It should have been the happiest time of her life. But when Amanda’s husband left her 30 weeks into her first pregnancy, the life she’d imagined was left in tatters. Just when she was at her lowest point, though, something she saw in her oven left her in floods of tears.
Amanda was living happily with her husband in Sydney, Australia. They had bought a home together, but what they really wanted was a baby. So they began trying for a family in 2012.
After three years of trying, however, Amanda had been struggling to get pregnant. In turn, this was putting strain on the couple’s relationship. And as a result, she and her husband decided to concentrate on renovating their home instead.
“We’ve been renovating the house for the last two years,” Amanda told Sydney’s KIIS 1065 radio station in 2015. “We put all our money into that and the idea was that this year would be a good year.”
And then, when they were least expecting it, Amanda fell pregnant. Amanda was ecstatic; it seemed like everything was coming together for the couple. However, their happiest times were sadly never to come.
Yes, just before they were about to move into their home, when Amanda was a few weeks pregnant, her husband walked out on her. He left her all alone with a house to pay for and a baby on the way. Amanda was, of course, devastated.
“It’s been probably about five weeks since it all happened,” she revealed on KIIS 1065. “The biggest thing was just the shock, I guess. It wasn’t really what we’d planned or what I planned.”
Her husband’s shock departure also left Amanda in a difficult position financially. “It’s very difficult,” she said. “The thing is, we’ve been renovating the house for the last two years. We put all our money into that.”
But despite everything, Amanda was determined to keep her dream family home. “I have to look at other options and what I can do,” she said. “I really want to keep the place and raise my child there.”
Amanda’s friend Anna was so heartbroken by the situation that she contacted KIIS 1065. The radio station’s breakfast show hosts, Kyle and Jackie O, often feature a “give back” section. The segment features the stories of those going through tough times and tries to help them out.

Dk Adkins Ha! I went to court a total of 4 times to only have my ex husband to owe me back pay child support. I raised my 3 children as a single parent, Basically with 1 income.

been there, 5 months pregnant first baby. Just got approved for a mortgage. All my savings deposited in the new house. Just been promoted manager for the cleaning company I worked for. Then within 1 week of telling my boss of my pregnancy he calls me up and said all of my contracts had been cancelled and they didn't pay the bills, he swore he would pay me the two months wages he owed me but don't bother turning up for work. Then my husband became Ill. Found out my boss was working at my contract sites he had just taken them for himself and turned all his phones off and I never got paid. I thought he was a lovely man and I never called in sick and worked so very hard every day and stayed late for free because he charged too much and I had to keep the customers happy, praised by my boss often and never had any complaints, It is still not easy we are still struggling financially and now my son is 18mo. But he is a wonderful happy healthy baby and that is all that really matters in the end. well worth the difficult pregnancy and very long 72 hour labor. Doesn't matter if we cant afford most things, we get by, well just about. As long as my son and husband are with me I am one happy lady even if on the bread line. just celebrated our 10 year anniversary and are still a good team :)

feel so badly for the lady in this story though, I would never cope without my husband, we just belong together and I fail to see how I could live without him.

How does a man run out on his pregnant wife just weeks before the baby is born? It's not like she trapped him by getting pregnant after they'd been dating a few months. They tried for YEARS to have a baby! What a nasty piece of work. Good luck to you, Amanda and your precious baby!

What's the reason the jerk leave her. They have a life ahead of them. When the baby comes, he suddenly leaves her.
It happened to a couple I knew. He suddenly realised he didn't want to be a father so he left his pregnant wife who was carrying his twins.

Not sure it meant completely paid off her mortgage. But the $10,000AU would pay off her mortgage for a good while and in that time she could get herself together and get a job after baby was born to continue payments herself. This video said she lived in Sydney......Houses in Sydney, Australia are very expensive. There are now no suburbs with a median house price under $500,000.

I have brother's,and one of my brother's have three children and it seems that he was to proud to have his wife to pay any child support and she did give him alot of problems when his children were small. I'm the one that ended up playing mommy to his children. I was their aunt and acting mom for them. Now , I have been caring for his his grandchildren. Well, I believe everyone needs help, I know that my brother wouldn't have done it on his own without me.

Ill bet he wanted to dump the money pit house before they went into financial ruin and she stubbornly refused to let go of it. "I didnt want to let go of my dream family house, even though we have no money..." So instead of saving the money for baby bills, they blew it on renovation and since she got preg, they would be dead broke and in a mountian of debt. Its unfortunate they made a poor financial decision, and I dont feel sorry for them.

I was also left by my husband, pregnant and fired for being pregnant... all these years later I am still greatful for what I was left with. My son has been my supporter, and my biggest reason for grey hais but I wouldn't go back and change a thing.. he is my best gift in this lifetime .

Don't pay it off. Put it toward the principal. Paying off your home leaves you unable to establish credit. Without that monthly payment your credit score tanks. Go figure. Have no debt leaves you unable to get credit.
My cousin had a similar thing happen to her, but no gifts. Our only female cousin was pregnant with her second child, when her husband left without a word after he was caught cheating. Seeing this made me think how many of us males are jerks like that. I would at least have a reasonable explanation before I divorce properly.

In my view, the "husband's" actions demonstrate what a total and uncaring lowlife scumbag he really is. He walks out on his pregnant wife and shirks his responsibility as a potential father? he needs to grow up, own up, man up and step up.

VegasGirl35----i will tell you this.....if i got married and was trying to have children and invested in a home.......and found out it wasn't my kid......i would find a number to a divorce lawyer.....and while i was dialing the number...i would make sure my spouse was within earshot...i would make sure my spouse heard me say....i need to file for divorce and was looking to make the earliest appointment

He just wanted her. Once she became pregnant he runs. He did not want to be a father. And also wanted no responsibility in taking care of a baby. He does not want to be tied down with that. She needs to track him down even if she has to hire a detective private to find him. have him arrested and take him to court sue him for child support.

I am willing to bet that since they tried for a long time, and couldn't get pregnant, she went elsewhere to get the job done. He found out about it that's why he left. It's easy to blame one person, we don't know both sides of the story. It happens a lot more than you think.

What an asshole of a husband. I don't believe how cruel that is. The radio station did a wonderful thing. I never had a baby, but my husband walked out on me with no warning anything. I was in such shock, I did not know what to do. I never saw it coming. I have not been the same since and will never trust people anymore. I guess that I was just too ugly.
Let's revisit Amanda in 6 months or so, and see how she is coping then.
Maintaining a home and raising a child is no mean feat, even with help.
I hope she can persevere after the fame fades a bit.
