    In coraline the “welcome home” cake features a double loop on the O. According to graphology a double loop on a lower case O means the person who wrote it lying. There is only one double loop , meaning she is welcome but she is not home.(I found this on reddit and decided to share)

    I think when the Beldam told Coraline everyone has an Other Mother, she was referring to herself. She uses the doll to spy on children to see which ones need her love and takes the form of their mother so they'll trust her. Then when the children trust her, that's when the buttons come in. I also think the reason for sewing the buttons into the children's eyes is so she can pass on the spying through the doll to find her next victim.

    Perhaps we could take into consideration The doll that’s uniquely made for the children that go missing. What if it’s true it open Coraline said that the doll is a spy for the beldam watches Coraline. If that’s the case then clearly at least at one point in the movie on or off screen but I would make “visual” contact with Coraline’s true mother. And once the dog would make physical contact with Coralines mom, it would take a magic/psychic imprint on her character so the Other Mother would have a form to create to trick Coraline.

    I love this additional theory. I makes a lot of sense for my own headcanon. Honestly at this point I can't remember what are my own coraline theories and what I got from your videos but my own idea of the Belldam was that she would eat once a generation and functioned similarly to a weeping angel from dr who. Meaning she would live off the potential life energy the child would have had. So I had it in my head that the slipping into spider form was more because she was running low on power and couldn't maintain the "cozy mom" form as long as she normally. But if its a New Beldam every time it would explain a lot of the mistakes she made, like trying to sell the button eyes on the second or third visit. I'd imagine if she's been doing this for hundreds of years she would know that kids don't like being mutilated lol

  • @jadedidcott8892

  • @supersaiyangrl3
    @supersaiyangrl3 Před 4 lety +3

    This is how I always saw it, her different forms are just optical illusions that disappear the more the child starts to realize who the bedlam really is. In the movie the more Coraline everytime realized who the other mother was, she would change

  • @idiotgoddess2114
    @idiotgoddess2114 Před 4 lety +7

    _I came up with this theory as I was watching the movie for the first time, so here it is:_
    I actually think that the beldam can make herself and her world appear different to suit each individual victim. And in the case of coraline, it is her parents (with the exception of the eyes, of course), and probably also some mind reading abilities, since the beldam seems to understand what the victim’s hardships and desires are to tempt them to stay forever with her. And I think that the previous victims could have also been previous residents in that house, which may also mean that the house is most likely the only place where the beldam can have some access to our world

    There is one scene where the other mother fully looks like Coraline's real mom. After Coraline crawls through the tunnel to the other world, she sees who she thinks is her real mom, but is of course the Beldam. She's in shadow, but it's possible to make out what look like human eyes in the place of her buttons, to try to trick Coraline. I think that the Other Mother simply chooses not to look like this most of the time because of a self-preservation instinct (no matter whose mother she takes on the form of, she will always choose to keep her button eyes, when it's clear she can simply choose to change them anytime she wants).

    Maybe because she’s trying to resemble each kid’s parent, along with the other creature, the other father. We all know she can make human eyes. Well if she can do that, maybe she spies on the parents with 2 dolls (mom and dad). Or maybe she already knew what she looked like before Coraline moved into the house.
    Short summary: She resembles he victim’s mother and makes everything resemble what the victim loves and can make human eyes to trick the child into being in the regular world and she then “takes their life”.

  • @elenamendoza7396
    @elenamendoza7396 Před 4 lety +1

    I like this train of thought because it can be alluded by the appearance of the praying mantis machine the other father rides which if u look at the shape size and belly is very reminiscent of a female mantis, known for eating their mates after courtship, which I guess we can call the whole charade a courtship between coraline and death, coraline being wood by the ever growing attractive other mother as time goes on. Ugly side only shows up once danger of the circle of the beldams life is threatened, hence truer nature reveals itself as it goes etc....

    At the end of the movie you see the cat disappear into the sign post for “The Pink Palace” he is only shown to be able to do that in the other world. So does that mean that it was the directors subtle hint that Coraline didn’t really escape the Beldam?!

    • @histguy101
      @histguy101 Před 3 lety

      There are multiple entrances to the other world, and the cat can see them, due to his cat senses, and he can go through them. It's in the book.
      When you see the cat disappear behind a tree, then appear out of a different tree, it means he just went back to the real world and entered another portal into the other world.

    You mentioned in multiple theories that no one interacts with the other residents until caroline goes into the other world, but if you look in the beginning miss Spink almost caused the movers to drop their items by waving her hand as if they saw her wave at them.

    Great theory! This could also connect to the beginning scene as well! Maybe that was the last Beldam making the new doll, since the next one would look similar. It also shows her hands as needles, which means she could've been in the last form before "death". do you think the beldams are made to look like the real moms?

  • @roach_lotus
    @roach_lotus Před 3 lety +1

    I have a theory on why the other mother still looks like coralines mother even if she already changed forms well first to start of i say that her mother form wouldnt go away unless a new victim comes like how her voice only changed after she added the button eyes in the opening sooo her form wouldnt change unless she already ate coraline and found a new victim

  • @Ram-cm7po
    @Ram-cm7po Před 4 lety +1

    Simple answer: she looked like coraline’s mom so coraline would feel “at home”

  • @GabeVaughnVela2009
    @GabeVaughnVela2009 Před rokem

    I believe the beldam rakes the appearance of anyone's mom, Example. Back in lets say it was the 1940s or 50s, the bedlam took the form of Wibies Grandmother and Her Grandmother sister mom, but not only took her appearance, but made the Inaude of the house look like theirs.
