@@lucypevensie6284 Hi Gracie, the first thing is to remember that the Lord is the one who opens the eyes and ears to his truth. While a Mormon I remember being very ‘protective’ of the church, despite any doubts I had. So one comment won’t work to reach them. However if in a conversation you could ask questions then point out the differences that might work. Mormons today really try to act as though they share the exact beliefs of a follower of Jesus but their are major differences. Example they do not believe in the trinity. You might ask, did Joseph Smith say he saw and talked to God and Jesus both and they appeared to him? Then you could say, interesting and confusing, the Bible states God is spirit and doesn’t have a body. Again, pray about what to say. They believe they have to be good enough to get to certain levels in heaven. And that no one goes to hell but sons of perdition. So that is also a contradiction to the Bible. Hope this helps some. God bless.

I was raised in, and still live in a LDS dominated area in south-east Idaho. In my youth I never believed in anything they taught us even though I was a scout, which in that time was run by the LDS church and was even baptized when I was 8.
When I was 17 I was taken to a Christian Bible study by my high school sweetheart and her family. I was instantly drawn to it and have been a born-again-believer ever since. I still use that same Bible to this day was given to me by them.

@@strongtower9237 That just isn't true, and if you know the bible, then you know it isn't true. John the Revelator tells us that there will be two prophets murdered on the streets of Jerusalem, just prior to the return of the Lord. After three days, they will resurrect.
There were also prophets in the Lord's church. The church was built on prophets and apostles.
"And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love." (Ephesians 4:11-16)
"The law and the prophets" refers to the books of the Old Testament. The "law" was the five books of Moses. The "prophets" are the books that followed. The scripture you are quoting (Luke 16:16) was Jesus talking to the Pharisees. None of the New Testament had been written yet. It is not a statement about the Lord's use of prophets, and it is not a statement about future books.
Hebrews 1 is accurate. While Jesus was alive, and for 40 days after his resurrection, God spoke to people through his son. Jesus is not currently with us for he has yet to return and prophets are once again necessary to communicate with God.

@@fayelewis5476 I've always wondered about that. Why did apostles get first billing? Technically, all the apostles in our church are set apart as prophets, seers, and revelators. I don't know what the differences are. The modern church isn't exactly like the ancient church.
I suspect that Jesus can do it any way he prefers. I am confident that he is the one that leads his church.
We would never mock our savior.
It isn't mocking Jesus to believe in the Bible. It teaches in the book of Job that Satan is a son of God. Abel was righteous and Cain was not. Siblings are individuals. It happens. You don't think we should believe in the bible?
All of the other churches are led by false prophets, ie. men who claim authority but have none. I know without any doubt that the LDS church has real authority from God. I have cast out devils and healed the sick myself.

You do not have the right Jesus.
The LDS 'Jesus' was the product of an incestuous relationship between God and his daughter Mary. 'Heavenly father' also had sex with another woman to create Lucifer making Jesus and Satan half brothers, unless it was Mary again. Even atheists have better morals than your LDS 'heavenly father.'
-Joseph Smith taught that God had sex with Mary...
"President Young spoke of the first organization of this school by Joseph Smith the Prophet. The Word of Wisdom was given in this school. President Young said Adam was Michael the arch angel and he was the father of Jesus Christ and was our God and that Joseph taught this principle." Wilford Woodruff Journal, Vol.4, p.288, September 17, 1854
-Mary the wife of Joseph had another husband...
"The man Joseph, the husband of Mary, did not, that we know of, have more than one wife, but Mary the wife of Joseph had another husband." Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, 11:268
-He was actually, literally, biologically the Son of God...
"Jesus Christ was willing to make payment because of his great love for mankind, and he was able to make payment because he lived a sinless life and because he was actually, literally, biologically the Son of God in the flesh." Messages for Exaltation, pp.378-379
-Adam was the father of Jesus...
"Another meeting this evening. President B. Young taught that Adam was the Father of Jesus and the only God to us." Diary of Hosea Stout, April 9, 1852, vol. 2. p. 435
-God as the literal father of the human family...
"Latter-day revelation confirms the biblical account of God as the literal father of the human family." Bible Dictionary back of the Book of Mormon, under the heading God, 1990 printing, p.682
I should not even have to copy and paste such vile, obscene blasphemies spoken by mere men. The fact that Joseph Smith and Brigham Young would mock God, Jesus Christ and Mary speaks for itself.
President Hinckley said you have a different 'Jesus.'
"In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints 'do not believe in the traditional Christ.' 'No, I don't. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak has been revealed in this the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times. He together with His Father, appeared to the boy Joseph Smith in the year 1820, and when Joseph left the grove that day, he knew more of the nature of God than all the learned ministers of the gospel of the ages.'" (LDS Church News Week ending June 20, 1998, p. 7).
      Jesus said, "Follow Me."

naya. It is true that many critics dismiss the BOM without reading it. Some say that there is no truth in it, but that would be to deny the great amount of Bible truth that is to be found in it. It is certainly possible to find in it the call to faith in Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice and resurrection. If any other parts of the LDS system might be criticized, it cannot be denied that LDS people can have a genuine love of Jesus. Christians would, however, say that they do not realize that Father, Son and Holy Ghost constitute the only everlasting uncreated God. Any other "gods" are merely creatures to whom the uncreated God gives the privilege of sharing some of His power and authority, by a sharing in His goodness. They remain creatures, whereas God is the sole Creator.

When Lucifer appears in the Mormon temple ceremony he is wearing an apron. When Adam asks him about it Lucifer boldly replies: “It is an emblem of my power and Priesthoods” (25:15). So, there is no ambiguity here-the apron has nothing to do with God; it is an emblem of Satan’s power and priesthoods. A few minutes later, when they hear God coming, Lucifer tells Adam and Eve to make themselves aprons and hide (25:45).
Adam replies, “Come, let us hide,” and at that point in the ceremony everyone is told to put on their aprons. And they do. So, for the rest of the ritual, on top of their temple undergarments with the masonic-type markings, and on top of their white temple clothes, temple patrons wear a dark green apron-in obedience to Lucifer and symbolizing his power and priesthoods.
This stands in stark contrast to what happens in the Bible: God removes the fig-leaf coverings that Adam and Eve make and replaces them with animal skins He provides. This foreshadows and represents the covering for sins provided by Jesus when he was slain on the cross as the Lamb of God (see John 1:29; Hebrews 9:22).

See that? Peter says baptism does save us
As for baptism for the dead it's found in 1 Corinthians 15:29 but Evangelicals rather than accepting Biblical Christianity prefer to alter the meaning of baptism for the dead and pretend for no real reason that Paul is picking out some pagan practices to win arguments towards the doctrine of the Resurrection as if that makes any sense.
It's amazing how Ray is playing the word game as if "they" was not possibly associated with Christians.
    "17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." (Mark 16:17-18)
"They" is referring to all true Christians, including the Apostles he was speaking to.
You guys claim the Bible has the final word and yet you chopped it up and put your false interpretation ahead of the written word. Baptism for the dead is mentioned once, so how many times does a doctrine have to be mentioned in the Bible to officially be "Biblically"

Endless geneologies is almost certainly a reference to the Jews self justification as children of Abraham. Jesus taught that God could raise up seed to Abraham from stones. That is basically, what the Latter Day Saints are trying to do, raise up seed to Abraham out of the Gentiles. Baptism adopts one into the House of Israel.
"Else what shall they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead?"
    - 1st Corinthians 15:29
Baptism for the dead was an early Christian practice. Paul wasn't trying to show the validity of the resurrection by pointing to a pagan practice, but a practice among Christians. Jesus came not only to save the living, but the dead. "Christ died and rose again for this very purpose-to be Lord both of the living and of the dead." - Romans 14:9

      Baptism doesn't save anyone.
1 Corinthians 15:29: “Otherwise, what will THEY do, those being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not at all raised, why indeed are THEY baptized on behalf of the dead?”
By comparing it with the rest of Scripture it does not mean that a dead person can be saved by someone else being baptized on his or her behalf, because baptism is not a requirement for salvation in the first place (Ephesians 2:8; Romans 3:28; 4:3; 6:3-4).
The entire passage (vv. 12-29) is about the surety of the resurrection, not about baptism for the dead.
The plain meaning of the Greek in verse 29 is that some people are being baptized on behalf of those who have died-and if there is no resurrection, why are they doing this?
Either Paul is referring to a pagan custom (notice he uses "they," not "we"), or to a superstitious and unscriptural practice in the Corinthian church of vicarious baptism for believers who died before being baptized.
Either way, he certainly does not approve of the practice; he merely says that if there is no resurrection, why would the custom take place?
The Mormon practice of baptism for the dead is neither scriptural nor sensible. Baptism for the dead is a practice that was common in the pagan religions of Greece and is still practiced today by some cults; but it doesn’t change a person’s eternal destiny, for that is determined while he lives (Luke 16:26).
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

Since when did any Greek traditions involve baptism? So now we have to believe that Paul is talking about something that the Greeks and never heard of, that is false, to promote the resurrection. Wouldn't it be more logical to just concede that Jesus was sent to save both the living and the dead? Worse is the idea that God is giving us busywork that has nothing to do with salvation. Anyone that spreads the good word of the gospel is aiding in a persons salvation by helping them find the truth. Also works ARE important just as following the commandments are crucial to our salvation. Following the commandments are some of the works God expects of us after we repent and trust in Christ. Your right says Baptism is non negotiable, that is why God has provided a way for ALL to be baptized even those who have died without the opportunity to be baptized. Proxy isn't a foreign doctrine, it's one of the main doctrines of christianity. All Christians believe Christ has stood in place(proxy) to pay the price for our sin. God loves us so much that He has provided a way for ALL His children even if they didn't get an opportunity in this life.
Also in Acts5:38-39 we receive some great council from Gamaliel that we may want to consider.

Genealogy was important in the Old Testament and before Jesus came to show that Jesus came from the tribe of Judah as was prophesied.
The Messiah was prophesied to come from the line of David (Isaiah 11:1). By recording His lineage in Scripture, God confirms that Jesus was descended from David (see Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:23-38). The genealogy is yet another attestation of Jesus Christ’s fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies.

Baptism for the dead is a pagan practice. Other pagan religions practice it.
The New Apostolic Church and the Old Apostolic Church also practice baptism for the dead, as well as Communion and Sealing to the Departed. In this practice a proxy or substitute is baptised in the place of an unknown number of deceased persons. According to NAC and OAC doctrine the deceased do not enter the body of the substitute.
Outside of Christianity, proxy baptisms were practiced by the Mandaeans of Iraq and Iran.
Epiphanius of Salamis (between 310-320 - 403) reported that he had heard it said that, among followers of Cerinthus.
Paul mentioned this fact in I Corinthians 15. In speaking of the resurrection, there were those who were saying that there was no resurrection. Even non Christians believe in a resurrection that is why THEY baptize for the dead. Notice the words those and they.
      I Corinthians 15 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised;
29 Otherwise, what will THOSE do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are THEY baptized for them?
The true church spoken of in the book of Acts and the epistles never baptized for the dead. It would be pointless.
"It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgment." Paul was glad he did not baptize very many.
      Jesus Christ never baptized anyone.
The Mormon practice of baptism for the dead is neither scriptural nor sensible. The word gospel means good news. In order to have good news there must be bad news.
The bad news is that we are dead in our sins, are children of wrath and on our way to hell.
Eph. 2 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, and were by nature children of wrath,
Romans 3 “There is none righteous, not even one; 11 There is none who understands,
      There is none who seeks for God; 12 All have turned aside, together they have become useless;
There is none who does good,
There is nothing we can do to merit being saved from hell. God does not accept tithing, fasting, good works, facing Mecca, lying on beds of nails, going to church, etc. God only accepts His own righteousness. You have to be perfect to get into heaven.
The gospel, the good news, is that God himself became a man, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus Christ humbled himself, shed his blood, died and rose again. He paid the penalty for our sin in full when He died on the cross.
2 Timothy 1:9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,
      Romans 3:20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight;
Galatians 2:16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.
I Peter 2:24 and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.
Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
All you need to do is humble yourself, repent of your sin and put your faith in Jesus Christ. You don't have to join a church, get baptized, get religious, etc.. Salvation is quite simple. Religion makes it quite difficult.

In John 3:5 Jesus said to Nicodemus "except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." Mark 16:16 says He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved..." Jesus was also baptised even though it was not necessary for him to be baptised, being perfect. Baptism is followed by the invitation to receive the Holy Ghost through the laying on of hands.
Are you suggesting that the early church adopted baptism from Greek cults and Jesus condoned this by consenting to be being baptised? Homer lived about 750 BC? You made it sound as if we believe that they are forced into The Celestial Kingdom because we did their baptism for the dead. Actually we believe they are told about their baptism for the dead and allowed to choose if they will accept it. 2. We believe that baptisms for the dead has no power. The perfect atonement wrought by Jesus Christ in Gethsemane and on the cross is what has the power to save us. The baptisms for the dead are a way to access the power of the atonement.

You can state, intellectually that you forgive or repent but the law of sin and death will be right there with you making sure you don't do these things in your heart. It's only those that are in Christ, walking in the spirit that are lifted above the law of sin and death. And as a Christian, if you don't walk in that way, you can't forgive or repent no matter how much you tell yourself and others. Continues below.

What a distortion of the doctrine. If all have to be baptism then what about all those who died without the opportunity. To me it is a wonderful manifestation of God's love.
So who were God's chosen few from the time that the last Apostle was killed? If that was the case then why was there a reformation? The scriptures are not complete. Within the scriptures there are refences to other books which are not within the Bible.
How does "Mormonism" differ on the triune nature of God?
The idea that works are the basis of Mormonism is a distortion. Fundamentally my understanding is that the doctrine is the same as taught by Living Waters which is after repenting, accepting Christ as your Saviour then you will seek to be obedient to the commandments. But however hard you try you will never be perfect other than through the grace offered by God. The works required is to strive to be obedient to God's commandments. Those "Mormons" who claim that grace is earned should listen to and watch or read more church videos/talks.
The idea that any church is OK then what about Ephesians 4:4 and 5. Or is this interpreted that as long as your core beliefs are common then it is one faith?
What sect does Living Water's belong to? What makes them an authority on the interpretation of Scripture. Or is it also a cult?
It is these kind of distortions and attacks that made me realise that there was something to the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. Just as Jesus was attacked by the Jews in His day for doing His works by the power of Satan.

@@fayelewis5476 The quoted passages make sense within the context of the other doctrines of the church, but when quoted out of context they seem to be at variance with the scriptures. I certainly cannot accept that salvation is possible without works. Work involves doing something. To quote the online dictionary "activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result". One example would be baptism, which is essential for salvation, I think even Ray accepts that. One has to do something, have faith in Jesus Christ and that He is able to save you, repent and then go and get baptised. All involve metal or physical effort. WIth regard to the quotes above on there being no salvation outside of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or that there is no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith as a prophet, these are premised on the necessity to be baptising those with proper authority, rather than having someone wake up one morning and deciding that they have the authority to baptise. If you don't accept Joseph Smith as a prophet, as you clearly don't then you will not accept that the LDS Church is the only one who has been given the authority to baptise by God and therefore you won't be baptised and therefore you would not have conformed with one of the key requirements for salvation. To me it flows logically.
As for the scriptures quoted on there being no need for works, I can quote a few which indicates the requirement for works, very strongly. Such as James 1:22 to 27 and James 2 deals with the whole issue of works v faith. For example, James 2:14 "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have no works? can faith save him? Philip 2:12 can also apply. The ultimate authority is Jesus Christ, who said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments". Those commandments involve doing things or exerting mental effort to not do things. If you don't love Jesus then what is the point of being saved? You would certainly not want to be in heaven with Him.
The problem with quoting Romans and other of Pauls letters is that, according to my understanding, based on what I have read, they were written to address particular problems within the church. Early Jewish converts insisted on obedience to the law, such as circumcision. Paul's epistles were therefore intended to clarify that ultimately we are saved by Grace of Jesus Christ and his atonement, not by strict obedience to the law as the Jews believed.

    On baptism for the dead:
    1. The idea that baptism for the dead somehow earns the salvation for another is certainly not doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ. It is a total misinterpretation and misrepresentation. The Book of Mormon re-iterates the gospel truth that Christ is the way, the truth and the light and that only by and through Him that we can be saved. (Acts 4:12, 2 Nephi 25:20, Mosiah 3:17, Mosiah 5:8, Doctrine and Covenants 18:23).
    2. Baptism is essential for salvation and spirits cannot be baptised for obvious reasons. It is then up to that spirit to decide whether they accept the gospel and Christ and when they do that they can then accept the baptism that was done on their behalf.
    3. The interpretation of 1 Corinthians 5:29, while true to the wording, does not make sense in the context of the content of the rest of the chapter, which is an argument on the reality of the resurrection. It is like a Christian trying to convince someone that Christ was a God that came to Earth died and was resurrected based on ancient Egyptian or Greek deities that did the same. To me that would weaken the thrust of the argument. Because the automatic question would be what is the difference between these mythical gods and Jesus. It make far more sense to me that the reference to "they" is to other members of the ancient church on the basis that Paul did not perform these baptisms himself. On this matter, I find that a number of documentaries on archeological discoveries in the Holy Land try to take God and the Bible out of the equation and instead add their own interpretation of what happened which normally does not correspond with what the Bible says.
    4. I have personally been involved in these baptisms and they are very spiritual experiences where the spirit of some ancestors can be felt to be very close.
    5. Underlying the differences between traditional Christianity and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the idea amongst traditional Christians is that God has said all He has to say and nothing can be added. Had the Jews of Ancient Israel adopted this approach we would still have been living the law of Moses. I have had a Baptist trying to tell me that the fact that nothing can be added is borne out by the last chapter or so of Revelation which contains and injunction to that effect. However, the same injunction is contained in Deuteronomy. It makes sense to me that God would appoint someone in these days, as we approach the Second Coming to clarify His truth and eliminate the confusion that exists. This would include a way to discern between His true church and those built up for personal gain. But, as was the case during Christ's mortal ministry many don't believe or think that it is something from Satan.

Well, it does not, it has a very brief history of Jesus’ life and ministry and thereafter deals mainly with Jesus calling Paul’s to preach to the Gentiles. Christ’s only preached to the Jews and it was left to Paul and the apostles to carry the word to others. While there is no record of an endowment or temple ceremonies, that does not mean they did not take place. Today’s temple covenants are not shared, other than by apostate members because of the sacred nature of the covenants made. In any event, whether or not they existed in the early church is irrelevant in my opinion. There is also no record of a temple before Moses was instructed to build the temple in the wilderness and subsequently a permanent temple was built in Jerusalem. God can introduce new things to assist the members of His church to deal with prevailing world conditions.
There was no tithing because the early church had all things in common so everything was given to the church - see Acts 4:32 to Acts 5:10. On tithing see Malachi 3:8- 18, 2 Chronicals 31:5-12 amongst others. The fact that you don’t live by the law does not mean that it does not exist.
I am surprised by the harping on of the issue of grace versus works. As far as I can see the Methodist’s church’s doctrine on this is a good summary of the doctrine of the church on this matter - Google it. Yet there is no issue with their doctrine on the subject? To use Ray’s analogy, the idea that you can put on a parachute and rely wholly on the parachute without doing anything is ridiculous. If the plane is going down you still need to get out of your seat and get to an exit and you still need to jump and pull the parachute’s cord so that it will open. Despite what Ray says he clearly also believes in works since he has said that baptism is required. You have to do something to get baptised.
As for multiple wives, I can go through the old testament to find multiple examples of prophets who had multiple wives. As for the rest of what you say happened in the early church, I don’t think that there is sufficient record to know all that happened. The mere fact that the early church met in houses does not mean that that was the only place that meetings took place. Jesus taught in the country. The place of meeting is less important than what is taught.
The other matters raised are, in my opinion, based on an incomplete and inaccurate reading of the scriptures. On Lucifer, your view is formed because you do not believe that we existed prior to us coming to earth. That is not what the scriptures say see for example John 9:2 where a pre-mortal existence is clearly contemplated and Jesus did not correct the disciples on this doctrine. I can go on but I would need to write a book.

Later in the Movie you see how the which which is supposed to be satan has turned a lot of the inhabitants of Narnia into ice or stone and they need to be set free.
When you look at these creatures you can see that these are pagan deities from mythology but according to Lewis in his movie Aslan the lion who is meant to be God is the one who made them. Shouldn't we have a problem with idea that God is the creator a pagan deities.

the latest fashions, love of houses. How many profession Christians are going to take the word of God seriously and let go of the things that cause us to be lukewarm. Are we going to read Mark 8,34- and believe and obey it.In John Jesus told us that His sheep here His voice and obey Him. It also says that He will reveal himself to those who obey Him. So in doing this we will get to know God and later that same gospel of John says that knowing God is eternal life

    Meant, continues above.
If we had the power to really repent, Jesus would not have needed to have died on the cross. He would have lived a blameless life and we could have emulated it. But not the case, as it says in Romans 5:10, if while we were enemies of God Christ gave us right standing with God through his death, how much more so being in right standing shall we be SAVED by his life.
The cross paid for our sins but to be free from sin we need his life.

Interesting that they don't say this about Calvinists. Calvinism and Mormonism are false

    Woobieweibel,
Once your saved the holy spirit states to get you to ask questions and revels the answers to you in the form of revelation. As Jesus said to peter "this has only been revealed to you by God, and on this rock (revelation, because that's what he was just talking about) I will build my church. So you would be kicked out of the LDS church because of the questions you'd be asking and the revelation you'd be sharing. The bible also says to come out and have nothing to do with them.
