This is a fantastic and well explained video! I've seen lots of DIY guides on forums which show you how to change the air filter, but always different when you see it in action. First time i've seen someone patiently walk through all of this and explain so clearly what they're doing. Great job and really useful!
Good video, i found it easier to also loosen the other bolt on the rear engine cover, it gives better access to that tricky rear bolt on the air filter housing. The strut brace restricts access to the other bolt on the rear engine cover but you can get an allen key in.
People there is a faster way to change air filter on these engines 325-335d m57. Instead of taking of climate filter and all that just take of the engine cover - the hose betwen turbo and maf- take of the maf sensor then unscrew just the visible screws for air filter cover, not the screw far back. And just jerk out the filter while holding the filter cover. Have done it this way the last 2-3 times and to just take of turbo hose and maf is faster than taking of all the parts over the engine. With the maf of you can easily pull out air filter. Remember to unconnect negative on battery before unpluging elektronics.
emrage Hi MAF sensor is located under the engine cover. If you remove the engine cover and whilst stood at the front of the car looking towards the rear you will see the air intake pipe coming up from the inter cooler on the right side of the engine this is attached to the MAF, you will not need to remove the air filter, hope this helps.
I don't get it why, but they must have a reason. I have recently changed from honda to this BMW and changing the air filter on honda was a one-minute job, just a few metal clips and the whole cover were off. OK, this is a fairly complicated engine than 1.8L honda petrol engine but still, what part of that engine benefits from this complicated air filter assembly.
They've made what used to be a simple job into a difficult job. Thanks for the video. Really appreciate it
