I have tinitus for around 2 years now.At the start it was hell, panic attacks and depression for around six months. Its funny but now it doesnt bother me AT ALL. It exists but the body doesnt go fight or flight mode. I know its hard but it mostly needs time, whether it goes away or not. The first year will always be difficult, youll need to find ways around it. I used a fan , the ac or tinitus masking sounds from youtube to sleep for about 1 year.

I’ve been stressed lately, there’s a lot of family health issues going and a recent passing, so my tinnitus spiked. It came outta no where, so I didn’t realize it was directly linked to my anxiety. Once I realized it was, I started doing yoga, getting outside more on really nice days, and sleeping better. Doing more things that I enjoy too, while taking breaks before I get too stressed. I feel way better now 🙏🏾

Same ... I was just actually planning to do yoga and have a better sleeping schedule too the day before yesterday, but now I'm one of the family members who's sick.. Next week there would be 73 modules with 5 activities in it, 3rd summative test (10 subjects)with the coverage of module 5 and 6 ,84 performance tasks (=167 requirements) that I have to pass on Thursday because that's the DEADLINE +I also just had my 2nd summative test last last week... I am 15 years old btw... I know no one asked for this but It feels so safe and peaceful
here... I actually got anxious after finding out that what I've been experiencing is a symptom...
Base on the article that I just finished reading , one of the common tests that doctors would examine that would help us identify the cause of our tinnitus is having a lab test...(Lab tests. Your doctor may draw blood to check for anemia, thyroid problems, heart disease or vitamin deficiencies. ) and I actually don't think I still have to .... because out of all the tests that I ever did ... that was the most common thing to me... I am anemic and While I have a fever rn ... and I'm stressing over things that I really think is normal to be stressed about ....I am losing a lot of blood because I'm on my period rn-- uh isn't this too much?
I hope I don't make anyone feel uncomfortable..... I said it because just like what I've said I am anemic and Having period 2x in a month is really something that is so hard to deal with .... especially rn.... like... Even before I got my first period I already had anemia and knowing that one health effect for more frequent bleeding is anemia....
I still can't accept that I have so many health issues 😭 Most adults that I talked with before said that I am like an old soul inside a little girl's body, whether It's about the way I talk, think, act or the way I dress but Ig my body is getting too weak so early too...
Someone said that all of us will spend half of our life being old and there's only 18-30 years to feel young but I why do I feel like a parent to my parents emotionally.... the moment that I turned 13.... Ugh I'm over sharing so I'll stop by saying I hope you are doing well now or aleast feel a little better....

I've had tinitus for about 5 years now, not gonna lie I've had bad periods especially at the start. But following a lot of things you've also mentioned have really helped me almost forget about the tinitus and I've had long periods where I didn't even notice it, could fall asleep without any help without noticing the tinitus.
A lot of things you mentioned in this video have also helped me get to that point. I've sadly had a minor setback after expore to some loud noise but always staying postive and above the negative sounds to get back to where I was.

At age 70, I have had tinnitus for 30 years or more. When it first appeared, it drove me crazy. The ear doctor had no suggestions for decreasing or eliminating it. Pre-Internet...there were no random sources of info. Finally...I just gave up...shrugged...got on with life...enjoyed the day. Surprisingly, it faded into the background...still there...but ignored. I quit attending to it, and it seemed like it was gone...until I gave it my attention. This is the first day of researching ways to possibly reduce or eliminate it. Thus...surprisingly, tinnitus has reappeared as an annoyance. Your suggestions here make me realize that the Big Shrug was working fine. :) Am open to a physical "cure," but not at the cost of thinking about my hearing all of the time. Thanks for your great channel. My husband is getting hearing aids, and we appreciate all of your info re "all things hearing."

What an excellent video, Ben! I had tinnitus for several months now, and I've been dealing with anxiety and depression with it to the extent that it's making me physically sick. I've just started using sound therapy, so I'm hopeful that it will help. I'm also going to start CBT as well. I walk for 30 min. in the morning, and 30 min. in the evening. The outdoor sounds while I'm walking do mask the tinnitus, which I enjoy. I think the toughest part for me was accepting the fact that I may have this for the rest of my life. At 62 years old, I've had good use of my ears, so far. Never had any issues, so I can't complain. It is nice to see there are treatments and support groups out there that can help. Take care of your ears, people!

This is so educational thanks for making this. I want to support people who has Timnitis. Some things I want to share about my ears is I am sensitive to noises, my ears hurting from headphones and earbuds so they need to be comfortable. Recently I had a doctors appointment and the person pointed out looks like I had an ear infection when it’s the cotton swabs, which I told my mom to stop using cotton swabs, so what I did differently is clean the outside of my ears in the shower, and dry them.
I have stress and trauma triggers too as well. I have medical conditions including diabetes, insulin resistance, PCOS, and asthma, and sleep conditions I have insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea, so the reason why is my medical conditions. I have mosaic Down syndrome and I think as if they’re connected to my medical conditions, and sleep conditions. I still struggle with noises and my ears feeling uncomfortable or they hurt. The positives is that I am already taking control of my health and overall well being.

Dr. Thompson, you have such wonderful way about you, and I agree that folks can and should do all we can to help ourselves. I must also say that it is frustrating beyond belief that the medical community has not stepped up to find an actual cure for this horrible condition. So many amazing things have been accomplished in the medical field, I think if focus was put on real treatment, and not “meditating the pain away”, we could have a cure.

I'm wondering how much the increase of noise frequencies in our environments effect this; wifi, smart meters , cell towers etc. This just started for me over the past year and initially questioned if I was imagining it. Then wondered if I had a water leak in the house. Then started wondering if it could be the smart meter but so far I'm the only one that hears it. It will keep me awake or wake me out of a sound sleep.

    Excellent explanation Doctor Ben, thanks!
I'm not a healthcare professional, but I perceive my tinnitus as a symptom of something bigger going on in my body. In this way, I found useful deflate the body, supplementing certain substances to help me control my mood, stress and anxiety, promoting sleep quality too, such as melatonin, among others.
Simply supplementing digestive enzymes and lactobacilli can help the body balance inflammation and, as a consequence, all tinnitus-related symptoms.
I'm still using the techniques you discussed, associated with biochemical strengthening, and I can say that I have hardly noticed tinnitus lately.

Not only the sound of the instrument diminishing the volume of tinnitus but also training my attention on learning and playing the guitar keeps my mind occupied with a positive focal point. No teachers, just hands on and mental attention and an occasional pointer from CZcams. Good luck to all finding a fun way to alleviate the condition. I feel like a new person, my tinnitus which has been constant for over 20 years has now been gone for four days. Over the last six months I have been using reflexology only on the ear reflexes once or twice a day for just a few seconds I use the points on my hand. Press hard on the grooves where your last two fingers join your hands using your other hand to do both grooves at once, this actually reduced the volume of the sound almost immediately for me. Five days a go I felt a random click in my neck and shoulder on the same side as the affected ear and hey bingo tinnitus gone. I think the reflexology enabled the healing process however I have always thought that tinnitus relates more to the neck bones and the nerve connections. I hope my experience can help others to try different therapies so they may find relief.

@@cathy9814 Hi Cathy. It was back in about 2003 or 2004 and it was the first time it happened to me. I don't recall how long it took then - but I think months to a year or maybe two. I didn't have any material hearing loss back then. I've have mile to modest loss now at some frequencies. Likely due to age because I've been careful and use hearing protection. But I got lazy months ago and went to a venue with a loud band. Didn't seem to bad, but it triggered more serious tinnitus. It's annoying but I'm dealing with it. This time it likely will take much longer to habituate, if at all. I recommend masking at night for sleep (find a track that works for you), and go one with your life best you can. Just plow through it. I don't hear it when working (concentrating on something else) or outside (unless I listen for it). In quiet rooms I play various masking tracks which work great. You have to tell yourself that this is something in your brain that you can't control, so you can't obsess about it. You have to do everything you can to focus on other tasks and your life. It's annoying, but your brain has the ability to adjust. Be patient and hang in there. Read the success stories on the Tinnitus Talk forum and notice the long term approach. Try CBT with an audio therapist.

When I try to ignore the tinnitus it becomes unbearable. When I focus on the tinnitus it fades.
Adding another sound on top of tinnitus is aggravating, especially white noise.

I had Tinnitus for 21 years that was low volume and didn't bother me until 2 months ago when the volume suddenly went full blast and is driving me crazy.
Sadly no one understands who has never had it and think we are overreacting.

if it was stress or anxiety this condition would be more common than the cold and more well known. my guess is 5G or Toxic Environments.

  • @DaisyDebs
    @DaisyDebs Před 6 měsíci

I am trying everything you suggest ...everything . Exercise , getting out for fresh air into my lungs definitely helps to get a good night's sleep . I just want to be able to hear normally again. I'm now trying the sound therapy hearing aids , Just one month in with it , so it's early days . Yes , I try not to get upset about it , stress and anxiety really does make it worse.

I've suffered with Tinitus for about 8 years now..i find getting outside and keeping occupied takes your focus away from the tinitus. Mine started on my left side and has become gradually louder where i struggled coping at the time. Not realising that my frustration and stress was causing the noise to be more apparent and louder. It started off as a subtle ringing but gradually gets louder and it is really loud now when i have no distraction or stress. It started on my right side a few years ago and that is creeping up in frequency. It has been worrying at times as to whether it'll get to a point where i cant cope as it gets louder. I cant read books as the noise distracts my concentration. Sometimes i struggle listening to the tv with the high pitch noise. Sometimes its pulsatile and sometimes its just a constant ring. I use breathing and meditation to relax. I also listen to music with headphones. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be tinitus free for a day and how relaxing that would be. I find distraction techniques and daily activities mask the noise. Acceptance is another way of coping...this allows me to calm my negative thoughts. Accept the noise isnt going away. Negativity and the flight response tend to just turn the volumn up. Be mindful of your tinitus and learn how to manage the frequency with calming techniques. Meditation is great..i focus on my breathing as though im sending my breaths to my feet slowly making their way up my body, before i know it im asleep by the time my breaths have reached my hips. I hope explaining about my experience may help others in dealing with theirs...

Meditation, for me, is the only thing that truly numbs my T, but not everyday you can meditate. ASMR is also a great way to soften it a little bit.

Where I live the ENT's I saw told me I had to learn to live with it. There was really no effect treatment to treat tinnitus.

If your tinnitus is caused by hearing loss, the ENT might be right. However, if it's not, there are things you can try. After all, it has to be caused by something right?

Ben Thank you so much. just trying to reach you. The water over rock (not forest birds) is perfect, its natural, calming, completely dissolved it for me. Just before I tried many from white white noice to frequency, it wasn't a good experience. and at times exacerbate the condition with tension. Spiritually you have purpose in your life.. Bless you, lots of love brother.

Hi, Dr. Ben, Step #4 Letting go of negative thinking patterns/CBT, and #5 Daily practices. I had an increase in tinnitus in December of 2021 and
am listening to crickets right now. I took copious notes while listening to your podcast and will be on your next group Zoom. I would like to discuss how best to reach "the mixing point", as I might not be implementing it correctly prior to sleep. Thank you for all the help and encouragement you are providing to all of us with Tinnitus. You have given me hope. Elisa Maietta Flynn
