Christianity has evolved a lot since then, and christian people nowadays, for the most part, are like everyone else, which is nice.

To me what that quote you just said says "Believe in our faith fully and the people we put in power because everyone else are false prophets and liar's and we are the only people that tell the truth".

I'm really sorry you had to endure that especially at such a young age. I went through a similar experience with Catholicism at a young age, not as bad as yours probably but regardless I understand what that feels like. It totally turned me off religion altogether and it wasn't until I met my wife that I finally started to practice Islam. It became very important to teach my son what religious freedom is and have him understand there is a lot of people out there that will use religion to get you to do things you don't wanna do. I hope you are able to deal with it mentally now and you're okay. God be with you =]

Tyler Dewhirst my answer for why evil exists at all is because the human brain is extremely complex and varies a lot between individuals. There's all kinds of damage that can happen physically and otherwise, and that can lead to bad things. (But not always. There's lots of good people with damage, we've all got something that bothers us after all.) Evil is usually the very self centered greedy and selfish people, but some people cause harm to others just because they want to. They might have their own justifications for it, but to me it's probably just a result of them having their own damages. (Not that this makes it okay for people to be evil. Just because bad shit happens to you doesn't make it fair for you to make bad shit happen to other people. If you're doing stuff that's causing other people to have a harder time getting through the day, that sucks and you should knock it off. Otherwise you suck too.)

As a kid, I remember being forced to watch KCM anytime we weren’t able to attend church....I was always APPALLED, even at a young age, at how much of his “sermons” were him talking about and asking for money....I remember my parents not having much money but just PRAYING that they would get something in return by donating what little they had. It makes me sad to know that he is rich from A LOT of people just wanting more money to be able to feed their families

He kept touring Florida to do his sermons all 2020 which pissed me off too. I had to listen to him and hundreds of other pastors call in to Governor DeSantis to bitch about how the lack of sermons was hitting them financially (live streams just weren't bringing in good donations) and how it was affecting their insurance (they risked losing it everytime they snuck church services early last year) the whole thing really opened my eyes to how churches and their non profits operate

I went to a church once and I remember hearing the pastor talk about how donations are saving for heaven and he explained it like this and I quote
“ when you donate it’s like saving for retirement in heaven, the more you donate the bigger your house will be on the other side or your car.”
