- Sometimes I am playing FM on stream and someone will point out that something I am doing is useful and should be a video. The art, and it is an art, of cultivating a list of potentially free players in your football manager save then combing through them in a way that is not detrimental to your team is something I have spent my whole FM life trying to perfect. I believe I have it down now and it was pointed out to me that making a guide to this trial art would help people not spend that same amount of time getting a feel for it.
This is VERY MUCH a feel thing. While a lot of Football Manager is a science, what takes a player from good to great is having a feel for how things will work out in certain situations. With these free transfers, I am trying to provide you all that feel. The perfect balance of training workload, dynamics, and scouting the maximum number of players the moment they become free is intricate, but the rewards can be a completely new team that can get you promoted out of whatever league is requiring you to scout this way.

To add to step 4: Always, always move trialists to u23/reserves etc. The one you use as the dumpster not the one with your talents. Does not harm workload or dynamics then so only limited by board + As trial extension is not possible just trial for 4 weeks as default. Then check weekly yourself how good everyone is looking. Sometimes even on day 1 you can cull them.

Tip 9, set up the coach who giving you trials feedback. The higher the the judging ability and potential, the better information you will get about the player.

I do a mid season trial farm. Trial lots of players at the start of the season and if their demands are a bit too high id keep tabs on them and re-invite them on trial from time to time. Eventually, their demands will be really cheap especially after January. Got someone who first wanted 2.7k pw on just 500 pw. These players also can still improve your team depending on your teams level
Theres also a glitch where if you mess up a contract negotiation when a player is on trial you can untrial and retrial them.

I would also like to add, even though it's not directly related to the concept of trial-farming, but if you want a player who's already considering a contract from another club offering them a trial will force them into a decision (and it in my experience never goes the way of the trial). So if there's a player who has no club and you want to approach them but you already see that nice 'BID' status button, you need to decide if you just want to offer them a contract or not approach them.

This is the best video for trial farms in Football Manager. It was an extremely helpful guide and yes try to look at training workload and shortlist often.

My Spennymoor trial farm in FM20 has already gotten me 3 straight promotions and a few cup wins as well, very nice!

Extra tips: As mentioned before director of football suggestions and also people on non contracts or amateurs can also be easily trialed. Can easily filter to expired on contract status.
Zlatan wanted to join Arsenal but he refused to trial when Wenger asked as "Zlatan doesn't do trials". (In hindsight Wenger should have just taken the plunge of course.)

You can also sort the players by world reputation, this I find to be a quite useful way to find better players - they usually hang out near the top of the list
To add to step 3. Sort by the info box on the left side. See who they are wanted by if there is the wnt icon. Bigger or similar size club? Interesting.

I’ve been using my non-existent u19s and B team to do the trials. It doesn’t affect my training. I schedule friendlies to keep them fit and see who actually plays well.
I usually batter the trial in the off season when your first team is on hol as then your first team training will not be effected, then during the season limit the trials coming in

The other thing on the player search is to look for all players currently in the senior/u21/u18 national teams - picks up those with no caps but close to breaking through
how do you get that filtered in Player Search? Couldn't find a way to do it

@@deeznoots6241 Honestly I started a save as Halifax (local town) and they have literally no money. £100k in the bank and absolutely no transfer or wage budget to speak of (5k free wages)
Literally every player i took on trial was signed by another team no matter when i offered the contract. Could be after a day or after 13, made no difference. Bearing in mind it was a dishonest save where my manager had elite attributes it's like why would any player want to go play for a dogshit vanarama level manager when they're literally being offered a manager who has prem stats lmao
I had that problem in Portugal while doing Braga save, few teams share scouting knowledge, in 1st division of Portugal, among themselves which I didn't know at the time.
@@vasilijefilipovic1761 Yeah both the share scouting knowledge can do it. And I think Zealand mentioned it before. Bringing someone to your country then allows the AI that only has knowledge of said country to then also know that player. As the AI works of it's own shortlists. Then suddenly your trialists also show up there.
@@Hyde_Hill ye I figured but took me a while. I was thinking that Moreirense and a few more were just affiliates because of other colours and when I looked them up to send some players on loan there I saw what was affiliation about
Regarding training and cohesion decline, I move all my trials to the B or U19 teams. I'm pretty sure this fixes the problem, but please confirm.

Yup always do that.
Probably, although I don't know about the workload. For instance, if you dump the trials in the reserves, but you're using your reserves coaches in the first team training, I guess the workload would get worse, at least for them.
@@jacopomangini3036 Only for the reserves training and not for the main training. Yes maybe a bit gamey however how it works. And if that has changed just take them off reserves training hehe. It should be the team full of trialists and people to sell anyway.
Another tip that I’m sure most know, DOF, regardless of you actually have one can suggest very good free transfers and EOC players

Could you do a position tier list for FM22 please? You didn't rate a BWM highly in FM21 however you use one now in the Dorfa save..
Would it be viable to use your B Team as the trial farm if you can afford to maintain a B Team? This way, it won’t affect first team coaching.
I always send trialists to u-18 team so the workload in first team is not impacted

Exactly what I was going to comment, you still get all the info and the impact on your 1st team is negligible.. and allows you to run a 300+ farm 😃
In my experience you know as much about a trialist 10 days into the trial than you do 14+ days into the trial. So I always make a decision on day 10.
I am having trouble in my save when it comes to trials.
I can get players up to 4 week trials, but for some reason, i don't get any report after that, only at the time of the trial (without any hidden attributes shown). Does somebody know if it is fixed after this recent patch?
According to the patch the info will last a bit longer after they leave.

As a person who is Ivanov himself, I beg you: the surname has emphasis on the last syllable (actually, this particular one has variants, there was a painter called Alexander Ivanov and his surname is IvAnov). Just like a lot other Russian surnames, including Golovin and Miranchuk.

Here is how I beat Real Madrid to sign Mbappe free in summer 2022 by abusing trial (mbappe has preference to play for Real Madrid):
1) Starting in January, whenever someone offers a contract to Mbappe, offer him max wage + 50% yearly wage rise + 50% sell on fee. After he accept offer, delay whenever he ask for confirmation. He will pull out of the deal. (Do not press cancel; let Mbappe be the one who pull out)
2) repeat 1) until his contract at PSG runs out in summer
3) offer him trial immediately. Every time a new trial starts all interested clubs disappear.
4) when some clubs starts to get interested, terminate trial and offer trial again.
5) wait until transfer deadline day and Real Madrid will be uninterested ( or if you are lucky, Real Madrid might have no budget left before that)
6 Bonus: Being the first to offer Mbappe contract while he is on trial at your club will result him asking for lower wages

If they have an agent, he’ll notify other clubs that he has received a contract from you. So then other clubs may offer him contracts as well
