I started tinnitus retraining therapy a few weeks ago from Minnesota. I am located in South Dakota and can not find anyone in this area to do the counseling because the counselors do not understand hyperacusis and the type of counselling that is needed. The hyperacusis place I went to said it would be better to see someone in this area so I could do counseling in person. Is there anyone that could do the counseling over the phone or on zoom? I am waiting on 2 counseling places in town but they are not getting back to me that quick. Below is what is shown on the handout I did get.
Counseling though a trained psychologist can also be very beneficial for treatment. Habituation can only occur one the brain has stopped identifying the bothersome sounds as negative and there are some cases that require counseling to get to that point. Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) are three counseling options which work well with the concept of habituation.

We do offer remote services, but we must evaluate you in our office for the first appointment to move forward with treatment. We do not do free consultations.
