      Some do, some don’t. Most don’t care either way, and almost everyone in any category cares more about whether or not the story portraying them is any good. Unfortunately, somehow the execs and administrators in charge of a lot of these sorts of companies somehow got convinced that DEI was so important that it had become the only thing that matters, resulting in such a consistent drop in quality that it is to the point that even many of those who think it’s important to see gay characters in a wider range of properties end up skipping out on these works.

    It's easy to explain: prices went up (kids can't pay for it or get it as an impulse buy), the art went downhill, the writing went the same way and there is like a reboot every year or so.
    Why read stuff that costs more, has worse art, is badly written, gets tossed out in a year or two?

      Reboots is logical. It means the floppies reached an end, and were converted into a trade. It also allows people jumping on at the start.
      But in real life, it also means a point to leave. If you were not loving the comic, you can drop it and save money now. Re-reading a new origin story from the start again also has low appeal to those who have already read one. It will either be a repeat or a retcon, neither popular.

      I think it is just activism. They think there are thousands of straight old comics, so it is homosexuals turn to get comics made for them. Their goal is to have thousands of comics of gay content, so that everyone has an equal amount of comics to choose from. And to do that they just have to write gay comics for about 50 years.
      It is simple leftist thinking. There needs to be 50% straight and 50% gay content to be fair. But they forget that about 98% of the customers are straight and 2% are gay, meaning they want half the comics to cater to 2% of the customers. But as they dumbed the media I shifted to manga hard in late 2011 when I entered high school as it just connected with me more than shows then whatever mess they had besides Young Justice. There was just a lot more good action, romance, and slice-of-life stories across the world then in my own country.
    My nephew whose twelve atm pretty much made the shift earlier than me, when Teen Titans Go stopped connecting with him, now he's hard into anime just like me.
    The media needs to connect with viewers for it to be successful, and to do that, there needs to be good stories, and sadly there isn't a lot of that. Like in Japan the market decides what's popular and if it's not it gets cut, even if the story is good. While here venture capital props up whatever the little clicks in these companies like. Yup I went into a book shop a couple weeks ago when looking at houses with the misses they had normal book sections, comic section was half a shelf Manga was 5 and a half shelves plus several stands for collectors items like cups, tops, posters, figures and random objects. I asked the woman about it she tild me the young ones ds are goong mad for it and they have more book lists now than ever almost all of it is for Manga. Two of my nieces are also deep into Manga 15 and 13 years old.

    Kids and young adults like manga these days. They find manga characters and stories more interesting than the weird crap that Marvel and DC are releasing now. Also, I didn't think people in the comic industry would still use the pandemic of all things as an excuse. The pandemic's been over for 2 to 3 years now. Marvel and DC just can't accept that younger readers (and most other groups of people) don't like their stuff anymore

      Is there still remnants of good Western entertainment? yes but it's far and few when it should be all the time, stuff that unites people and not deliberately divide us

    Hahaha I have a MFA in comics from a fancy art school.... I don't regret it, because of how I grew as a person and an artist through that experience, but it definitely was not worth the money I'm paying back for it. The biggest problem was that when I went into it I had no idea what comics actually paid, and I was led to believe that one could make a living doing comics. Which, obviously some do, but with how the industry has tanked in the several years since I graduated, it's getting rarer and rarer. Surprise, I'm not actually working in comics, I got a corporate job doing production design and I'm doing fine (besides that voice in my head saying I wasted my degree by not making comics), but my classmates who ARE working in comics are really struggling to make ends meet with the volatility of the industry. Nowadays there are so many better and cheaper options at learning the craft and the business than going to college for art.

    I wish Hasbro would get their heads out of their asses and 1) fully embrace the Skybound/Image Energon Universe comics, 2) make a deal with Netflix and animate the comics stories, toned down for kids, and 3) make affordable, good quality toys for kids based off of the comics. My wife's grandson is three years old. Before you know it, he will be the target demographic age for someone walking down the boys toys aisle at Walmart et al. I mean Lego is the best but come on. The kid needs a little variety of toys that don't suck based on IP that hasn't been turned into the groomer industrial complex and he can buy a figure with a couple weeks' allowance.

    • @stephano1019
      @stephano1019 Před měsícem +2

      I say manga doing the "woke" stuff better is cause they do it through a more social and philosophical sense. Like they treat the readers like humans instead of animals. To get a reader to understand the story or characters you take a moment to break it down for them and be patient with them so they can learn it at their own pace. Some will get it quickly, some will be slow to understand it but all in all, one is to be patient with the reader and be in their shoes.

    • @linusgustafsson2629
      @linusgustafsson2629 Před měsícem

      I've read "woke" manga, and while it does it better, it still is bottom tier manga. You simply can't write compelling "woke" stories because "woke" is about being absurd and unreasonable.
      For example, the manga I did read, the focus was on a boy who decided he didn't want to be a boy or a girl, he wanted to be non-binary and dress in girl's clothes. And he kind of started to fall in love with another boy.
      To me, the reader, this was just nonsense. Being non-binary has nothing to do with wanting to wear women's clothes. It would be if they wanted to wear gender neutral clothes. If they had written him as trans, it would have made sense, but they picked non-binary. Same with his love interest, which implies he could be gay, or possibly trans. Non-binary could have been an option if he was bi-sexual.
      Then there is the fact that there has always been the concept of women with penises in manga, so if they wanted to write an actual non-binary character they could have used that as base to explain how someone with a body that is non-binary is living in society. But I don't think anyone ever thinks about physical bodies when they are "woke", they only think about identities and opinions about bodies. A real life minority representation is their goal, not an imaginary fictional minority representation.
