side of the force to tilt the universal scales of the force towards the dark side. Sidious embarked on a process, while alive, that changed the force in the galaxy, and while he was undone, his actions have not been. _Somebody_ needs to come in and push those scales back, not to the light side (like Lucas envisions "balance") but to the middle.
The only story involving a prophecy that they don't mess up is in Harry Potter, and it's still like the prophecy had Neville Longbottom in reserve to act as a buffer in case they screwed up with Harry, lol. It's wild that Snape heard the prophecy too, went to Voldemort with what he had overheard, discovered his idea sealed Lilly Potter's fate (much to his horror), turned to Dumbledore who blackmailed him by doing something he was going to do regardless of Snape's advice (protect the Potter's *and* the Longbottom's), and the only reason Voldemort died was because he gave Lilly a choice not to die and she chose death to protect her son ("It's old magic, ancient, I can't believe I didn't realize it before!") and the ONLY reason he gave her that choice was because of Snape, Voldemort's faithful servant.....
@@landonletterman831 I like prophecies where they have a chosen character who is to bring peace or something but don't specify in whether they'll be a hero or a villain
The fact Deimos was able to somewhat keep up with Kratos after years in captivity (even though Kratos wasn't fighting at full power), and then actually be of help against the god of fucking death is insane. Isn't Zeus Deimos's dad??? Correct me if I'm wrong but Zeus refers to Deimos as if he's his son!!! An example is in GOW 3 right before fighting Gaia and Kratos, Zeus says to Gaia about how she should have went after the "other one". That means Deimos could have easily reached Kratos's God killing potential (if he was alive). Which isn't something a 100% human mortal could do.

@@Guy-bm5wh soyboy for a son true tragedy
When Kraots inquires, "By the Gods, What have I become?"; the grave-digger, who is actually Zeus in disguise, replies "Death, the Destroyer of Worlds". What many people wouldn't know is that, it's actually a line that has been taken from the Bhagvad Gita enounced by God Vishnu when he takes the Vishvarupa to coax Arjuna to do his duty and says, 'कालो ऽस्मि लोकक्षयकृत् प्रवृद्धो लोकान् समाहर्तुम् इह प्रवृत्तः' (Romanized: "kālo'smi lokakṣayakṛtpravṛddho lokānsamāhartumiha pravṛttaḥ") meaning, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." and Oppenheimer, who was the "father of the atomic bomb", in 1965, after being psychologically tormented seeing the devastation his creation had brought onto humankind, remarked the very same line. This greatly complements the beauty of this scene right here; Kratos had killed Thanatos, who was Death himself. For a man who killed Death, it was natural that he would take his place, and would, indeed, be the death to Olympus. Both Oppenheimer and Kratos are one and the same from this perspective. I adore this very subtle detail that the Developers added to this game, for it's very esoteric. I hope someone learns something from this comment. :)

@@ethanthomas349 Indeed, I'm so excited for the next game!
@Roman Dodia Yes, it'll be fascinating to see; I'd love to see them go into Japanese Mythology and then lead to the Hindu mythology as they are connected. I've been reading a lot Japanese mythology and so far, it has been intriguing me quite a lot!
@@ethanthomas349 Speaking of which, I read into the Nordic mythology and bit; and it seems Odin is scared of Ragnarok, which makes me think Kratos might be the personification of Ragnarok, so that's something interesting i've found out!

@@Demolition981What
All things considered Deimos is pretty fucking impressive, he was going to to toe with Kratos at the height of his power. Actually beat him too, albeit I think Kratos was holding back.
Obviously Kratos was because Deimos was clouded with rage because he thought Kratos had abandoned him. So Kratos was technically holding back (even though we use combos to beat him)
@@BanishedSilentShadow3318 yeah but Deimos did damage him significantly, which is a pretty good feat. But yeah that's fair.
"A spartan warrior never lets his back hit the ground"
Wasn't he flat on his back when the Barbarian leader almost crushed him right before he pleaded Ares to save him?
I guess it's more of a figurative thing. Also, this game seems to be a retcon.
Well Deimos isn't aware that Kratos had done those things since he was taken as a child. So Deimos wouldn't have known Kratos had killed his family, killed the God of war that took Deimos, and would become the new God of war
Well that's the point you don't let your back touch the ground because when you do you die.
Actually he didn t ask to save him, he said "ARES! DESTROY MY ENEMIES AND MY LIFE IS YOURS"

@Gay Lover "You are nothing but a pawn in a game you don't even know is being played."
If you play the game you are controlling what Kratos is doing and Kratos does not even know that he is part of the game.
@Gay Lover Yeah, it is not but it kinda goes into that direction if we assume it is meant ambiguously.
"this boy is no consequence"
*Literally gets killed by the same "boy" years later*
I can see a good chunk of references seen in Norse Kratos, just in this video.
4:26 - the spear of Draupnir, that appears of nowhere, with a red flag
4:43 - that is a runic attack used with the Draupnir, and that shield move seems familiar
11:53 - the opening to the heart looks like Surtr's. You also double stab Surtr in the heart with the blades.
13:05 - the same words said at Faye's burial
I think when deimos got kidnapped Athena saved Kratos from ares because if Athena is a God and is lose to the oracle she knew the marked warrior would be Kratos who would bring about the end of the gods. Also foreshadowing ares injures Kratos in his eye making his wound a scar which is now a mark. Not to mention he later takes on his brothers markings as his own then later gets marked again when he murders his family. So the marked warrior was truly. Kratos.
Awesome writing id say

Could be her plan all along, since at the end she wanted to be the ruler of olympus. She is the goddess of wisdom she knew who the actual marked warrior was. It was her plan that Kratos' destroyed everything. Her only regret is that Kratos' at the end of GoW 3 released hope to humanity
@@pedrosilvamusician That's only been speculation so far and creators haven't confirmed it but from what I've seen from the story so far I really think this is the case.
Also theirs a video about Athena planning it all along and it does make sense so far and no one hasn't really pointed out a flaw on it and the people who knows a lot about Greek mythology pretty much agreed with the video.

What happened if Deimos survived This and GoW 3? Would he join live with Kratos in Scandinavia (land of Norse mythology)? Would he be a great uncle for Atreus? Would he find a wife for Atreus to have an aunt and possibly a cousin?
No he will be killed by Zeus
