I read in an interview with Neil Geiman, that when he was first writing the book for his daughter, that the name was originally Caroline, but he made the typo, Coraline. He liked it, and kept it. :)
Actually, due to being Greek myself, I can further proof your theory. You see, here in Greece it is a tradition to name your children after their grandparents. For example, if my grandpa is named John and I am a boy, most likely than not I will be named John as well. If a girl is born, it takes the grandma's name. If there are two boys each will take one name from each grandpa from each side of the family. That's not even like something that used to happen, it is a fact that still happens today almost on all occasions. So if your theory is that coraline has Greek roots it will make absolute sense for the name to be passed down with skipping generations in between, because that's literally just what we do in Greece, without even requiring the original coraline to necessarily be successful to pass her name down as an honor!

I love Boxtrolls! In fact it was the first Laika film I ever watched. Then it was Coraline. After Coraline i watched Kubo and the Two Strings and then Paranorman. Then it was the Missing Link. Everything Laika does always turns out great!

I see Boxtrolls on TV a lot these days, so you might find it free if you have on demand. It's also bounced on and off Netflix. It's worth a watch, but it's not my favorite movie personally.

I know that this won't be related to the video,but as I was watching the movie coraline, I noticed something.When the other wybie leads coraline to the portal she ends up in the pink palace limbo,and then after a while,coraline visits ms spink and forcible and when they give her the seeing stone,coraline immediately looks through the stone.Now if the pink palace limbo is a part of the other world,then how come the stone didn't reveal anything?

I was thinking. What if Agatha's father is a member of this family? Especially if the family branched in several areas, maybe not all the daughters were named Coraline, especially if he was travelling to the New World under Puritan beliefs, and Agatha marked the end of that branch of the tree. It also fits because Agatha is a latinized version of the Greek name Agathe. It would give the beldam an extra connection to Coraline and maybe even though her intent was to feed on Coraline, maybe in some twisted, she kind of sees Coraline as Agatha. Also another piece of evidence that the beldam is Agatha's mother that I don't remember you mentioning, Coraline calls her witch when she kills Wybie. Idk, just found that interesting.
I really love the points you made but I have a suspicion about Corolines real mother. I find it quite odd how she was drawn to the button key and I feel that there is more to her choice then just that. I find it also kind of strange that they chose to move in such a peculiar place secluded from the rest of the town. They are only 3 people why do they need such a big house anyways. and that when Coroline asked if they moved here because of the gardening her mom only replied "something like that" in a sketchy tone. If she did move there because of the gardening wouldn't she have just gave her a straight answer and agreed? Also the fact that her real mom always seems agitated with her, it may be a possibility that she wanted to move there to simply get rid of Coroline with out any suspects. She regrets her dision and hides the key. In conclusion, I think Corolines mom has some sort of connection with the belldam that led her to the house and not just because of work and they moved there for the mear fact to get rid of there daughter because they think she is annoying/ a pest (as the mom refers her as) I know it's a lot, sorry but just one more quick point. They have a lot of similar features but are not quite identical. All the other replicas look exactly the same as the others (including voice wise) the belldam is the only exception (at least in my perspective). Maybe (depending on how long the belldams been around and her background and the background of Corolines real mother maybe there related or something (idk😅) thank you for reading (If you did that is😊) Also the fact that the belldam has many buttons helps prove this theory (who knows maybe the belldam herself was the one who started the business, it's not like we even know her real name maybe it's Coroline too. )

I think I have a Coralline theory that may interest you. In one video U mentioned that your lovely daughter said that it was such a coincidence that there were two girls and one boy as ghosts and as neighbors. Well I think there are the same person. The bedlam eats the kids and sends identical puppets to the real world that way no one will notice if the beldam takes them. I hope Fangirl reads this!! I love your videos!!! Actually the original writer of coraline when writing the story wrote the character as caroline. But the editors got it incorrect and so he just went with it

One question: I get the sawdust, but why would somebody dump perfectly good buttons down the well? I mean, I haven’t seen the film in a while, but I don’t remember the buttons the Beldam had looking broken or flawed.
I would imagine it's along the same reason as to why they unearthed brand new, seal, Atari 2600 games in a landfill. The market collapsed, Atari couldn't sell the games, and they were costing a lot to store, so they literally buried them (I believe that's a documentary on Netflix called Game Over). If a company goes under and they can't find someone to buy out their inventory, they might just dump buttons to keep from having to store buttons. OR, maybe the mice just collected them over the years. OR a clothing company could have dumped down the well to keep from paying for storage or dumping fees. That could be the most logical option, sense clothing goes out of style quickly, and even Goodwill shreds what they can't sell to turn into dishrags (but what happens to the buttons and other parts that won't shred?!).

I'm not sure if this was talked about or not, but I thought I wold ask anyways. In the scene where we get to first see a little of Kubo's mother's powers, we see that her hands glow blue while her sisters' hands glow gold. In fact, their glow reminded me of the sun. I know that you have talked about how their mother might have been the sun goddess, but they are the property of their father. But why did their hands glow gold when calling upon their powers? Why did Kubo's mother have a blue glow?
Sorry if this seems like a silly question, it was just something that always struck me as strange.

How about this for a thought, what if the beldam used to be Coraline's ancestor named Coraline who started the button company? Follow me down this twisted rabbit whole. The beldam used to be a real woman who started a button empire and maybe her husband died in his 30's (like most men did in the past) leaving her empire to be ran by her son's. There is an old word brldame that just means old lady that she was only referred to as before she (through some mystical means) became the beldam. And like you said that the family could have spred around the world and into different cultures. What if all of the people that she brings into the other world are all her descendants? This being that if you allow her to see the buttons into their eyes they are then allowed to go back to the real world (looking completely normal to everyone else) while pursuing the family legacy in the button empire. You soul is locked away in the other world while the beldam uses you like a puppet to keep the empire alive. All of the ghost children may also have been named Coraline. You are never given Mrs.Lovat's sister's name. All of them are just called tall ghost girl, ghost girl, and ghost boy. What if the beldam only obductes children descendants of hers that are also named Coraline and that our main character Coraline is still in limbo because she has not allowed her great great great, I don't know how many great grandmother to take control over her to continue the Coraline button empire? I know this my not jive with any of your previous Coraline theories, but as you always say, theories are more fun.

Agatha Prenderghast was very much human, so she is in NO relation with the Beldam.
We don’t really have enough information on Agatha’s backstory to know what she might be. Same with The Beldam, we have no idea what her life has been like, or how long she’s lived it.
